On this episode, Seth is joined in the studio by Marketing Director, Neil Davies and former Hornady Senior Ballistic Scientist, Dave Emary. The guys discuss what initially attracted Dave to shooting, his career in physics, and how that lead to his passion for ballistics. The conversation then shifts to Dave’s tenure at Hornady and all of the monumental projects he was involved in. Dave has spent his entire adult life studying ballistics and projectile design. We hope you enjoy the conversation with this ballistic legend.

Y'all can bring Dave Emary back anytime so he can tell all his dad's WWII stories! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would listen to a 4 hour podcast of those kinda WWII stories!

This has been the best podcast yet. It really shows how influential Dave was in a great turning point for the company, and to come from such a humbled person. You can tell he really enjoyed his time there. I could watch a whole months were of podcasts with this man, thank you.

I was one of those groups that Dave mentions at the end of the video. Done 2 courses with Dave at EMRTC, learned a ton from him each time, and more from this video. Good to hear those stories Dave!

Great to see Dave on here again and I hope he enjoy’s his long deserved retirement where he can play with what ever he wants. I shot the first “”vintage sniper” match out at Ben Avery in next in the lane to R. Lee “Gunny” Emery and I thought it was Dave, but my mTBI memory isn’t nearly as good as Dave’s memory. Either way R. Lee and his partner (Dave or not) had me laughing so hard as they bickered about wind calls and adjustments that I had a hard time keeping my rifle on target I was laughing so hard. And it was always great to hear advice from Dave and the others that used to come down to Ben Avery in Phoenix for those CMP and Creedmoor Western games I learned a lot from the little bit of info they gave us. Thanks for it!

Where would we be if Dave's dad hadn't survived the war?? It's all about fate. Great podcast as usual and Dave is too modest. We need some Jayden and Dave series of podcasts ASAP. Can't wait for the next episode.

If you have a passion for the shooting arts you must take the time to watch these podcasts! I'm sure you will have many credit hours towards a degree in ballistics! I started varminting in 96 with a 24" bull DPMS barrel AR, shooting V-MAX bullets with 1/2 groups. My Budy and I developed our loads at the M&M auto gun range in Steamboat Springs CO. We then proceeded to take our very impressive groups to the prairie poodle populations near Bags Wyoming and boy howdy did we! As I grow older my passion for accuracy and the shooting sports only grows stronger while most other hobbies have faded. Keep up the good work Hornady! Keep preaching the good , acceptable and perfect desire we share of the wonders Yahweh has given us to learn! Creation itself testifies of God that no man is without excuse!

Another real good video. In order for a technical manufacturing company to thrive it must have all the things associated with great head quarters management and a great technical and manufacturing team. Hornady appears to have had and continues to have both.

Great podcast! Wouldn't it be nice if SAAMI adopted .0005" freebore as the industry standard? IMO that would bring a lot more versatility, i.e., precision, to a lot of existing cartridges. Good job!

Awesome interview! The one cartridge and bullet weight for me would be 17 HMR with the 17 gr V-MAX bullet. Yes, a little different than the norm, but my pick none the less.

Dave Emary is the GOAT and has handed it off to a couple of little goats! Ha. Seriously the way Dave developed the HMR and got Steve Hornady on board blazed a great path for Hornady and as far as I'm concerned has forced others to follow suit in cartridge development. Think about the new Weatherby, Nosler and Sig offerings. All those started because Dave got Steve on board on a pet project!

My Dad worked at the Pentagon for 40 years. It’s true, the Sergeant Major is the doorman and the Colonel is the secretary at the Pentagon (or Naval equivalent). 😊 And on an edited note, the real Pentagon decision making is done over in Crystal City.

Dave, could you have Hornady do some pressure testing with LeverEvolution and medium and heavy weight 5.56mm Service Rifle loads? I know there are people using it very successfully in competition and the Hornady App & Book do not have any information load data for it. I'm interested in using it with 88s and 90gr A-Tips. LeverEvolution is reasonably priced and has good availability.
