nZo (fka known as Enzo Amore) discusses the general feeling backstage when it came to wrestler payouts over PPV buys. Once you put everything on the network for a monthly cost of $9.99, how the company decide royalties like it normally did with traditional PPV buys? How would this affect normal WWE salaries?
Description:
Never before in WWE history has any act got so over in less than one year, as nZo and his tag team partner Big Cass. In one year they were breaking merchandise records and selling more shirts than John Cena!! They were also in some of the highest rated TV segments on RAW.

@Matt Miller It-s a very grey area. They get PPV bonuses but only for the night and after reaching a certain number of yearly presence I suppose. They don't get residuals from the Network. The reason why this is possible is the lack of taxation on streaming and lack of laws about the numbers they make. Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Showtime, ESPN + and soon Disney + do the same thing. They NDA the numbers and show it only to advertisers. It's not just a WWE thing. It's a bigger problem than just limited to them.

Prices for a WWE pay-per-view, according to one Quora blog answered by Md Rafiqul from a Bangladesh University, was $60 (SD) -$70 (HD). Then, in 2015, the PPV prices went way down, $9.99 per show, due to the 24/7 ESPN-ish "WWE Network." (the WWE's biggest show, of course, is WrestleMania; the WCW/NWA had Starrcade; TNA Impact had Bound For Glory; ECW had November to Rembember ?) I think that the only things that the upper management/higher ups care about within Titan Towers are the buyrates, how much merch(andise) can be sold (at the arenas), getting their money back from corporate Wall Street/Gordon Gecko stockbroker "bulls" and "bear" (pro wrestling fan) day traders; some stock brokers probably listen to that caffeinated, frenetic and energetic "Mad Money" guy, Jim Cramer. He has the same type of amped (up) personality as Paul E. Dangerously, Jim Cornette, Vince Russo and maybe Eric Bischoff, no doubt about it. But, I think that Vinnie Mac (Vince McMahon) is slowing down these days; taking it easy. (Then again, I could be wrong.)

Enzo gets it. Hulk Hogan could make an entire stadium pop just by cupping his hand to his ear. While some say that Savage vs. Steamboat was the best Wrestlemania match, but keep in mind that Hogan vs. André has all 93,173 people standing and making noise their entire match and the only “high spot” was a half-assed body slam at the end. At the end of the day, workrate may get you noticed, but storytelling will get you remembered.

@Just Me It proves his point, who are the ones wrestling? Indy wrestlers or WWE superstars? WWE barely has 3, Cena Reigns Orton and DB. Cena's in hollywood now. Reigns is still a quesiton mark because he had cancer recently so who knows in a few months if he's still universally cheered. Orton is just whatever at this point. DB is still hot but mostly because he wanted to change his character. He gets more reaction nowadays to his promos than his matches and that says a lot on his promo skills. Nearly anyone can wrestle a great match, but if you're boring no cares once its over.

There was a story like this about scott hall. A cruiserweight came to the back after a doing a match with tons of flips dives and the works and Scott said something to him to the effect of "that was impressive, now watch me get a bigger pop with an abdominal stretch" and he did. I wish I had the link to who said it, maybe kevin nash or chris Jericho on a podcast but the point was 100% correct.
@kshinokevin
@kshinokevin 5 лет назад
I have always enjoyed watching Hall wrestle, the first time it was when he played the "Scarface"-type of character in the WWE, "Razor Ramon," and then when he went by his real name, in WCW as part of the famous "nWo" group - the glory/golden years of wrestling in my book - the Monday Night Wars, Attitude Era and ECW (the original one mainly based in south Philly at a bingo hall, not the WWECW one). the only good things that I watched WWECW were the ECW Originals (like RVD, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer & Little Guido), John Morrison (in MNM with Joey Mercury and Melina), Elijah Burke (D'Angelo Dinero), Kurt Angle and CM Punk - but that''s about it.

Because that way I could've gotten more into detail as to why this opinion of yours is objectively wrong Oh and even though he never mentioned Miz he can easily be added to the list as he's way more over and more important to the company than his wrestling skills should've allowed (and I can't even think of a high flyer who's currently more over than him)...by denouncing Miz you pretty much outed yourself as a smark

He is 100% right about the flips and dives these days. That doesn't make you a good wrestler. Being able to work the crowd and get people get outta their seats is what makes people interested which is exactly why Hogan, Austin, Rock and Goldberg were so huge and why guys like Aliester Black, Richochet, Finn Balor and others will never be top guys. Wrestling isnt about kicks and flips it's about being a draw and making yourself stand out

@@ecymbura31 The fact that it's rare is what makes it special. And if you're gonna boil it down to a "Fancy entrance", we can do that with anything. Goldberg's jackhammer was just a fancy suplex. Rock's eyebrow was just a fancy facial expression. You can dismiss anything and make it sound dumb. The fact is Finn Balor isn't just some guy who just puts on tights and does flips. He has some character. He puts on a show. He's got an amazing thing he does for big PPV's that makes it a special occasion. That's hardly the same as some undercard guy like Evan Bourne whose whole thing was just being a generic good wrestler who's really good at the shooting star press

@@pearcemark2 comparing Goldberg to Finn Balor is like night and day. Goldberg was insanely over and one spear got the entire crowd out of their seats Balor can't touch Goldbergs crowd participation. I agree that it's not the movesets, but the characters or the storytelling that is lacking. But that being said, there are exceptions that managed to get to the top with just ring work (in-ring storytelling). AJ styles sets himself apart from those guys because his ring psychology is on a different level. The way AJ sets up moves, the way he sells moves, and the way he builds up to the high spots, that's storytelling. It's not wonder that AJ got to the top even with a pretty vanilla gimmick.

Wrestlers today are a hell of alot more athletic than they were back in the day but back then they were able to tell a story and get the crowd going. Wild characters with everyone having their own personality. I'm behind the wrestlers now but it has turned into "oh another indie wrestler".

The Gotch vs Enzo debate reminds me a lot of guys cracking on Ultumate Warrior because he focussed on his gimmick rather than on becoming a great worker. Fact is he stil made more money in his main 87-92 run and then in WCW 98 than most guys made in a 30 year career. Basically, don't be a mark - sell your brand in the most efficient way you can without wrecking your body.

i really feel as if wwe backed themselves into a corner with the wwe network by putting their “ppv’s” on it, ufc has fight pass but still treats pov’s as ppv’s, the wwe network has to be revamped needs to go 4k, has to have more user generated content almost like a creator kit, needs to bring and release all their documentaries on the network, it needs to have a community, needs to have raw and smackdown, the apps needs a better ui, it needs to host ppv’s at full price and actually revolve the entire production around the upcoming ppv.

Undertaker said this same thing a while back and people got mad at him for being an old timer... I love Rey Mysterio as a kid. Reason why is cause even with the acrobatics, he told the story of a guy who was smaller saying these guys are bigger than me but you know what I have that you cannot buy? Heart. That’s the story. Ricochet is dope but he’s been flipping around for a long time. You see those indie matches vs NXT and his storytelling is so much better... velveteen Dream.. not flippy at all but you know what he has? Psychology. Enzo is brilliant. I might hunt this full shoot down and watch.

I'm not a fan, but Enzo is bang on the money here. People want charismatic, larger than life personalities telling a story. Good workers, but don't really excite you in any way.
