Hi Simon and Gemma, I am thoroughly enjoying your exploits with Sarinda. Gemma, instead of having a seperate lower bench, make up a duck board (similar to the bridges you made) to increase your height above the existing bench. That way you both can be comfortable at 1 bench.

A few more volunteers would be helpful, So how about it folks, if you are able to help with a day or two now & then , let's help Simon and Gem with this worthwhile project. After all, it's a boat that was commissioned & served its country . Best wishes guys ,your doing a really great job . Respect....!

I grew up in the country. When the rainy season hit, the bridges over the creeks would wash away. The locals would hop on tractors and go look for them. We finally chained them to anchors so they wouldn’t go that far

Please don't take this as a criticism but if that grey paint you spray onto the metal pieces is just cold galvanising then they will need a rust convertor on first. Although they have 95% of the rust removed the remaining 5% of the rust will flourish under the paint. I remain impressed with your level of dedication and quality of work going into this project, keep at it team!

@agw5425 5 месяцев назад
The bridges is a good idea but I also recommend a floating pier anchored next to the ship, both as a landing when the water is in and a "bridge" over the mud next to the ship when it´s out. A 3x3 meter platform at the stern should not get in the way of the nailing, you may even be able to move it to do nails above the waterline at high tide.

In the 1950s, that stretch of coast near the road you drive down to the sea used to be a lovely sandy beach that we children played on for hours. Aged eight, started to sail out into the Estuary from that exact location of the boat yard when it stored the Dee Sailing Club dingys. Now it is all silted like at Parkgate but at least the tide still comes in.

Visegrips for 13th birthday, thats not bad. In the mid 70's when I turned 1, i got a shotgun and a chainsaw. Got to get firewood and something to eat. Gorwin up in the bay was a lot different that town or city. At 13, you were no longer a boy, almost a young man, treated as such, and expected to do the work for your size. Never ever loan out tools, not even o family, they can bring what they fixed or buy their own tools.

When I've done restoration projects involving cleaning rust from metal parts,I've always then had them hot dipped galvanised. That makes them absolutely bombproof against further corrosion. Where needed to paint to match other parts,I've used an etch primer followed by the paint colour-but it's the galvanising that provides the massive long term protection.
