ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a RU-vid channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.
We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

I was just in Pagosa Springs last week. My niece lives there. My brother and I made the trip. Stayed at Healing Waters and spent the day at Williams Reservoir. It was an amazing day and trip. I made notes all week about camping spots for my husband and I. The South Fork area looked amazing as well. It was my first trip to Colorado. Thanks for the memories.

We were last in Pagosa in the early 90’s. I believe that soaking resort was expensive back then. Love that part of Colorado and the part of New Mexico just south of there the Sangre De Christo range. There is a particularly beautiful overlook on the road between Taos and Pagosa in what I think was called Chama Valley.

We almost turned south towards Chama from there, Timothy, but instead decided to work our way north instead. Chama is still on our radar for a future trip.

@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 3 года назад
@@blakecouch thanks for asking. We love the floorplan, and we're pleased by the build quality. Sure we've had a minor thing or two that needs to be addressed, but they're extremely minor things that can easily wait until we return to SLC in November, and many fewer issues than we hear from most new RV buyers. There's enough room for us to live comfortably, yet it's small enough that I can still get it into most places. We love the massive windows that give us sweeping views from our boondocking spots. And our solar/lithium upgrades that we did basically give us all the energy we can consume, and we consume a *lot*. We go weeks without even unpacking the generator. Honestly, we're tickled with it.

The first time I was ever there before I had a RV we were staying in a motel. I didn't notice the smell when we checked in but in the morning I thought the maids had missed a spot where someone's pet had messed on the carpet.😁 You are in and going to some nice areas. Have you looked at the Angelfire area or the Rocky Mountain National Park? We are leaving on or about Fathers day and going to ABQ, Santa Fe then up to Raton pass. Then to Loveland. Then work or way to Cody Wo.

Another great video Marc! I especially enjoy your history of the places that you visit. I really like the drone photography as well! Glad you got to do some kayaking at Williams Reservoir. We drove our RV to Teal campground Wednesday but no sites open so we found a spot at Cimerona. What day were you at Williams? I should have warned you about the cell service around Pagosa. It’s bad even in town. I’m waiting for my Starlink invitation. Starlink will be a game changer for boondocking when they enable the mobile version. I do agree with you on hot spring admission prices - outrageous! They must have increased them recently but they used to have a reduced “locals day” price. Not sure if they still offer that. Thanks for mentioning me in the video, glad I be of some help. I'm sure you will enjoy Creed as well. Thanks, Jim
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 3 года назад
Thank you James! We were up at Williams Creek Reservoir last Saturday, 6/5/2021. Indeed, Starlink will be a real game changer. Right now they have our deposit, we've worked our way up the list that far and we're just waiting for the call to order the equipment. Hopefully the forthcoming mobile station will use less than the 100W of power that the current residential version uses, but even that will be acceptable for now as you can now change your service location within the app. We found a gorgeous legal boondocking spot here goo.gl/maps/v5PLg7G4zvTHaP3J8 that we would've taken in a heartbeat if we had data for work. Finally, we've absolutely fallen in love with Creede -- the boondocking, the town and the people are all first rate.

My Starlink deposit was made in February and supposedly will get an invite to order mid to end of 2021. Will have to check out that boondocking spot that you found. I think I know the area. We liked Bachelor Loop in Creede. Our neighbors really like the Antlers restaurant there in Creede - I haven’t been there yet. We did like Kips restaurant in Creede. Glad you found a great boondocking site there. Looking forward to the Creede video! Thanks, Jim

@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 3 года назад
Thanks again Gregory! As far as the music soundtrack goes, we try to find a track that matches the mood that we're trying to convey with the visuals in any particular segment, and usually acoustic tracks work best as we're most often out in nature somewhere. Just be happy that we're not pulling from my personal music collection, for stuff like hardcore punk doesn't usually go well with these visuals. 🤣

HI Marc, I’ve been watching your videos for a few years and they are by far the best in location reviews. My wife and I, are getting into kayaking and we purchased a two person and one person kayak from the local sport store. They are not that great and eventually we will be looking for a better performing kayak. What Kayak do you have and any recommendations? You should do a segment on kayaks. Stay safe and keep putting out the great videos.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 2 года назад
Thank you Matt! That boat I'm using is probably 20 years old now, it's a 14.5' Necky Looksha Sport. I still use it because I love it, and will some day replace it only because I'd like a lighter, sleeker composite-hulled boat. They still make that model, but they've since abandoned the Greenland-style hull shape they used with mine (hard chines, lower cowl, more upswept bow), in favor of something more current and not nearly as attractive, IMO. Here are my thoughts on kayaks: 1. The longer the boat is, the more accurately it will track; but 2. The longer the boat is, the heavier and more cumbersome to transport it will be; 3. I'm a fan of a rudder to enhance tracking, especially when paddling upwind; 4. First and foremost, the boat needs to fit you. There are online guides to kayak fitting written by others much more knowledgeable on the subject than I am; 5. Sit-in kayaks tend to be more stable as your center of mass is at or below the waterline; 6. Sit-in kayaks tend to be faster as their beam is not as wide; 7. Sit-in kayaks permit the use of a spray skirt for paddling in a wider range of conditions; and 8. Sit-in kayaks have cargo capacity should you wish to embark upon a multi-day paddling trip. Hope this helps!

Wondering where you bought your comfy looking grey cushiony chairs?

LOL! They were chocolate brown at one time. 🤣 Camping World, where they call them "club chairs". They're the comfiest things ever.

You sure spend time in Colorado. I want to go where, would you suggest we start. I have been to vail in the winter.

Much of the reason that we've spent so much time in Colorado, Don, is that it's adjacent to what's been our home state for the past 16 years. Our favorite part is definitely the southwestern quarter, in the San Juan Mountains.

Wow, $49 for a bath? I guess that keeps the crowds away for those that can afford it.

The price was crazy, Tom. I looked quickly at the rates and saw $24. That was bad enough, but that turned out to be the children's price. We'll be searching out some free, natural hot springs before we leave Colorado.

@@GrandAdventure Rainbow hot springs is a hike to springs in the near by San Juan national forest. Before you do it I’d suggest you stop by the Forest service station in town and talk to a ranger. I went a few years back in August and the water was pretty low.
