Hey hey, it's Teacher Kaye!
Do you believe that children are innately good? Well, they are; and when we see them do things that can be hurtful, it's only because they haven't learned what to do and how to control their impulses yet.
Here are a few ways to help your child develop healthy impulse control, with techniques from research AND my own best practices as a clinician. I hope that one, OR ALL, of these help you.
Happy talking! 🗣
#selfregulation #impulsecontrol #behavior
Concerned about your child? Consider these next steps:
- consult your pedia if a referral to a Developmental Pedia is necessary,
- get in touch with me for an informal clinical impression.

Catching up with your informative videos and thank God I found your channel. I have a son with Autism and never naka-enrolled sa speech therapy. But we are thankful kc he was able to learn how to speak thru our constant communication with him. But of course, he could be better if ma-assist sya ng speech therapist mismo. God bless and stay safe...

This is very helpful because Basti still grabs from Alessi. At what age should kids develop self-regulation. He's 4 in 3 months.
@TeacherKayeTalks
@TeacherKayeTalks 3 года назад
We start developing different levels of self-regulation from birth! Learning not to suck our thumbs when the adult repeatedly removes our fingers from our mouths, tolerating another person taking a turn during a game or with a toy, eventually not saying or doing things we know might hurt other people, etc. Make sure you're consistent with your response when Basti grabs. If you sometimes correct it, and other times let it slide, this may cause him to be confused if it's okay or not. Hope this helps!

Thanks teacher kaye! But what if we are trying to teach him with an object/picture we are holding but wants it (tries to get it with all his might!)and does tantrums kpag hindi napagbigyan? And he also throws things? Dunno what intervention should we use😭 he is 2 and 4 months now..

Hello! 1st I wanna assure you that this is quite a common reaction from kids, especially kapag nasanay na talaga sila na lahat ng gusto nilang makuha ay ibibigay. What has worked with my the most in therapy are the following: 1. I will keep trying to elicit the target response you want from the teaching activity (example: did you want him to say a word to get the object?) I will give him ALL THE CUES para lang magawa niya, or at last see if he is attempting to do it, then ibibigay ko na. Then the next time you try it, decrease the cues every time, or increase the time before he is given the object. Then he is already practicing delayed gratification. 2. If he throws objects, remove the object completely from sight after and highlight "tinapon mo, so itatago ko na. WE don't throw things here" or something similar. 3. Remove desired objects from his sight talaga, para naiintindihan nyang he won't get things by throwing tantrums. Let me know if you wanna discuss more, you may contact me on Facebook facebook.com/teacherkayetalks/

My son is 2 yrs 2 mos and when he is angry he throw things, banging his head to me or anyone that carries him. Is that normal? And when we try to discipline him by hitting his palm he will just copy us.

Hi Arthur, I don't know enough about ABA to comment, but while ABA only focuses on altering behaviors, OTs manage behaviors to learn other skills and complete tasks. Hope this helps, but I may not be the best person to ask, hindi ko po ito specialty. ✨

Thank you teacher! Sana matopic nyo po sana about ADHD v/s normal hyperactive baby at kung may cause ba ng speech delay or not? Thank you so much sana mapansin ang aking concerns. Godbless!

Very good idea, I have an ADHD video in the works, kaso collaboration po siya and I'm at the mercy of the contributor hehe Advice ko po, usually yung mga hyper means may hinahanap silang stimulation (they are hypostimulated). Pwede pong mag-start kayo ng routine every day na pagka-gising nya meron kayong physical activity, like jogging or jumping jacks. Also try to incorporate yung curiosity niya with your activities, so set your house up na parang obstacle course, like going under chairs and over boxes, etc. while stimulating language. As for the nagtatapon ng gamit: nasubukan na ho ba yung tips sa video na ito? Kasi one of these usually works with my clients.

@@TeacherKayeTalks thank you teacher sa advices!

Hi teacher. Galit sya.

Hello, You are right, it is what we call TV talk or delayed echolalia, from the things na napapanood niya. Usually, when children say lines from shows, they either really like how it sounds, or they can relate to the feeling of when this is said. In this case, it sounds like the end of a video/program, and it could mean: 1. alam niyang wala nang kasunod, and this makes her sad or angry, 2. so this is what she will say when she is sad or angry, and wants whatever is happening to stop. This means may gusto siyang i-communicate, but wala pa siyang other vocabulary to express it, so "hihiramin" niya yung words na na-memorize nya. See more about Echolalia here, and how we can teach her more meaningful words. ALSO, this is an indication of overexposure to screen time. See my post on screen addiction: instagram.com/p/CRJYfz7j_wq/ Andito ang paliwanag kung anong nangyayari sa brains ng baby kapag nanonood ng videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OmZvmt-6Zug.html Let's also work on her receptive and expressive vocabulary, para malaman niya how to express herself better. Here are some videos with techniques and activities you can practice para matulungan siya to learn more words that are meaningful sa kanya. - episode 41 on Following commands ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nv1TQJv7xRs.html - episode 12 on Action Songs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yfn3iFiTklI.html - episode 44 on pointing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IeLrLfWirVQ.html - episode 17 on object identification ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A2Y1GG2WJ7Q.html - episode 13 on Yes/No ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-64SsrKgamhQ.html episode 5 on sounds to words ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mT3iKlDXxsc.html This is your homework, let me know how it goes in about 1 month! ✨
