Hi Doc! Really enjoy your videos for their content! I was a 23yr smoker...quit in '92. After that, replaced with lots of sugar and carbs...baked goods etc. I put on a lot of weight, became T2D, and at one point was told by my primary that I had a fatty liver. I started keto/carnivore March 2019, lost 40lbs and got my diabetes under control! I had a CAC done last February and got a score of ZERO: took myself off my diabetes meds and am awaiting results of lab tests done 2 days ago! I can't tell you how much I have taken away from your videos! You put it out there with no BS! Please continue what you are doing...I am a Patreon subscriber and really enjoy your videos! Thanks again!
GOOD one, Doc! I smoked from when I was about 12 until I was about 30. SO thankful I broke free! I've kicked alcohol, too, and now I'm on a journey to kick-the-carbs-to-the-curb FOREVER!
I looked up the article you mentioned, PMID: 25979079, and it is as scary as you suggested. In early 1961, my maternal grandfather had a CABG and was told by his surgeon that his routine bacon and eggs breakfast and cream in his coffee were directly responsible for the plaque. He, and I, then switched to cereal and blue milk and tossed out the salt shakers. Funny, his smoking was never mentioned. And I became a diabetic.
I smoked for 30+ years along with bad diet and paid the price 3 yrs ago when I was 98% blocked in my widow maker at age 51 😞 Been smoke free for 3 yrs and this year starting learning about Keto .. gone strict Ketovore / carnivore almost 3 months in .. best thing I did! Thank you for all you, Neisha Berry, Nurse Cindy and Dr Ken Berry do for me! 😁
I LOVE your calm, intelligent delivery!! I also love that you're speaking the truth to counteract all the media hype of products that are REALLY BAD for us!!!! Keep it up please-----what a delightful service. :-)
I promised myself and did a 30 day relaxed carnivore (used spices n limited cheese) making myself not cheat at all. Best thing I did! Afterwards added a few veggies limited or a little dairy - honestly don’t want it much and cravings are almost gone. I do drink tea now with a little art sweetener in my eating window and do a 16-18 hr fast n 2 meals. You can do it 😁
Vaping is it just as dangerous u r a gem to have in our lives I have never smoked but a carb addict thanks to u and keto I am changing my life .. U were born to teach.
Beautifully explained! I have changed my carb addiction but not my nicotine dependency. Dysfunctional emotional management, just as it is with carbohydrates, is what I take away from this video. Now maybe I can address the real issue and have optimal health. Thank you 🙏
Oh dear Doc. Very interesting today - thank you🙏 I was a smoker for 42 years(since high school), And now, I am a happy non-smoker since 4 years. I was also a carb addict (never obese) and as you say, I will always be but now, I am enjoying real food with high fat, no carb, no starch nor grains. More over I turned to be your #1 fan and carnivore friendly (also on Patrion). Hearing you today, made me wonder (actually scared), about the damage might been left in blood vessels.. Please tell us more about the life after; what/how can be done..if anything at all.
@@robertcywes2966 would you consider doing a show about the process of repairing the damage? I recently had my fasting blood work done and a cardiac ct scan done- If I wanted you to review the results how would I go about that? My Doctor reviewed it with me and suggested medications to reduce my cholesterol, I said I would like to do it without medications. Thank you for educating us and helping us to take our health and wellness into our own hands and to think.
Hi Rob, Michael here from Jo'burg, I found this video profound. Here's why, I have chronic fituallising Crohn's disease, am under the care of Peter Barrow at Wits Donald Gordon. Had been on Humera, then switched to Entiviyo, which blocks epithelial permiability, and bang a miricle happen. Having been nearly obese, in lockdown, when I found you, I started with mind exercise and started to lose weight, so having listened to you I started to cut back sugars, more weight loss. 17 kilos so far. Have just started to cut carbs, and more weight loss. Fasting sugars 4.7. Anyway trying to cut more carbs. Can you look at this issue of too many carbs in the colon, and how this can relate to Crohn's. All the best.
