My first RU-vid video! Finally getting around to sharing my pickups from the 2024 National Sports Cards Convention in Cleveland, OH a couple of weeks ago. I got sick afterwards, hence the delay. But I picked up one of my biggest cards EVER which is a huge milestone for my collection. I had a blast at the show with my old pal ‪@mookiechillson‬ and Graig and Coach Miller from ‪@MidLifeCards‬. I met a lot of very cool people -- too many to mention in the video, so here's a list of channels I'm a fan of. More cards from my collection will be unveiled in future videos so make sure to subscribe!

Aren't they? I had a blast hanging out with them, and so happy I hooked his dad up with one of his grail cards. Ash is one of the first sellers I ever bought from when returning to the hobby. Believe it or not it was a modern Ichiro rookie. But he's always been super super helpful whenever I've been looking for something. Thanks for the comment!

That was a very memorable part of my trip to the National, and it's a great feeling when I card I love moves on to someone I know will truly appreciate it. I'm always on the quest to find cards that have the eye appeal of a much higher grade and I think that card qualifies. Hope you like the content -- great meeting you and will hopefully see you at another show!

Do you play too? If so, what kind of guitars do you have? It's funny I started both hobbies around the same time, and I actually think they're incredibly similar in some ways... at least the buying and selling of them is almost identical. Think people would hate it if I posted about my other-other hobby, fishing, once in a while too? I'm going on a trip tomorrow and depending on how I do I might have to post some clips haha. Either way, thanks for the comment I appreciate it! I hope you like future content.

Thanks I really appreciate. Yeah, I definitely scored big at the National. I was just looking at those Seavers again, and they really do look great side by side. The Mays Stand Up is a big one since I've been looking for one for a while now. Now I just have to get an Aaron, Mantle, and Clemente (among others) but finding them well centered is harder than I expected. Thanks for the comment!

Great meeting you Joe. I only wish I had more time to talk to everyone. I still feel kinda crazy starting my own channel but people in the community I met at the National were so encouraging and supportive I couldn't let them down! Thanks and I totally agree -- personally I find that to be the MOST exciting thing about buying cards these days is finding copies that have eye appeal way above their grade... those top 1% for the grade kind of cards. Even better when you get a good deal on one. Looking forward to talking more.

Yeah I love this Stand Up card... I've been looking for the right Seaver for a long time, but I see a lot of those. Even the Ruth I see around a lot, but you don't see many mid-grade examples of these pop up that are centered this well. I'm also looking for the Aaron, Clemente, and Mantle Stand Ups actually. Welcome. My uncle told me he had invented a guitar with another big guy, someone like Les Paul. He said it was rare and back in the 80’s was selling for 10k. He said Neil young was playing it on one of his album covers. I regret not securing the details of it when I had the chance. He and my other Uncle moved to NY City to be musicians when they were young. Not sure if you might have any idea the guitar. His name was Fred Napoli.
@50-Fifty-Vintage
@50-Fifty-Vintage Месяц назад
@@MrJmangini I wish I knew the guitar you’re talking about - I even did some Google searching about it but no dice. If he invented a guitar with Les Paul that would be pretty incredible though - you gotta find more details!
@MrJmangini
@MrJmangini Месяц назад
I’m not sure it was Les Paul but it was a big name I recognized at the time. Unfortunately I wasn’t inquisitive enough at the time. I think he told me about it when I was in the 9th or 10th grade. He was very old at that time. We had just moved him back home from Queens and he gave me some lessons. He was a guitar teacher. He was really old and could barely walk but man he was fast on that guitar. Played me some stones.
@MrJmangini
@MrJmangini Месяц назад
One thing I do know is it was an acoustic guitar that resembled an oversized electric guitar.
@50-Fifty-Vintage
@50-Fifty-Vintage Месяц назад
@@MrJmangini That's awesome! My newest guitar is the telecaster you see bottom left in the video and I got that specifically because I wanted a guitar for Stones songs haha. Been listening to a lot of Exile on Main St. lately. I'm really curious about this guitar... the clue about it being an acoustic resembling an electric is really helpful - I'm going to do more digging because I'm really curious now. I've definitely seen similar to what you're talking about. Thanks for the comments - I love to talk guitar just as much (if not more) than cards.

Congratulations on the fantastic pickups. Welcome to the RU-vid community. You've got a great sense of eye appeal with the Mays and the Ruth. I love picking up low grades where the entire problem is on the back. I also bought a lot from Champions. I also started after last year's national seeing what a great bunch of people this is.
@50-Fifty-Vintage
@50-Fifty-Vintage 22 дня назад
Thanks very much! I've bought from Champion before too -- I really like the guy I deal with but I always forget his name (short guy, brown hair, he's just a straight shooter). There is nothing that gets me more psyched than when I feel like I've found a card that presents way higher than its grade. And then to find a perfectly centered one is even rarer, so you know you've scored a one-of-a-kind card. That's how it feels to me at least... I so rarely get great deals on cards, that's where I find the excitement -- finding that top 1% card. Thanks again for the comment!

Love the 64 Stand-Up Mays. I've been looking for the Brooks Robinson from that set for a long time but can never seem to find it. Congrats on the Seaver rookie too, I have a slight preference personally to the second year card because of the trophy and that he is solo on the card. Sorry I'm late answering this but thanks for the compliments, I'm super flattered - I think your videos are awesome. It was great meeting you as well - what a killer show that was. I looked at every 64 stand up I could find there, but other than a couple of overpriced very high grade examples, I think you're right -- the Mays I picked up was the best of the bunch. I'm actually glad these shows are so far apart because my bank account needs some serious time to recover! We'll have to see if "Fiddy" catches on - you might have to spearhead that trend lol. Looking forward to getting to know everyone - thanks again I appreciate the comment!

Subbed you. Pete! Glad to know that I and others poked you in the forehead enough times that you decided to start your channel. What an awesome display of guitars you have on your wall. It looks fabulous. I remember looking at your Ruth wondering why it was only a 2. I still don't get that. Welcome to the chaos!

Haha pokes in the forehead usually work eventually! I have all of this stuff on my walls so it's pretty fun to share it with people who actually appreciate it. It's actually crazy how similar guitar buying and collecting is to buying and collecting baseball cards. I'm always hunting for unicorns, doing a ton of pricing research, talking to other players, negotiating purchases, always needing to have a pulse on values... same idea. Love the comments - and thanks for the nudge!

Great cards! Look forward to more videos. You need to play a little guitar on a video.

Thanks I'm super psyched about these pickups. The Ruth still stops me in my tracks when I walk by it -- I still kinda can't believe I own one. And yeah I realize I think I've put myself on the hook for some guitar vids down the road. I'm gonna focus more on cards, but I'm definitely doing a little of both. Stay tuned!

I sure as hell did! It was my first National so I figured I should go with a healthy budget, but I went a bit nuts. I probably wouldn't have splurged on the Ruth on Friday if I hadn't sold my 53 Mantle to Coach Miller the night before. That put a nice chunk of change back in my pocket, so it felt like my bank account was taking less of a hit when I bought it. These are the things that go through my head to justify myself lol. I have some nice stuff I'm looking forward to showing. Thanks for the comment - I appreciate it!
