Lest We Forget for all those that serviced our countries during war nice to see on Simon's jumper as this coming weekend is our ANZAC DAY a day we should never forget for those that gave all God bless them all. Love your humour your joke and what you do together how is the shed going as the last l watched it was the inner walls and door you showed us from start to finish of the planks you used. I also like how much you do to preserve as much of the original as you including the Gun mounts part of boats history and you put a lot of thought in what you do it comes on my tablet first on a Friday then when l watch RU-vid on Saturday night we get to watch it again.

I think that the gun support beams are a part of the history of what is actually a historic boat. There is nothing wrong with repairing them; just look at ships like HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. they will also become reference points for future maritime historians.

The deck cleats and other hardware can be polished using a power buffer and various grades of fine polishing compound. It will be necessary to apply a clear coating of some sort to protect the aluminum from oxidation and pitting. Perhaps polish followed by clear anodizing would be the best treatment.

Regarding the cleats i would "rumble" them. If you can find a metal finishers somewhere they should have a rumbler, which is basically a large vibrating drum filled with abrasive stones which will clean metals to a nice uniform finish. Quick polish ready for plating/hard anodising (depending what the base metal is) Bob as they say is yer muvva's bruvva!

That was a nice soft day as we say over here in Ireland😄. You need a good plating shop to re anodise the cleats and Fairleads. Car wheels are usually powder coated these days. Remember the Wolf Race from the 1980's ? No didnt think so, probably a bit young then. But Starsky & Hutch had them on their Ford Forino as far as I know. They were polished aluminium. Used to look great, even on a banger. You could double the value of your car fitting a set. 😄😄

Hi love what you two get up to in your daily struggle to rebuild that lovely ship, if those lumps of metal are galvanised steel then send them to a platers and they can strp them and regalvanise or plate them with your desired coating.

Hi guys, I really enjoy your videos. You asked about the fittings and what to do with them. I have worked around salt water a long time. In my opinion, you should either powder coat them or Cerakote them. You may think that this would be difficult however, you would be surprised how simple it is. There is a clear advantage to powder coating fittings however you have to be vigilant after you have installed them. Any intrusion through the coating will instantly allow corrosion to set in and it will undermine the coating causing it to flake away. The cool thing is, if you have an intrusion through the powder coat, you can repair it with a torch and some of you leftover powder. You simply clean the area, sand it, heat it up with a propane torch and apply powder. Now, this is a repair and will eventually fail. But it is far more durable than traditional paint. Also, you might find someone who is near you that would maybe partner with you that is a professional powder coater. Now, Cerakote. Cerakote is a ceramic coating that has multiple uses and application requirements. They have specific coatings for marine and salt water applications. Obviously , I would recommend that you contact them and ask for their professional recommendations. I will provide some links so that you can look into it. Obviously the decision would be yours. If I was in your position, I would reach out to each of the following suppliers and ask for support using your channel as a marketing promotion. You could contact these suppliers and asked if they had recommendations for the type of powder and method of application for your specific use. I think you would find that they would be extremely helpful. Also, the powder is quite affordable. If you want to try this yourself, you will need a powder coating gun, an old oven and a sand blasting cabinet. Along with some expendable shop supplies such as tape, hi-heat tape, rags and such. For a basic powder coat gun, you can get one that is decent from Eastwood. www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-powder-coating.html If you want to have a choice of really cool colors you can go to Prismatic Powders www.prismaticpowders.com/ Cerakote finishes www.cerakote.com/ Cerakote boat finishes www.cerakote.com/project-gallery?htids=Boat%20Coating Cerakote corrosion video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IL_bXx_qtfo.html

Have to comment on your dedication and incredible hard work. Came across your build initial thinking it may have been an old wartime Fairmile B as that is my main source of interest as so many are now lost to the dreaded rot with few survivors though many did survive as pleasure boats after the war especially in my neck of the woods in Torbay my late father being an engineer in the 1950's /60's and knew these vessels very well. Similar construction but not to be. Amazed at your hardness, patience and dedication to this restoration. Good luck and stay safe.

Gemma at 62 years old I've recently learnt of a tip for cordless drills regarding drill bit slipping out. What amazes me is no manufacturer includes this in their manuals. This tip works on my DeWalt and Milwaukee cordless drills and it is this.Once you have tightened up the chuck tight against the drill turn the chuck as if you were loosening it and your chuck should make a distinctive click, when this happens stop turning it and now your drill bit is locked in place and shouldn't fall out.

if the wood's rotten, just replace them. Historic or not. It'll just harm the good wood. Would be nice to keep the gun supports for a talking point, but as Gemma says, if it doesnt fit in your version of your boat, then thems the breaks. There's fully restored boats out there. :)

Good morning Simon & Gemma I find it quite incredible on what your doing. Ive owed a boat in past years. And spent most of my lifetime around boating and the cost. Everything on and related to boating is expensive extremely expensive, in the past shows I see that you had retired from your day jobs... utube must be extremely lucrative as you now have three boats. And now a big shed. So spill the beans on what you are being financed by utube as its gone from one boat to 3 , a big shed and running a house looking after a family all in hostile time's. hard wood o my days it's more than doubled in the past 3 years..I love what your doing as it's incredibly challenging but very rewarding at the end. 🥂😃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

When I saw Gemma hammering at that bolt right next to Simon's head, that old joke came to mind - "When I nod my head, hit it!" - - - Did you get your tender back, or is it halfway to Chester?

Great cuppa that Simon, just the way I do it! Cup cleaning - use those fancy rubbing down pads for car body work, bit a Fairy, works a treat. Great vlog. Stay well.

I would just clean the cleats and fairleads and buff them. They are functional pieces and will weather no matter what you do.