@@robertcywes2966 Ok thanks. "Often" is pretty vague though. I just have a hit or two from a bong once or twice a week. I also believe THC does have anti-inflammatory properties.
Will nicotine gum or patches have the same deleterious effects?? I’m using nicotine gum to help quit smoking and feel I may need them long term to be successful...
I posted a similar question. I have read that nicotine alone, ingested, is not harmful. I use it with caffeine pre-workout and for appetite suppression..... I hope he responds....
@@tawnipargman8237 He might not know, but you can always think for yourself: He is saying the nicotine in your bloodstream does this, so how it gets in there may be less important. However, since smoking and vaping goes straight to your blood through the lung walls, while digesting nicotine potentially has a longer route, that might spread your intake. I would also hazard to guess that patches or gum has a lot less nicotine in them? If so the question then becomes if lower concentration means less damage, which seems very likely. Unless the doc has done specific studies on this though, I doubt he can give you any guarantees or set a upper limit for how much gives no or negligible damage. This is just my thoughts, I might easily be wrong.
my answer: yes. it's probably better from a moral standpoint of not making others breath in second hand smoke, but from a physics standpoint, it's not very different whether you smoke or chew gum.
I quit smoking back in 85’ as a New Years resolution. Didn’t have nicotine gum or patch back then so my plan was to chew for a few months then switch to chewing gum. Giving up the chew was almost as hard as quitting smoking but I was determined to succeed. It took about a year for me to lose the desire to smoke or chew. You can do it too if you really put your mind to it.
22 year smoker. 13 years free! Two things I tell my wife. Wish I had never smoked and wished I had always eaten like I do now 90% carnivore 10% keto. Year ago I had a 383 CAC. Heart doc said it’s on the outside of the artery.. Not a worry. Guess we will see! Doc, you do so much for people.
Oh, Lucifer, Bringer of the Light, and once God’s mightiest and most beloved - fallen! Don’t lose site of that pesky observation between messages and messengers having “less than optimal” outcomes, Doc - just ask Satan. I mean Lucifer. Meanwhile, thank you for the welcome elucidation.....Bill
This is the first time on RU-vid, that I have seen, that described the endothelial cells and what they do when exposed to nicotine. I hope I'll find another talk of yours that details how those cells react to excessive sugar an carb consumption. Excellent talk; I am new on the journey to low or no carb/sugar, caused by my almost pre-diabetic blood sugar. Rising every year. AND MY OBVIOUS SUGAR ADDICTION. Which is my real problem. My adult son said, "Mom, since when did you become such a sugar hound?"
What damage has all the second hand smoke done that I had to inhale because of my Dad was a heavy smoker when I was growing up!? 😬 I remember when going on long drives how the smoke would billow to the back seats where us kids sat. Also, no seat belts those days - but by God’s grace, we are still here 😅
What about all the medical studies ( including Harvard) that tell us that nicotine alone isn't addictive and has a lot of health benefits? There is nicotine in vegetables, so do I need to stop eating tomatoes? Why do we have nicotine receptors in our body?
Your content is so on point. I appreciate your work so very much. You may already be aware, but the origins of the word "doctor" is teacher. You are a brilliant doctor/teacher.
My buddy says vaping is much healthier than cigarettes because of all the chemicals in tobacco. I told him to think about that for a second.........he stopped vaping.
Vaping is Definitely NOT worse than the chemical and tar filled cigarettes. I can breath when vaping and no high BP. Sorry, I recommend vaping to all smokers. It’s a life saver!!!!!!!!!
Sad carnivore vaper here. Mentally preparing to remove nicotine. Thanks for this, pushing me to quit vaping. I don't regret it though I needed it for the short term as I fat adapted.
Nicotine addiction through smoking is a myth. You are not addicted to nicotine. You really just can quit! Just trust me on this one or do the research yourself. I've been through this. See my earlier comment.
