When many adventure travelers and RV'ers think of Utah, they think only of the Mighty Five National Parks: Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef. However, there's a whole lot more to see in our home state, and we'll share some of our favorite spots throughout Utah on this episode of Grand Adventure.
GET GRAND ADVENTURE STUFF
We've created some fun and quirky merchandise particularly for RV campers, including t-shirts, coffee mugs and more. Sales help to support Grand Adventure to keep bringing you outdoor adventure videos each and every week. Visit teespring.com/stores/grandadv... to browse our selection.
USE WHAT WE USE
We've opened a Grand Adventure store on Amazon! www.amazon.com/shop/GrandAdve... Unlike other Amazon shops, from RV stuff to our dogs and even photography and videography, every single item you see in our store is hand picked from things we use ourselves in our own Grand Adventures. We've tried it, we've tested it, and we can heartily recommend it. No random stuff or paid product placements.
It costs you no more to shop Amazon with us, but by shopping our store a portion of each sale goes to bringing you more and better Grand Adventure videos! Thank you for clicking through to give us a look!

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a RU-vid channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on RU-vid, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Honestly I love your channel ... not only am I learning a lot about Utah ... but you showed me more about Colorado than I knew in 45 years living here ... and I was in boy scouts and did a lot of camping in CO. Hopefully your subscriber count will grow ... because its one of the highest quality channels out there and only just being discovered, IMHO. I do prefer your videos and drone footage, but you do a nice job with photos also. Your narration is super ... so nice to not have the long winded talking / rambling found on so many channels.

Thank you so very much, Scott & Chris! We sincerely appreciate your comments. OK, though, it's now confession time: these "moving stills" videos are what happens when we've run out of content from the previous camping season, and the new season has yet to start. 😁 We spent decades in the outdoors shooting tons and tons of photos, but didn't really start shooting much video until the end of 2017 when we launched Grand Adventure. So there's a deep vault of still photos available when we've run out of video. But good news, next week's video is being shot this week at the massive RVX industry trade show, so we'll be back with some on-location content next Wednesday! And we saw a few pretty exciting things at RVX that we're anxious to share.

One of my favorite places in Utah is the Henry Mountains just east of Capital Reef National Park. It goes from 3,000 to 11,000 feet in a short time and has everything from slot canyons, views of the swell, American Bison, alpine peeks, Native art and on and on. It is one of the most remote places in Utah and very few people visit.
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
Indeed. For the unaware, the Henrys are south of Hanksville and north of Bullfrog on Lake Powell. I always wondered if Hanksville gets its name from the Henry Mountains, or vice versa.

This was a fun one to do, Ram. It was another one of those "filler" episodes from last winter but we got to draw from la photo bank from iterally 7 or 8 years of adventures around Utah. We could've gone even further but wanted to use relatively recent stuff. The point of the video, which we hope came through, was that while many (most?) RV'ers think of the 5 National Parks in Utah and little else, some of the best things to see in the state are actually outside of those parks.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Planning a 30 day trip across the country this summer from Pennsylvania with my 17 year old daughter. I want to create a memory for her that will last a lifetime, long after I'm gone. Planning on spending 7 days in Utah, boondocking. This was very helpful. 7 days is not enough time to see everything in Utah. Guess I'll just have to plan another trip in 2020.

You're welcome! But don't worry about June, when we were weekending we'd have no issue finding a spot even on a Friday evening. You'll have better luck if you forego places listed in online directories and instead seek out your own unpublished spot using land use maps, MVUMs, and Google Earth/Satellite in conjunction with each other. I’m a subscriber and FB follower... this video was beautiful and gave me some great ideas for exploring our beautiful state. I’ll be honest though, we are relatively new RVers (one full summer under our belt) and I was hoping this video was going to be more specific. I would’ve loved ideas on where specifically to find great boondocking locations. I’ve watched your videos on finding boondocking locations and I need to watch them again before I plan out our summer... but as a newbie, it can be overwhelming researching those locations, not to mention being able to tell from a map whether they will be accessible for a 36’ fifth wheel! Going to go watch some of your other videos now, this did make me very excited for camping. Your video of the Uinta mountains near Heber led us to one of our now favorite camping spots, so thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge!!

