The boat build is in full swing....and I am still worried about sponsors though. I have sent one of my fans off to Dusseldorf Boat Show to create some opportunities, so let's see what happens.
The Odisea 48 from Odisea Catamarans has just started to get built in Vietnam. The design is complete, the paperwork has been done and now the factory has had 4 days to start the job and they are welding like madmen. Finally the wait is over, the Elcano World Challenge will begin in 2024 people.

Slot welds or plug welds..... pretty much the same thing. The shell plates can be welded to the keel plate through slots where you can't weld from the inside. Very strong.

People sometimes ask me how I built the aluminum hull. It's simple, here's the short version: -You buy 6 tons of aluminum -Chop it up into small pieces -Weld the pieces together to fit -Done :)

Best system I've seen they made a concrete mould in the ground welded big aluminium plates together put the angular hull shell in the concrete form filled the shell with water and set off a explosive charge = instant beautifully curved hull shell to be welded to the ribs & stringers!😮

I work as a metal fabricator, great content, great job, well done, your vessel is going to be on another level compared to most Catamarans, If a fiberglass production Cat started the race now, you shall have time to finish the build and overtake them for the win🤣

The first build of anything is the most difficult Once they figure out the correct steps for assembly, other sister ships will go fast. I'm looking forward to the skin getting welded to the frame. 👍👍

Love to see the process and work. Thank you so very much for documenting in such a fund and detail. Love to see the next episodes about the hull building and also the next steps. Maybe to make a video at some point about selection / thinking / rationel for the engines, electrical systems, power generation, etc etc etc......

Ahhhhh, the age old issue of engineers not taking the welding into consideration. Welders/platers need to be involved in fabrication design.

In regards to the bow section. If you go with the boxed section( outside weld boxinside weld to keel and inside plate) would you consider oil filled to prevent any corrosion from inside boxed space. We did it on stiffiners in bow section of a Superyacht.

The English wheel is a bloody hard task master - and these lads are taking to it like a duck to water. And aluminium plate is certainly not the friendliest material under the wheel either. Hats off to their determination. I would machine a fitting to the contour of the bow that would lap with the oncoming edge of the next alumn sheet panel. The weight is negligible, and with CNC, you can machine a stronger and easier to assemble bow

Hi Peter, myself, I would have thought option one would do, but option two seems more robust with regards to attaching to the keel. In the end I'm sure these guys will do what they need to do. Pretty cool build!

We used to get the whole wine glass hull cnc rolled in sections taper included only near the bow was joined in two halfs ..looking good👍those dog rolls are the best 🍔😋
