I'm 68. In high school, my friends were big Who fans. I wasn't a fan. I passed going to see them at the Pontiac Silverdome. It was just today I appreciated the genius of Pete Townsend.
"And if I swallow anything evil, put your finger down my throat" - my favorite Townshend lyrics, such dark yet empathetic feeling to it. Brilliant songwritter!
@@meneymueller6471 Doug Sandom is original the who drummer, he was the drummer since 1963 to 1965, Keith Moon was since 1965 to 1978, RIP, the Best rock bassit, the Best drummer, and RIP the Best ritmic base of the rock
@@markbunce3405Bonham was fantastic, but he just didn’t make you feel the way Moon did. Bonham made great music, Moon made you feel great. Just my two cents. They’re of course both two of the best and there is no such thing as the “best of all time.”
I was fortunate to see all four original band members in New York City, 11 March. 1976. And saw then again in 1979 when Kenny Jones played the drums. My favorite rock band!
When you listen to Keith Moon's drums in isolation, they sound all over the place (Townshend says he played a beat you could fall down a flight of stairs to), however, when you add The Ox's bass lines, you realise you're listening to one of the best rhythm sections in the history of Rock'n'Roll music 😎
quite simply thee best british band ever , they were all geniuses , keiths theatre , rogers voice , petes lyrics , thunder fingers on bass , what an outfit , snappy dressers too
My favourite group. Arguably the best rock band. That bit younger than Stones and Beatles, they hit their full stride as Beatles broke up. Certainly less prolific as they relied on Townshend almost entirely as writer. Certainly not as popular nor as good a pop group as Beatles. Stones were a different genre as they focused on mining American roots music. The Who were far more about urban British young frustrated males children of post WW2 PTSD UK. Raise you... The Kinks
May I encourage you? It's not gone - listen & see here - sound will get better - one of the best bands I discovered in the last 20 years - I saw them live - georgous and so much more to come: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isjGsh4AlpQ.html
Rubbafingaz1 I don’t think this is the best song ever written but I also don’t think it’s hey Jude either, but it’s definitely one of the Beatles songs
@@AnotherHoustonKid57 Saw then 73, 76 and early 1979 in Fort Worth. I was working at a record store (Sound Warehouse) at the time of the tragedy in Cinn. and we played Who songs all the next day and I'll bet you also saw the WKRP episode about the horrible night. You probably also saw when Daltrey visited a small town high school outside Cinn. where I believe three of the kids that died were from What a nice gesture from hi. He's a great guy. Please consider supporting Teen Cancer America that he founded. They have a cool bumper sticker "Who Cares" TCA.
Pamela Des Barres wrote on her autobiography that Keith never got over the death of his driver/bodyguard. Keith ran over him with a car when he was trying to save his wife and friends from the fury of angry skinheads. He blamed himself of his death. Keith had always been the unpredictable member of the band, but that incident really send him on the downward spiral.
Exceptionnel The WHO.. Keith Moon à lui seul est LE phénomène de la batterie. Je n'ai jamais vu un tel génie des drums jouer comme ça . Jamais. Le bonheur absolu à écouter ce groupe. Oh oui !.

No one knows what it's like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes And no one knows what it's like To be hated To be fated to telling only lies But my dreams they aren't as empty As my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That's never free No one knows what its like To feel these feelings Like I do And I blame you No one bites back as hard On their anger None of my pain and woe Can show through But my dreams they aren't as empty As my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That's never free No one knows what its like To be mistreated, to be defeated Behind blue eyes An no one know how to say That they're sorry and don't worry I'm not telling lies But my dreams they aren't as empty As my conscience seems to be I have hours, only lonely My love is vengeance That's never free No one knows what its like To be the bad man To be the sad man Behind blue eyes
May the risen Jesus raise him from the dead some day. He stood at the tomb of Lazarus and called out his name, and Lazarus came walking out of his grave. On the day of the resurrection, may the Lion of the tribe of Judah roar out your brother's name, and may he march out of his grave to meet him Amen and alleluia.
Roger always said this was his story ,and one of his favorite of petes songs ! its truly a classic and so many of us can relate too it ! including myself , with our vertion , it takes me back too those days , in acton west london , where both still have their family homes where they grew up ! and still keep in touch , with their mates from their youth !