Love all the work you are putting into these episodes. Late to the game so only subscribed a few weeks ago, but catching up as we are moving up to a tow-behind camper (yep, an R-Pod) this summer from our small, truck cab-over pop-up. Been doing a bit of boondocking here in CO as well as UT and WY. Several favorite spots are above 9k ft and wondered if you had any issues with the Mr. Heater at higher altitudes. Read manufacturer's notices about safety shut-off potential at higher alts but thought you're experience would be a good data point. Thanks, Lance & Peggy

You're not late to the game at all, Lance & Peggy! In fact, we're just getting started! Congrats on the R-Pod, our two friends who bought them both love them. We've had few, if any issues with the Mr. Heater at elevation -- and we're sometimes well over 10,000 feet at camp. In fact, the most problematic propane appliance for us at elevation is the fridge, which we'll occasionally have to reset because the burner goes out, but even that is no big deal. Hi Mark, Well, I see one or two other people are as impressed with this presentation as I am. ;-) Spectacular photos! I particularly like the one at ~16:45. While watching, whenever you mentioned a location I paused the video and plugged the spot into Google Maps, then saved it as a "Want to go" favorite under "Your Places". For those who aren't familiar with it, "Want to go" is a great feature. Any time you read/hear about a place that sounds interesting, save it there and Google will create a green "push pin" on the map. Click on any pin and you'll get photos, reviews, etc of that place.

I was already planning to hit some of these areas this summer, 9 mile canyon for one and some other drives in the same area. The wedge area looks very interesting and this is the first time I've heard of it. A couple of our favorite spots not mentioned are the Hole in the Rock road near Escalante. I want to boondock at Dance Hall rock if the road looks safe to travel. And the other is the area north east of Capital Reef: Cathedral Valley Road, there are a few spots in the park but most is BLM land. We've just scratched the surface of that road net. We've driven the loop including Harnet road but the roads extend to the north from the Temple of the Sun and Moon. I'd like to boondock there but I think that area is in the park. However you've not covered the whole west side of your state from I-70 south to Delta. We had a real adventure on those roads. We just were exploration driving and got off i_70 on some farm road headed south and we followed those roads all the way to Lund then up to Milford. We had no maps and we just going south. We had one diversion when we saw a sign for Cougar Pass (and I've never been able to find that on a map) we followed that road passing a group of hot and disgruntled teens hiking out beyond nowhere and pushing handcarts. I stopped and asked the adult what was going and and he was rather unpleasant and said it was some teen leadership group. For kids in trouble I guess. Anyway we did find Cougar Pass which was right on the Nevada line. Quit a ways in too maybe 25 miles. By the time we got to Lund it was starting to get dark and my daughter was disgruntled herself think we were lost forever....heh.

Great Video, as always. We are in the process of purchasing a travel trailer and I was curious if you had any tips or thoughts on your EVO, especially with regards to length and getting into and out of all the cool places you camp and with regard to cold weather - how does it do when the temps drop below freezing?
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
Thank you, David! Our Evo is 25'11" overall including the hitch, and the "box length" is 23'. We're extremely happy with that size for who we are, and what we do. It gives us the freedom to get into some out of the way places, especially with its ground clearance (although we added skid plates to protect the dump valves and stairs). Not once in 6 months full-time in 2018 did we feel that it was too small for two adults and two dogs. It has the "Arctic Package" which basically makes it a great three-season trailer -- insulated and enclosed underbelly, extra insulation in the walls and ceiling, and two 12V heat pads in the fresh water tank. The only thing that keeps it from being a four-season trailer, as far as we're concerned, is the exposed dump valves, which is why we insulated and added heat tape to them as shown in Ep. 12: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KABF205es_U.html

I was wondering if you'd care to describe your truck & travel trailer setup? I'm in the market for a Tundra myself but realize they max out at just under 10,000 +/- pounds for towing? Thanks!
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 4 года назад
Thanks BJ! We're thrilled to have you here. Tundras vary slightly from model to model. Our 2014 long bed access cab SR5 has a capacity of 10,100 lbs. Our trailer, a 2016 Evo T2050 (25' 11" overall) has a dry weight of ~5,500 lbs. and a max gross weight of ~ 7,400 lbs. The Tundra tows it with ease. The trailer is heavy for its length, but the increased weight is due to two opposing slides (kitchen and dinette) that open to an overall 15-foot width.

It's so out of balance that we are constantly having to move between lowering the volume of the music, which is way too loud, or increasing volume to hear your voiceover. It's this way in all of your videos. We subscribe to a number of RV RU-vid channels, and yours is the only one where this is a consistent issue. Would you please consider addressing this? Thanks.

As far as we know, Tessa, what you've heard is a myth. It has a distinct smell, not an ocean smell but instead what some Utahns refer to as "lake stink" that's not at all pleasant. It's not constant, it depends on what algae has washed up on a particular shoreline and died.

How many batteries are recommended for Boondocking
@GrandAdventure
@GrandAdventure 5 лет назад
Bob, I know that this sounds like a dodge, but it all depends on your electrical consumption needs, the capacity of your batteries, how often you'll be recharging, what your method of recharging is, etc. Estimate your daily consumption, then divide it by the number of waking hours and you'll have a good idea of your needs in Amp-hours. Personally we run two 6V golf cart batteries wired in series to produce 12 volts, with a total 210 Ah capacity. However, we generate more than that each day with 200W of solar, so we'd like a couple more batteries to be able to store all of that excess power.
