Yes. They're quite different from each other - different personalities, songwriting styles, and goals. I think they were both head-strong and Neil had his own different musical life to live. Split Enz split :( ... and Crowded House was born :) .

Imagine being able to sit down at a piano and come up with this....the guy is a genius and this song is a masterpiece. What a bloody great band these guys are too. As an Aussie kid growing up in NZ, I am so glad to have been a teenager in the mid 80's listening to their music
The chorus of this song is one of the finest pieces of music I have ever heard. The way it climbs and then resolves at the end is pure genius. Makes me melt....
Thirty-one years ago, I won my girl with this song playing in my 1976 beater Honda Civic. I wager this song can still clinch the deal even today. Thank you Neil!

My older brother bought Split Enz records as a punk when I was a kid in London. Heard them from him. Now he’s gone, listening to them always reminds me of him. Such great music. The self-awareness and emotional profession (and confession) is stunning. Omg a young 20-something (was he 23?) coming to that realization and making that commitment? "It's no New Year's resolution... it's more than that"? Who else but Neil would be that unique and rare?
If they released this live version on the radio today, it could easily be a top 10 hit. The composition is amazing, the lyrics are pristine and Neil's vocals are fantastic. Of course Tim singing harmony with Neil is ALWAYS magic.
This song has me in floods of melancholy tears, and I really don’t know why… it would normally be because of a particular happy, or not, memory but maybe I’ve blocked something out and don’t realise what. It’s beautiful I guess that’s one thing ❤
Neil Finn will make you laugh and smile & think "what a charming guy" and then proceed to SHRED your heart & soul with his musical genius. the most extraordinary regular guy in music.
This music never ages. It's perfect. And I always associate New Zealand with it. And I believe the sea is in these songs. And for me, it stands for happiness. Even if it's only in my head, that's all I need!
I saw the Enz on this tour. One of the best concerts I’ve ever witnessed. The entire band is so talented. I don’t understand why they’re not on the road every year. You know you’re going to be entertained when these guys rock up.

My fave Enz song of all time. Was privileged to see this version in '06 at Adelaide Entertainment Centre. Brought a tear to my eye. And the song is finished unlike the original studio version

Just saw a rendition of this song on tv for Mushroom records 50th anniversary. I grew up with this song and never really listened to it. Wow, now in my older years I think its such a great song. One of the all time greats.

Oh wow, I was at this concert back in 06 at the tennis centre, this song was the absolute highlight, closely followed by “6 months in a leaky boat “ though it was all magical. Was just talking to my wife about this performance a couple of days ago and how beautiful it was. So stoked to actually find it on You tube! Still probably the best concert I’ve ever gone to see. Love the Enz!
Grew up with Split Enz in NZ...used to watch them all the time at the Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth. Best memories ever..saw them many times. Have always loved Split Enz, and used to buy all their albums back then.. :) Have a very big soft spot for Tim & Neil.
Nice one Tracey. I saw them first in the early 70's at the Buck a head concerts. Then bought all the Vinyl. And saw them live in Welly in 2004/05'ish as the Finn Brothers, just prior to this tour. Forever and ever they are my NZ

My greatest moment was meeting Neil Finn when I was 15 and inadvertently ended up at the Party Boys after party at Delmonicos in Auckland (Tim Shadbolt... enough said! 😂) Split Enz have always been my #1 fave band ever and this is without a doubt the most beautiful love song ever written. My heart melts... ❤️