Thank you ❤. Your passion speaks to my heart and helps drive home how important what your saying is and how you just want people to listen and be healthy ❤❤. I used to be a smoker. Started at about age 16 in 1999 quit in January 2019 at age 35 when I had a spontaneous pneumothorax. Haven't looked back. My kids are teens and I would bang their heads together if they vaped. I can not express my gratitude enough for your help in quitting my carb addiction also. It's not perfect. But, im 90% better than I was 4 months ago. My blood work is improving. My non alcoholic fatty liver is improving, my diabetes is improving. You have been instrumental in my success ❤
Thank you for this. This is the last unhealthy crutch that I have, using vaping to quite smoking cigarettes. I've been on the ketogenic lifestyle for about 10 months now, which has helped me lose my last 30lbs and substantially improved my health and how i feel on a daily basis. I will now start weaning myself off of this toxic habit. Thank you so much for this information and helping me understand how nicotine affects us.
Do you have an opinion on peripheral plaque from a never smoker, untreated hashimotos hypothyroidism for years. Some concept of high tsh affecting lipids etc? Moderate to low carb, some animal products diet
Thank you for this brilliant presentation. Please address the effects of nicotine in gum or patch form, which I would assume are similar, except for striking the coronary arteries first. A very close relative is addicted to nicotine gum, and I am so worried.
As a former smoker then vaper I used vaping as a way of weaning myself off of nicotine as I could reduce the amount of nicotine in the flavoured juice. Off tobacco 6 years and vaping 5 years now. Question: Can you reverse the damage in the Aorta by quitting all.
Nicontine was always assoc w/cancer, never thought to study effect on vascular cell walls, what about caffeine? Also addictive, never associated with anything, was it ever tested for it's effect on vascular cell walls??????
Hi, Mr. Cywes. I have seen almost all you videos - thank you. It's very informative, and very content-dense, without usual b.s. seen elsewhere, where personal believes are mixed with shallow science and being sold as universal cure. There is one question though, I would like to ask you. Mr. Cywes, would you recommend keto diet and IF for very skinny, slender frame person? Someone very alike actor DJ Qualls, but with hypothyroidism instead of a cancer?
@@robertcywes2966 , thank you for answer. Noted, will be tested, and reported. I alredy tried keto + IF for two months. I was underweight to begin with (64 kg), and ended up being even more underweight, with 2 big keto meals a day, at 12.00 and 19.00 h. By the way, I am 40 years old now. What I call "underweight", is 57 kg for 173 cm tall male. I am from north-east Europe, Lithuania. Dishes with lots of potatoes and meat are main core of our diet. And we use lots of white flour for home -made hot souces, dips and pastrys. I am not a big fan of sweets, can use them in moderation though. I don't drink alkohol nor smoke, never did. But to live without potaoes and grains, it's a hell on earth to me. Yes, I like fatty steaks, eggs and cheese, but it's damn boring to eat this stuff all the time, without diversification, that's the problem for long term to me. Coffee helps. As bridge. But I drink whole cups, not just sipping like you, Doc. Veggies help a little, but not much, if to stay away from high fructose ones... To make long shot short, i am 57 kg now with age of 40. Same weight I had when I was 19. But now you can count my own ribs and 4-pack (not 6-pack yet :)). Its a bit scary to be honest, I am not sure, am I making myself favour with this diet or heading towards Olsen twins situation...
Is there a link to that 2015 study by Kelly Schweitzer ("Endothelial Disruptive Pro-Inflammatory Effects of Nicotine and E-cigarette Vapor Exposure") and her/his group, Doc? I don't see one in the show notes. I would love to give it a crack at reading your dissertation some day. Is there such a thing as purchasing a copy? I work on pianos and not humans, but I still love learning and I love a good challenge.
