Our labor of love for the past 7 years is for SALE! It is Bittersweet. Check out the details here on our Blog:
sundownersailsagain.com/sundow...
We experience lightning storms and torrential rain during the rainy season out in the Holandes Cayos (aka The Swimming Pool) where our water tanks stay full but our dinghy almost sinks from the downpour!
Tate takes you spearfishing with him to his old favorite spots where he encounters a Pair of Black Tip sharks, one acting quite territorial. Despite this he brings home not one but TWO delicious Dog Snappers to his lovely wife.
I bake some Sesame and Coconut oil Oatmeal cookies and enjoy them later with a big glass of cold milk.
Lots of snorkeling right from the boat here makes it easy to pass the afternoon away and we buy a MOLA off of the local Kuna Indians, our second.
Footage from November and December 2016
San Blas islands, Panama

Oh man i hate roof leaks, they are the bane of my existence and they give my motorhome cancer. I love lightning too those were some great shots, i would have been up all night watching that :)

+Class A Living Yeah it would have been great if I wasn't just staying up because my bed was wet! Happily we had a streak of good weather and sealed up the hatch. I have to say 3m 4000 and 4200 have been a real let down for us. This caulk was less than 3 years old before it dried out and broke up.

Haven't tried it but just saw a clip about Rescue Bond XL1 they said it was great and after opening will last a long time in the tube. Going to try it soon.

Hey Tate, I found some stuff that works really well. It fixed our camper roof and seams on our Hatteras. Its called NP-1, made by BASF. Its dirt cheap too. Its a commercial grade polyurethane sealant. There's not that many places that sell it. Mostly construction wholesale places. Not Home Depot or Lowes either. Just to think its not in a marine or RV category. This is the only thing I will use from now on.

There's always room to fall off the health wagon from time to time. First Mate has us on this 30 day cleanse. We can only eat organic, non GMO, and unprocessed foods. No dairy, no sugar, no alcohol (ugh!). So far I've dropped around eight pounds and feel a lot better.

+Sail Before Sunset Wow that's amazing, good for you guys! Also if you want try fasting a day by only eating 500 calories of protein and veggies and drinking lots of water. I do this on occasion and also have days where I will eat low carb.

There is so much awesome in this video! First with the swim cap (ok I'm getting one) , then with Tate telling the story of how spearfishing changed his life, and the reef sharks. the vegetable boat, it's all fabulous! Good to see your smiling faces.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
Hi Melissa! You guys must be Just about ready to set sail yourself yes?!?! Thanks for the nice comment:) I wear the swim cap on ocassional though lately I just make a hair wrap from a UV neck guard I have. It's nice so that my hair doesn't get all tangled in the mask and stuff. Spearfishing has been a positive addition here aboard Sundowner, in fact just today Tate brough home Trigger fish, Barracuda, and a Bar Jack (which I ate raw as shashimi). Though he gave half the fish to a neighboring friend boat. Can't wait for you to experience this! This year we have met about 7 boats that did the trek from the PNW down the West coast...down down...and through the Canal. Oh how they raved on the niceness of the Caribbean Sea.

The boat closest to my heart is a Westsail 32. I have had several others including a Youngsun 35 and an Irwin 43 but the Westsail 32 has crossed a lot of water. Your videos get better and better and I can appreciate the dedication and stress it takes to do these videos. Thanks you so much and I have become a Paetron just because of your dedication to letting us know how it is really is out there. Be encouraged and follow the wind. s/v Inspiration.

Great Video! I remember box milk from when I lived in Brazil. I would put milk in the refrigerator to make it cold. I would repeatedly be told that I did not have to put the milk in the refrigerator until I shared brownies and cold milk and they then understood!!!