A great band but after Keith Moon passed there was always something missing. When he comes in on this song you can see and feel the energy he brought to the band. After Enthwhistle died that was the end of The Who. It's just Roger and Pete playing Who songs. No disrespect to Kenney Jones, who is an outstanding drummer.
James Bowen yeah only the guy that wrote everything and played lead guitar and then the lead vocalist...lmao everyone always falls in love with the bassists and the drummers. I don’t get it.
@ Yakety Yak. Well, it's true that Pete wrote nearly all music. But they're a band& Keith Moon wasn't just another drummer and John Enthwistle wasn't just another bass player. They were exceptional. They really not the Who anymore. It's just Pete and Roger.
@@jackwilliam5341 It’s kind of difficult to explain. There are many incredible drummers out there, with far more technical ability than Moon, yet none could fill the gap he left. He wasn't just drumming-he was like a damaged nuclear reactor being run way beyond its safety level. Nobody could ever replace that level of energy, enthusiasm and danger.
My fav Who song and saw this on TV the other day included in the whole concert...remembering why I abs adore Roger Daltry..he's so hot here,😘 love that long crinkly blonde hair and of course those blue eyes 💙..a great frontman to an iconic band, oh and that voice, what a singer🎶🎵Kudos to Keith 💕🎶💕🌟and his intro. I have the original vinyl Who's Next and Who by Numbers my fav Who albums..those albums had the best most underrated Who songs and now thanks to top American crime dramas some tracks live again as if they were new songs at the time these shows were launched..but unfortunately John wasnt able to enjoy that new success with his sudden passing on the new tour launch, nor Keith RIP both of you 😢 this show was refreshing to watch on TV last week amongst all the rubbish politics and corona virus stuff plugging out the airwaves...I couldnt believe they put something decent on at a reasonable time...well done BBC.
Saw the Who for the first time in 2014 in Birmingham and this was the song I was waiting for. If the power had failed after that I would still have left a happy man. Absolutely brilliant band.
One of the things people don't realise about the who is that there will be that odd song that Roger fucking connects with, well there's countless who tunes you could say that with actually. But a stand out example is this. Roger perfectly interprets Petes tunes. Writing this I've even kinda along the way just realised how much roger gets into these tunes personally, The Song Is Over always gets me to that point im on the bridge of tears and many off Whos Next, but I've got back into quadrophenia recently, and the story being so relatable to me has yet again just swept me off my feet, best fucking concept album ever bar none could discuss it all day
Michael Murray saw them in may at Tinley park Illinois. Such an amazing experience. One of my favorite concerts I’ve been to. Ringo stars son does an amazing job on drums
This band was so, very good. I can remember the first time I saw them. It was on the TV perhaps in the 1960's. They did their song and then destroyed their equipment. Attitude!!!!The song may have been "I can see for miles"
It was most likely My Generation since that was the song that usually ended their sets as well as the drums and guitars. Look up My Generation Smothers Brothers. That may be the one. It destroyed Pete's Hearing.
I don't know what got up their bum (or nose, more likely) but these 77 Kilburn songs all burn really hot, and they're playing and sounding just great. This was all just in a sound studio, right? No audience to speak of. They're killing it and then so-long Keith and so-long the Who.
Certainly the best rock band for about ten years. Extremely good now in their 70s with Zak Starkey as drummer and able to replace prerecorded synthesiser with backing musicians
To man, now with no name! You did me wrong. I thought I understood you but I was wrong I could never understand stand your vengeance! Thanks The Who you have helped me ex spell the unwanted remnants of that experience.
Subacabra yes, it is. I hosted open mics for over 10 years and I’ve heard so many nobodies play the song much better. It blows my mind away that Limp Bizkit version ever got on the radio.
TheToneTosser I don’t regret it in the slightest. I heard some pretty crappy music but I also met some really great musicians and made a lot of lifelong friends.
I love the who because they provided 2 different experiences. The who never sounded the same live as they did on their records. However, they were decent live. So no one missed out on much. But that whole tommy album was studio magic !!!
Growing up in the South in the 1990s, you don't know your schizophrenic bf is the object of this song. I grew up in the in the shadow of Rob Zombie movies. And I love him for it. People abandoned us. In the South. Behind Blue Eyes.
Thanks for this man. Needed it & it was so wonderful to see the original members. Didn’t get much exposure to The Who until after Keith’s passing. Tragic. Thanks again.