Thanks for telling it like it is! The problem I have is getting the massage over to a 13 year old who knows it all, and is surrounded by other kids boasting about how good vaping is! What I need is a very short simple, graphic, attention grabbing video, which gets a hard hitting message over in no more than three sentences. It also needs a title like - "Vaping is Fun" to get a 'teens' attention. I'm 75 years old with a technical background in health care, and I can follow your videos with interest. Unfortunately the audience you need to reach is 13 and is not interested.
Never smoked, 6.1 A1c, psoriatic arthritis, and LDL of 107, 55 and had a stroke last week. Doctor wants me on Lipidtor. I don't want to take it, but I'm nervous about it. What should I do?
Werkmsa have you thought about acupuncture and an assessment by a Chinese medicine practitioner? They are expensive because not funded by the pharma, but to me indispensible. Must be Chinese and have studied in China and the more years experience, the better. Also, food intolearance check because of you arthritic condition?
You may be gluten intolerant. Temporarily eliminate all wheat, barley, rye, oats for 30 days to see if your psoriatic arthritis improves or goes away. Fried food cause free radicals leading to increased inflammation. Cholesterol does not cause heart attacks and strokes. Inflammation does. Oxidized LDL only comes to respond to the inflammation to repair the damage. Otherwise you would bleed out if not patched up with LDL and cholesterol. Statins do more damage than it helps. Focus on lowering triglycerides and increasing HDL don't worry about LDL. You can do this by eating more saturated fat and reducing/eliminating refined carbs, veg oils. Nobody can force us to take Lipitor or any other statin drugs. Simply decline it. Even the doctors don't want to take their own drugs
Thank you Dr, Vaping is a nightmare. I smoked for 10 years and began vaping since 2010 and now I guarantee I take way more nicotine than when I smoked tobacco. I vape all day indoor or out because I feel that is doesn’t smell up like smoke. My question is in instances like people who live in the Mediterranean region and are shown to be healthier yet are heavy smokers.
My generation is so lucky to have all this information! Im 24 and ive already dealt with prediabetes, smoking, and wanting to be long term carnivore. Just gotta deal with the vaping and activity which are works in progress!
VERY good discussion! One of my five kids still smokes/vapes, but he can't let go. He needs different coping skills but is not actively working on that. I'm sharing this video with him.
Before I lost weight I stopped smoking and switched to vaping. You are supposed to taper off. I haven't I actually went up in nicotine. I asked for help, and they said they don't know how to help people get off vaping. There is not enough research on how to quit. I thought the patch may help. Cold turkey would be worse than smoking.
I recently had a discussion about vaping with someone who says that there has never been any studies that show that nicotine is bad for you. Can you share the studies that show this? This person is adamant that the studies don’t exist. They say that the studies are on cigarettes not nicotine itself. Thanks
robert cywes ... I was hoping you could guide me to the actual study. I would like to be able to show it to my “ doubting Thomas friend”. I, personally, have never smoked or vaped but I would like to point to a concrete study in order to see if this will sway my friend. Thanks!
Is nicotine entirely a villain? I’ve heard it can lessen the symptoms of Covid and assist with recovery afterward. The first medical info that popped up on google showed summaries results of research trials that showed neuro-protective effects in Alzheimers and a few other positive things, so it’s being studied as a potential pharmaceutical ingredient. I got interested when a friend suggested I check out the theories of a fellow named Dr. Brian Ardis. I was having trouble getting my strength back after the virus, so I tried the gum and a lozenge. Never before have I taken a drug or medication that gave me a “hit”-like a punch in the face. One piece of chewing gum. Tried lozenge that night-worst most disgusting nightmare in years! Tried gum next afternoon, much less of a hit. Third afternoon, struck by a headache (not generally prone to). I wondered if this was the “hook”-trying to get me to chew another piece of gum. Well, if it had asked nicely…but instead I decided this nicotine was too powerful to fool around with. My recovery was good after that, but I doubt it had anything to do with the nicotine!
