This is a milestone... the trailers are now structurally joined into one unit!!! I am starting to believe it's possible. This video is on the floor that joins the trailers and you'll want to see how they lower into place.
Jump to 4:14 to skip the background of why the floor was challenging.
The floor seemed like the easiest part of joining the trailers, but it easily took the most thinking. It was a real challenge to create a load bearing structure that can be easily be put in place, recesses under the walls, sealed up, and marries up to the main trailer to create a tight, seamless join.
I had so many people reach out with ideas for this floor, even ended up video chatting to a guy in Costa Rica who did a scaled model out of paper. I went through so many iterations so at the start of the video I do a very quick overview of some of the challenge I faced trying to make this floor.
Next steps we move onto putting down a floor and building wall frames. Coming into winter building and filming is getting harder but we are going to keep going.
Don't hate... educate!
Make cool stuff

I've been following your journey from your previous tiny build. PLEASE keep these coming! ⭐️

I'm late to watching this but I was thinking you might use extruded aluminum and bolting them so you wouldn't need to weld. I love this crazy design and makes me think of puzzle boxes. This wonderful and inspiring to my brain. Thank you for sharing your story of the build.

Given how I'd need to build it I don't know that extruded aluminium bolted together would have been plausible. Hard to get the strength I need and mainly the right design. I would consider just getting them made up next time. I may investigate one day. The best bit is I can always have them made up later and replace the ones I have made. Thank you Heidy. Really appreciate you following along.

Wow! That's about all I can bring myself to say, I'm totally blown away by your design, you're nothing less than an absolute genius!! I loved your micro house but honestly I can't wait to see the progress you make with this one and I'm already super excited to see the finished project!!

Haha thank you Chris, you are too kind my friend. I am so keen to see how close I can get to the vision in my mind. I really want to take this one next level. If nothing else it's proving to be such a fun build. Really appreciate you following along :)

This is really great to watch the ideas evolve. You must be the kind of guy who goes to watch the travelling carnivals set up! All of my best ideas are stolen from other industries. I wonder if you have weight concerns and what kind of wall panels you will use? I used to work on fully equipped trailers where every pound counted so we used lightweight plywood and structural composite sheet (plastic waffle board). Not cheap but good for no compromise customers.

Ha no, but that is a great source of research I should look into that. I am concerned about weight. Mainly because I want to keep to 3 metric ton and I have a lot of steel work in that join. Getting a little nervous. I'll be using either ply or a veneer product. Still to pick that but aiming to keep the lining light as it takes up a lot of weight. Trying to make the interior aesthetically pleasing as possible.

"Only medium-level cool", he says! 😅 and here I'm patting myself on the back when I successfully replace a rivet in my awning! 🙄🤪🤣🤣 Seriously, I am blown away with every video! No rush, I'll wait however long it takes because it is so cool to watch this evolve! 👍

😄 I can see me building another just to perfect the floor design. There is a better idea out there but the trailers would need to be built around it. Even had a local engineer rock up with ideas on how to make this one work 😆

Great work on figuring out the floor. I have to applaud your efforts. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 That and the Weatherproof Roof, have to be the most difficult parts of this build. 👍🏽. The sliding roof is what I am waiting on.

I had expected a slideout floor. Or a folddown, nested inside the walls. Did not expect your solution at all. For that matter, originally would have thought a whole slideout section. Congrats on your milestone. Good luck.

We do know you are so very busy but please take a look at our comments after # 3 of the build because tried watching #-4 and the problem cropped up and had to stop so please just consider the comment and try to understand why what you decide is just having understanding for others and their sensibilities and we're not alone were 8 million plus that don't use off-color language or visit it in anyway so please check out our comment and you decide weather we and possibly any of the eight million plus of our contemporaries will subscribe or not ‼❣ Thanks so much for your time, patience and for your explanations‼ We love your humor at the beginning of this video so don't hold back you have an awesome & and very punny sense of humor 😉‼❣Please have a beautiful rest of your day or whatever time you may look at this‼❣☺🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️{editing also explained in previous comment}

Yes like your floor solution especially using the actuator, are you using all lightweight metal studs to keep your weight down.
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 4 года назад
Thank you Chris. Nah I'll be using timber, there will be way too much custom work to tie it all in together to do steel. I'll need the flexibility of timber. Going to run 70mm studs though.

Does the linear actuator have to resist the pull of the springs? Or will there be some sort of locking pin?
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 4 года назад
Yep it's a 6000N actuator. I was originally testing with a 750 and it would just max out near the end. Also it's designed so the arm takes half the tension. The spring is pulling close to 45° so when the arm is straight half of that tension is pulled up through the arm to the trailer. Time will tell how it holds up but it has a pretty solid lead screw inside of it

Are you mocking up wooden templates to template these before building? Or modelling in 3D software?
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 4 года назад
Neither. I am just making it as I go from my head. I kind of have the concept in my mind and how it works, then I just focus on one problem at at time.

Nylon on the steel/steel interfaces to reduce sliding friction?
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 4 года назад
May put some nylon on there but I am not too worried. The floor will rarely come out as I don't intend to move it a lot. But some nylon would certainly make it slide easier. Was just thinking some nylon tape.

A simple construction grade silicone spray could also work great, 🙋🏻‍♂️ is a heavy equipment engineer who has been one for over 30 years and has more than that in experience time and they use it on the heavy equipment all the time so if they can use it on the heavy equipment I can't see where it would be a problem to use it on your floor or anything else that needs to be lubricated we even use it on our swing out in the backyard to keep it from squeaking where the metal hooks hit each other ‼
