Helping people. Yeah, it can change plans. A friend and I were kayaking a local river here in Ohio (Kokosing) and there is a turn in the river, where there was a sizeable log jam right after with a smallish chute to get through with a tight turn to avoid the logs. The river really rages around that bend, and a family in two rented canoes comes through. My friend and I had stopped on the opposing bank to watch people go through because, well, it was entertaining watching them panic. LOL. This family, the first boat capsized, then the second one does as well. they all got into the log jam, which if you know river boating, that's called a strainer, and can be deadly. So we sprung into action. My back was out from an injury the week prior, and I went in anyway. Got them all out, while the grandmother, who was in the canoe before them, screamed "My babies!!!" trudging up the bank towards us, then looking right at her son (the dad) and screams "You and your damn outdoors!!" we laughed pretty hard after they left over that. I even saved the dad's wallet, keys and phone in a sealed container that floated on down the river. I chased it in my kayak, and had to paddle back upstream. My back was then out for a further three weeks after, but we saved them all!

Agree. I look at it as buying any other insurance and hopefully never file a claim. In FL, so Hurricanes always a decent possibility and therefore always prepping. As for SHTF or runs on items like happened during the Coof. We've got enough for awhile, to get past the panic at least. We can have a cup of coffee how we like it in relative peace, then use our TP rather than fighting over the last roll at the store. Avoid that stress hopefully putting that energy to better use.

Your bugout bag info made sense to me, I had just put one together with the intent to carry it with me during winter travels. In the case that my vehicle somehow dies or goes off the road and I need to walk miles to a busy road or back home, I have built it around that - warm clothes, some water, a few granola bars for energy. Then if I have to stop overnight - a knife, axe and saw for processing wood for a fire as well as fire starting materials and a tarp to keep the elements off me. I kept it relatively simple and didn't overspend just like you suggested.
@connie7128
@connie7128 Год назад
I have something very similar in my vehicle. Much of what I put in mine were things I already had at home, and the rest were fairly inexpensive purchases. It's good to be prepared. Will keep the panic away and a clearer head when everything is already there.

I started to get my gear together for camping because I had to get a bug out bag setup for wildfires. Having to evacuate without a clear plan is frightening and frustrating BTDT. I realized I was on my way to having what I would need for camping. It’s minimal and things I will truly use. And it gives me the freedom now to take trips on my own. My first solo trip is next week!

Loved your advice on bug out bags. The simple reality is that 99% of the time you are better off staying put than going somewhere else unless it's something like a hurricane and you are in a location that floods. You have a great situation since you have your cabin on Lone Wolf Mt that you can go to if something bad happened to your house or neighborhood. That makes sense, a place you can go for recreation but also use in an emergency.

I couldn't agree more with the bug out/ be prepared situation. There are so many "infomercials", websites and such online that sell an insane, ridiculously expensive amount of goods,food,etc.,etc.. They use fear tactics to buy this, that or their products. Big money. Common sense should prevail. To quote RU-vid weather man Ryan Hall: "Don't be scared be prepared". Those folks caught you at a vulnerable moment, but they were probably just glad to find someone, and someone that looked trustworthy to help them. Thank you for helping them and getting them to safety. I've been broke down a few times with no one stopping to help, and in a questionable area, before everyone had cellphones. Enjoy your truthful no bull videos, gosh RU-vid needs more of that, need hip waders to scroll through the BS. sometimes. Stay safe and GOD bless

Prepping is less about buying and hoarding supplies and more about just being smart. Keep a blanket and extra clothes in your car in the winter in case your car dies and you’re stuck on the side of the road in the cold. Make sure you have another way to heat your house if the power goes out. Have a way to keep your phone charged. Get a generator to run your fridge so you don’t lose all your cold and frozen foods.

Real prepping is a mindset. Spend as much, or as little, but if you don't know, you're lost. I have a disability now and can't do what I used to, but one adapts cognizant of these changes. Rambling perhaps, but true preparedness is mental more than anything.

A good set of tire chains would benefit you. Especially on ice on the trail.

I'm only 25 minutes in as of this comment. I agree whole heartedly. Good neighbor policy is a good rule to live by, expecally out in nature. As to prepping I spend my money around my hobbies; whither camping, overlanding, trail riding by horse, motorcycle, or canoeing. Fortunately here in Arkansas most emergencies require hunkering down in place so mostly food and alternative heat is our bigger concerns.

I feel your "rain pain." Until last June, I lived on the Canadian west coast. I've since moved to the Canadian prairies and I definitely don't miss the endless rain.

As for prepping, I just have a backpack for each person and I have our camping gear we use, most of the gear is kept in a plastic tub. It's not a lot of stuff, just enough for shelter and food. It's enough to keep us comfortable, but not too much to carry if we have to.

About the car wreck, you got my utmost respect Luke, your a good man, you didn’t include them on your video, out of respect to them in the times where the individual (s) are at they’re worst position or situations, didn’t need to to be a part of your content for your video, some people like to take they’re cell phone cameras and pray for stuff like that to happen and post them on they’re vlogs or channel, the some few people will go out of they’re way and help out in any way they can, instead of videoing or taping the whole process or event, helping someone out makes a difference and it shows others that there are still good people out in this world.
