based on their story they didn't run. They talked about "ok we need to go" for 10 minutes then starting thinking about what things they need to bring for another 20 minutes while the fire marshall screamed at them on the phone.

As someone who lives in CA, and has lived through a few devastating wild fires-one that burned Yosemite, this pisses me off. People died in the Paradise fire, because they had no warning, and no way out. And yet, you have these incredibly selfish and self centered people that would have caused a disaster, and endangered their guests, themselves, and first responders who would of had to rescue them. And decided that they just couldn’t put it on hold-despite people’s homes and land burning around them. Unbelievable.

The friendly tip regarding fires: Flee when you smell it, don't wait around to see it. Don't rely on technology and cars and all that, evacuate in a matter so that you would still be safe in case of emergency when you have to walk or run - traffic jams happen, so do technical emergencies, ever had a car break down? You won't have time to fix it when the fires are literally engulfing you. I think people have gotten so comfortable nowadays that they forget that something as "simple" as a fire could kill them within minutes.

i've never been close enough to a wildfire for my life to be at risk, but i've seen countless videos of just how fast wildfires can travel- especially if they're hot enough to engulf trees. we had a massive wildfire in the mountains last year, but the flames thankfully stuck close to the ground and only singed the outer layers of healthy tree trunks. despite how low the flames were, it burned over 180,000 acres in just over a month. you will never see me playing chicken with a wildfire

I agree that these people are horrible for endangering others, but not many animals die in forrest fires. As long as they’re able to move, they run at the first smell of smoke, they know instinctively fire = bad. And predators don’t hunt during fires bc their fight or flight instinct shuts down their appetite bc their bodies can’t afford to waste energy on digestion while they’re in danger, so animals don’t even die from that in the event of a forest fire. Maybe a few dozen baby animals would die if the mother can’t transport them, but that’s it.

I am Australian and I remember the Aussie bushfires here very well in January 2020. We lost half a billion animals, 47,000,000 acres of land, 34 people. No one was having weddings. I was in a part of Australia not affected by the fires directly but the impact was severe. The nerve and selfishness of some people. Just postpone your wedding day.

100% Agreed. Those fires were devastating. My husband and I put our wedding on hold for a whole year because of everything that happened in 2020 and those fires were a huge reason. People are so selfish. My husband and I are Australian as well and we're from Queensland. We were supposed to have a beach wedding in February 2020 but we postponed it because of the Australian bushfires having just happened and it not feeling right with us. My neighbourhood was safe from the fires but other areas not far away had been engulfed. We decided to help volunteer where we could during that time with animals, food, water, supplies, etc and people understood. We decided to move our wedding out of 2020 with everything that happened with covid as well and our wedding took place on February 21st, 2021 a whole year after our original wedding date. We did get our beautiful beach wedding and celebrated with 30 people attending as close friends and family. My husband and I have been married nearly 6 months now and together 6.5 years but if need be we were willing to wait with our wedding. Last thing we ever want to do is risk other people's lives and well-being. My husband and I have even rescheduled our overseas honeymoon, to mid 2022 to New Zealand for a few weeks and then April 2023 we're going to Japan for a month. Instead Shortly after we got married we just did a trip to Cairns for a couple weeks and the Great Barrier Reef. Better safe than sorry.

When my apartment building fire alarm went off, my fiance and I passed off our cat to each other over the porch railing so she didn't have to pass right under the alarm itself (you know, the thing that could burst anyone's eardrum without protection). We left everything else. If you have a pet that you treat like family, I think it's the same as grabbing a kid. Instinct is to grab those you can't replace.

As someone who has lost their home to a wildfire, nothing I left in my house was worth my life. I was very lucky to have my valuables already in my car (my switch and laptop), and even though the flames were literally in our yard when my family left, everyone got out safely. But objects and things can be replaced. My other relatives had their own photo albums with our memories, a lot of people donated a lot of things to help us get back on our feet, and there were a lot of food giveaways for those affected by the Northern CA fire. And even though I wished I had a lot of things I used to have, none of it was worth any of our lives. It’s all replaceable

I'm the neighbor across the river to where this wedding was hosted. The fire is called the Klamath fire. I was at home with my mother paying close attention to it prepping the house by placing sprinklers on the roof and watering all near by areas. The fire was not supposed to go our direction but the fire itself changed the wind direction and charged right towards us. My mom and I left as soon as the fire got to our driveway because the power was shut off meaning no more water. Our deal was fight the fire until we had no water left. Yes this was reckless but when your home is under attack and you don't see fire trucks coming, you do what you do. The fire never crossed to their side of the river. This fire should have not gotten out of control as it did because there was a guy willing to make fire breaks with his tractor as soon as it started but he was threatened with arrest and jail time by forest services. The town of hornbrook lost too much in this fire and some still haven't built back. My family lost a shop full of machines and memories. Look up Klamathon fire video and you will find me driving a car through flames.

When we had Derecho come through (I luckily live in Illinois and was barely affected), I went and grabbed our three cats with my bf who happened to be over at the time (I had to stop him from leaving-as he started to leave the winds picked up really badly, then my little dog ran around the house five times until he went inside), after we got our cats we went down to the basement with my dad and brother (my brother carried his cat and I carried the other 2) and my dad had gotten the dogs downstairs while we were getting the cats (the cats hide so it took a little while to find the hiders and drag them out), and then I raced back up to get my moms flute (extremely important to her) and my flute (extremely important to me and worth more than anything I’ve owned), and my brother got his trombone (since it was also expensive). I think I packed some things that were invaluable to me while I was getting my flute (shell casing from grandpas funeral, and a couple others), and then we went downstairs until the wind died down. So this is probably what I’d do in any other disaster. I also have depression so I don’t value my life very much, which is why I would go back into a fire or whatever to rescue items that mean a lot to me or my family. If it happened again I would definitely go for my pets first, then my flute, and if I have any time then I’d get other invaluables.

I'm 37-Years-Old and my husband and I have been together 15 years and married nearly 10 years. Our 10-year wedding anniversary is coming up in November this year and we were actually planning on taking our 2 kids to the USA and go to Universal Studios and Disney World, California, Washington D.C, and then Canada for a couple weeks as part of a 6 week family vacation once school summer holidays started here in Australia, but we absolutely can't do that now so we've moved it all the way to end of 2024 so we have pushed it back 3 more years.