Great video as usual. Naming the fish is cool and makes me drool to be down there with yall. I just got back from Baton Rouge helping family rebuild. I found some great tasting coffee. Its Rouses coffee purchased at Rouses Supermarket in Denham Springs. Taste great and lots less expensive than community. Its made locally in Thibodaux, La. I wish I could send yall some. Running low on coffee could present a huge problem. One must set some priorities. Ha
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+pate allan Hi there Pate. Was it a rebuild for a flood? Rouses is amazing isn't it? How does it compare to community? I think our good friend Michele is coming from NOLA to visit us in a few weeks and you better believe Community is on the list! But...we do still have 6 pounds on board. We keep alot of coffee :)
@pateallan7764
@pateallan7764 7 лет назад
Yes, our family lives in Central, near Baton Rouge and Denham Springs. Several family members got 3-5ft of water inside their homes. They lost everything. Their homes were not anywhere near a flood zone either. Everyone had to totally gut the house and start over. The flood was much worse than I imagined and the news media covered. Community coffee uses Arabica beans and they used to use Colombian beans. I dont know where Rouses gets their beans, but they dark roast them. Its actually darker than the red bag original Community. I do think its a little better and lots cheaper. Yall should try a couple bags.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+pate allan THANKS! Ill get my friend to gran some maybe. Sooo sorry to hear about your family. Denham got hit REALLY hard. Tate lived there for high school and also bought his first house there. We were so lucky, none of our families houses got flooded but we do have a few friends who lost their homes. I feel really bad for those who did and the lack of coverage is pretty funny isn't it? Its hard for me to take any media stations seriously these days...the news always seems biased and filtered for the agenda of the station. Not ALL of it. But a lot. I hope the rebuild goes ok and it never happens again.

Makes want to be out over the coral again. Maybe I could get back in shape chasing fish. Hopefully that area isn't getting way over fished. It definitely is getting overly photographed. Thanks. I love all the underwater stuff. Way easier now than when I used a Nikonos film camera and a Sony in a housing with lots of batteries to charge. Low res too.

We enjoy diving so much and spend many days waiting on good weather for those great dives. When I was 11 I went down to St. Croix and scuba dived for a week (twice a day with two night dives) with my Dad and my Sister. We went down to about 115'...It captivated my young mind. Both of us have always loved the water and it's been a really fun activity that Tate and I share. I look for fish and do video/photography and Tate hunts. We'll stay out for a few hours many days. I have Really been happy with my Canon g7x with underwater housing. It allows me to do much more underwater than the Gopro will let me, though the spearfishing footage is the Go Pro.

@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+David Benore Where did you sail her David? Glad you enjoyed it.
@goldwing987
@goldwing987 7 лет назад
It was the family boat. My dad bought it at the Norwalk Boat Show in 1976 (Connecticut) It was built by Wright Allied in Catskill NY. I believe the Seawind was the first fiberglass boat to circumnavigate but you better fact check. The salesman were Scott and Kitty Khuner. You might of heard of them. The sailed around the world on a Seawind named Babinka and then came home for a while, had kids and went around again on a Valiant 40 named Tamura. We had the boat but not the game. We just cruised the east coast, Block Island, Nantucket, Newport, the Vineyard, etc. As I grew up I got out of cruising and started racing on "go fast" boats but now that I'm older I'm dreaming of trade winds and palm trees again.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+David Benore I really enjoyed racing back in Louisiana but there is something about the lines of older cruising monohull that just makes me smile. We do know the Allied seawind. I really considered an allied mistress before we found sundowner. Hope you come back to cruising, no finer way to live, at least for us.

What spear gun and bands does Tate use? Do the bands seem to last a long time? We're heading down there next season and trying to be prepared. Great video by the way!
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+mike p Tate uses the Rob Allen 1100 Tuna gun. He also has a Beuchat Carbon Marlin roller gun, for much biggee fish). The bands do last a while if you store them out of the sun but he has spares for EVERYTHING on them. Shooting lines, bands, wishbone stuff etc. You can't get that stuff out here easily at all. For leaks I've had great luck with Bed-It-Butyl tape. Clean the sealing surface and remove all traces of silicone before applying. Has very good flexibility so seals the joint for a lifetime. Can get it at www.pbase.com/mainecruising/boat_projects. Don't think he can ship outside the US but maybe you can ship to a friend who can forward to you. Great video.

10.11 fast and slow bits here and then you seem to get excited about the molas at 13.16 you speed up then slow a bit speed up again, its your accent that is unique to you. I'm sure you would have problems with my australian accent also. But watching again I can see you do slow down most of the time, the cooking part was very good. I use Skim Milk Powder its easy to store, but does require getting used to, great for cooking.
