The K.O. II is sleek, immediate, and fun. It's been a while since I had this much fun messing around with a new machine.
Do you need it as your weapon of choice? Probably not.
Will it end up on the shelf when the honeymoon is over? Yeah, probably for most people.
But I think the experience was worth it and we'll have some more rendezvouesz. And the 80s table calculator look is too dope.

"Holding down FX btn and your group button will solo that group. If you first hold down FX btn and engage an effect then you can let go of the FX button. The fx will continue to be active as long as your holding whatever effect you picked. works with multiple fx. while your doing the above you can still switch between patterns or scenes. Great for transitions."

@@santiagomarcano6354 it’s true that the workflow of this isn’t making a beat by resampling like on the 404. But we all know that there are benefits such as cumulating Fx or other creative stuff. TE being aware of this, I still have hopes.

Gotta add to the list too - When you do the manual chop it should work like on the Maschine and MPCs (sp too I believe), hitting a pad you already hit before should skip back to that one. Now you have to do the whole thing over (and listen to the whole sample before) if you miss somethign

There’s a shorter way to turn on the velocity. Hit Shift+Erase and type in 301 and Enter. Also, you can change the Scene to switch with bar end, instead of right away. Shift + Erase and 411 and Enter. Section 14 in the manual is quite handy for those shortcuts. That outro beat is pure 🔥🔥🔥

Yeah that ‘KEYS’ button, could have been called ‘PAD.FUNC’ , and you tap it to cycle through its function , with screen txt feedback of selected mode e.g. Keys, Filter, Velocity , Trigger Quantize

You can use it a numbers of way in the studio beside just use it standalone so I really doubt it will ever collect dust. -Sampling on the fly wherever you are - Line In and Mic -Midi Controller -Midi station / Clock -outboard FX sampler -Live Performance controller -Time Stretching Sampler

Thank you! Yeah if I have to pick one feature request that would definitely be the one. I guess it would be tricky since samples don't belong to projects, but that would have to be up to the user to manage and put the samples on the same slots. Or an extra option to dump the whole memory. But it's a web app too :/

@@BlezzBeats Right, that makes sense. I think dumping the whole memory would be a great option since it’s only 64MB. Would also be great if they added support for USB storage and more projects. Say, plug a thumb drive into the USB port, and let you type to select a project number above 9 (up to maybe P99 or even P999). Maybe I’m just dreaming. 💭

Blezz buried in the System menu is where you will find the Scene launch option. The default is for the scene to switch instantly but you can change it so it switches to the next scene at the end its play through. Its def lacking some basic features like project management and export options. Would kill to have the sample chop > sample trim not be some sort of stuttery mess. Heres to hoping TE throws us a few bones in the next update. Its sick tho and i cant stop playing with it.

The reason a lot of KO2 sample chopping videos are a "stuttery mess" is because those users are simply tapping the buttons. You've got to keep each button depressed for the duration of that desired slice.

I think what he means is it retriggers the sample each time you change start/end points automatically without hitting the pad (after the actual manual chop) unless you have the sequencer running. That’s annoying af

it forces you to finish beats. when you fill up the projects, just finish the beats to get them off. I also wiped all the sounds from my unit so that I just loadesd my own sounds. I did save the original sounds ofc

You can set in the system to swtich to BAR for the scene switching where it would switch at the end of the BAR, not instant. Just fyi.

Thanks man! Yes an no, if you have SCN set to BAR in the system settings, holding shift and using the -/+ buttons will skip to the next bar after the current bar ends. So you have to press it after the last bar of the scene has started.

The file names is honestly not that bad, you can preview them pretty quickly so it actually feels intuitive. And if you really wanna see it you can hold the key down to do that

Some tough pills to swallow in there….but cool for small stereo output projects I guess. Maybe I’d just make loops to feed into the Akai Force or Ableton. Really just looking for a mobile tool that can play well in a bigger ecosystem.

Yeah so weird! Every other parameter works so either I messed something up or it was a bug. I show the jungle drums part quickly in the sampling part, just sampled the amen break and chopped it up. Might make a more detailed one w some tips if i have time 👌🏻duplicating bars would be handy af

It is yes, in the system settings you can set key and scale. You can also transpose the range of the pads by semitone and not just octave

all your criticisms are right. for the velocity i think you are supposed record the part then go into the slider velocity control and record the velocity with the slider.

I can't find how anywhere in the manual, by experimenting, or on the internet. But yeah now they have a chance at scouring through the feedback and this will probably stand out if that's the case. Receives most MIDI messages but I haven't tried it, not sure how it handles them and it's not very clear in the manual.

Yeah you can change between tick and bar but if you have 4 bars in your sequence you have to wait until the last one before switching, and it misses notes in the transition.

Yeah, I'm returning the SmplTrek... that tiny freakin screen - I can't deal with it. Just my 2 cents, your MMV. And I've got several pieces of Roland gear that I love (big Roland fangirl here) but I'm having probs with the SP-404MK2 workflow. Full disclosure tho, it's my first of the SP series and I don't see correlations to the workflow on my beloved MC-707, etc. I've got one of these KO 2's coming on Monday!

In short, more fun and hands on imo, the SP404 MK2 is much more convoluted and confuses a lot of newcomers to the point where they just give up, but on the other hand you can do a lot more with it.

The thing that's goin on with the fader is that if you press too much on it, the connection inside just bends and doesn't work anymore. This happens either when people put the knob thing on it, which is one of the tightest to put on, or either when it gets shipped, the box gets pushed among other stuff which pushes the fader and does the thing. The only found way to fix it is by taking apart the unit, then take out the fader with some soldering equipment then re-bend it to the right position. Or you could send it back to te so that they can fix it.

Nothing can beat maschine in my opinion. I had roland sp404 and 555 in 2012 but i dreamed of sth that could give me possibility to add my own instruments. And fast arranging under finger.Samplers can give a lot of fun because u only use ear during the creation of a beat ./sometimes Visual representation of arrangement and even sample sometimes is confusing and even harmful. / so there is two sides. Maschine is also has limitations. Fastest workflow is only with maschne daw. And maschine daw isnt perfect. Funny thing that sp404was a great sampler . Probably now is more popular than mpcs . This hardware from the video is a probably baby of the instagram stories with girls bouncing to their painted 404s in their bedroom / and getting more likes than me :p what makes me sad🐶

I agree with that, it’s a bit convoluted now with the clips and all, was objectively faster with less button pushes to reach the same goal with sequencing and arranging, but it’s still undefeated in terms of that. Akai won the masses and built the rep, but it’s still essentially the MPC workflow (which some love), to me the Maschine was the more flexible evolution of that after 10 years of MPCing. This is a fun thing though! Wouldn’t really compare them next to eachother.

I own a smpltrk, tracker, KO2 and an MPC live, and some Eurorack samplers. I’d recommend the tracker or the KO2 as a 1st sampler for sure.

Anyone else notice he didn't put the cross fader knob on? haha ... there is a hack to get the knob on, you just take a small pair of thin needle nose pliers and hold the metal stem and then push the knob on.