Thank you 🙏! I think you are talking to people who have an income. Food like meat is almost impossible to get without money. Now with the lockdown here in France the homeless who get no benefits from the government or local social agencies cannot have the proper nutrition you propose on your videos. Your talk is very limited. In France we are only allowed to travel 1 kilometer from where we reside a 1 hour time limit to buy food or essentials. Those who do not abide are fined with no exceptions. This kind of stress kills ! If one is fined two times then the next time ( 3rd time) is prison! I am sure some homeless may die before the lockdown is over. Fasting is good but forced fasting is psychologically painful and lethal especially for those who have no comprehension or hope concerning this treatment provided his or her protecting government. Thank you again from my heart to yours Michael 🙏❤️🎶
I purposefully eat for less than $10 a day. Less than €10. In a country with a much better social network than we have poverty should not = starvation. In less economically advantaged countries, no doubt
You obviously don’t understand what I have written. Read again, please! I said homeless who do not get any benefits from government agencies that means 0 zero , nothing , nada. I live here and I see what really goes on . I have asked the Croix ❌ for meat but they give carbohydrate products and sugary drinks and foods! They think that this is what one needs to survive. Carnivore and keto are not intergrated into the nutritional philosophy of the Red Cross or the French government and any of the other social agencies offering their services to the homeless of this locked Down country. Thank you for replying and maybe we can email or I can call since it’s free for me as long as your number is a land line. Thank you 🙏 from my heart to yours Michael ❤️🎶
This was an excellent video even for those who do not use nicotine. The anatomy and physiology lesson in and of itself was worth it. Thanks so much for what you do!!
This is very misrepresentative of the medical literature on nicotine. I'm not advocating smoking or vaping, but this "doctor" quotes a single study and truly seems to have an axe to grind about people "abusing nicotine to regulate their emotional health". Nicotine's impact on endothelial cells has been studied fairly extensively, with very disparate results. Most studies show a dose-response curve with small amounts (microMole) being either innocuous or in same cases, actually beneficial to endothelial cell health. Traditional smoking only produces about a 1 microMole concentration in the blood stream; I doubt vaping would increase this by a factor of 1000, the amount necessary to reach 1 milliMole. However, even amounts from 1 mM (milliMole) to 2.5 mM have been found safe in multiple studies, and another study only detected damage to the endothelial cells at doses of 10 mM and above. On the other hand, nicotine is known to protect against pre-eclampsia by actually enhancing part of the endothelial cell backbone and new vascular growth in the developing embryo, and has definite neuroprotective effects against Parkinson's disease and some forms of dementia. It also prevents inflammation and bleeding of the gums in patients with acute bacterial gingivitis. This video is a largely science-free screed (one study from 2015 that is not presented in detail) against a substance that is still poorly understood. And the most ridiculous part is this "doctor's" rant about 19 year old Vietnam soldiers and coronary heart disease in post WW2 America. Has he examined the diets of these people? Of course not. Go look at the amount of candy bars and junk food, not to mention the bread, pastries, desserts, rice and pasta, eaten by the post-war generation and try to tease this out of the "doctor's" observational conclusions. Can't be done. Two thumbs down on this video.
Vaping is Definitely NOT worse than the chemical and tar filled cigarettes. I can breath when vaping and no high BP. Sorry, I recommend vaping to all smokers. It’s a life saver!!!!!!!!! Ty
Dr Since i started Keto my blood sugar is regulated without needing Metamorfin, does that mean that I didn't have type two diabetes (highest 12 reading was 220) average was 120 and i never hit over 220 ever I used to take 1600mg worth of Metamorfin daily now I'm at zero and my blood sugar is at 90 almost throughout the day.

Care to point out what the 'science perspective' is? I'd say having a directly appplicable PhD and using a first principles approach that incorporates anatomy and a sound understanding of clotting is pretty scientific in it's perspective... You know who probably said similar things to your, "I respect you but ..." comment? common people arguing against abolitionists because the prevailing 'science perspective' orthodoxy of the time was inherent biological inferiority.
