Q&A with Sir Martin Sorrell, Cambridge graduate, British businessman and the founder S4 Capital and WPP (the world's largest advertising and PR group, both by revenue and the number of staff).
🔹 About the speaker:
Sir Martin Sorrell is Founder and Executive Chairman of S4 Capital plc, a digital advertising and marketing services business for multinational influencer brands. He was CEO of WPP for 33 years, building it from a £1 million “shell” company in 1985 into the world’s largest advertising and marketing services company. Prior to that, Sir Martin was Group Financial Director of Saatchi & Saatchi plc and worked for James Gulliver, Mark McCormack and Glendinning Associates.
Sir Martin supports a number of leading business schools and universities, including his alma maters, Harvard Business School, where he received the Harvard Business School Alumni Achievement Award and Cambridge University, where he is an Honorary Fellow at Christ’s College. He was ranked as the second-best CEO in the world by the Harvard Business Review in 2017 and was nominated as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.
Sir Martin also supports a broad range of charities, including his family foundation.
Talk was chaired by Sheryl Cuisia, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at King’s College, Cambridge University.
🔹 About King’s Lab and what’s next:
The Lab is a project aimed at equipping students with entrepreneurial skills and support those wishing to explore a career path in innovation, entrepreneurship and business. The year-long extracurricular programme is aimed at students from various degree paths and any subject (from undergrads to postdocs). The programme includes an intensive week-long residential and regular lectures, visiting mentors, entrepreneur-at-residence and more.
Emphasis is put on developing sustainable and ethical projects with a positive social and environmental impact as well as expanding entrepreneurial skills to students outside of the business school. The project is led by two King’s Fellows - Kamiar Mohaddes and Thomas Roulet, alongside student associates (Michaela Kadlecova, Adam Motloch).
