Dr. Cywes you and Dr. Berry have changed my life! I started a keto diet on 02/25/23 and shortly after went carnivore, my A1C was 5.7, LDL 189. My Dr. just short of insisted I take a statin but I adamantly said no and she asked why. Fast forward to last Friday she asked me again to reconsider taking a statin I again said no, I had my labs done on my way out. She called me yesterday with my results and admitted she was “very impressed” my A1C was 4.8 and my LDL is now 169 and she went as far as saying I have done so well that she no longer recommends a statin! She would probably fall over if she knew I live off of beef, cracklin, butter, tallow, eggs, and a lot of salt.

Pretty much same story here, without the second visit yet. Went from SAD to full-on Carnivore on 2-20-23. Saw my doctor about a month ago, walked in 50 pounds lighter than the last time I saw him and of course, he went nuts and praised my efforts up and down. Blood pressure AND bloodwork work came perfect for the first time in DECADES, all except for my LDL, which was 2 points higher (196) than my last results. He not only wanted to give me a statin, but also Repatha! Nope, I'm good...

@@sharonthurman2747 Very interesting! I started experiencing parosmia about 12 years ago. I don’t know what triggered it, but it was very intense. Since starting keto it has gotten much, much better! I have occasional episodes, but they are short lived and far less intense.

My almost 81 year old husband has been on statins since he had quadruple bypass surgery at age 54. 8 years ago he suffered a ventricular tachycardia episode and was without a pulse for several minutes. Since that time his heart has been fine, but he became increasingly lethargic. He also had a great deal of brain fog and increased memory issues. Most recently he was wanting to sleep 20 out of 24 hours a day. His cardiologist ordered an echo…all was good. No change in medication. I became increasingly frustrated because this was no way for him to live. Our daughter and son told me about you and your podcasts. I’ve been paying attention. The first thing I did was change his statin from every day to every other day. His life and behavior changed almost instantly. He’s still pretty weak, but he is now getting up every morning, sleeping only at night (except for an occasional nap), doing every day things like filling the bird feeders, emptying the dishwasher, fixing his own lunches, carrying groceries into the house. I’m furious at this being such a simple fix, and no doctor even suggested it might be his statin. I have now eliminated the statin from his medication regime!!! Thank you for your wisdom.

So thankful to hear this message. I stopped taking statins after 20 years 17 months ago. I believe with all my heart that taking them for 20 years caused me to have afib 15 years ago. I had afib ablation 3 years ago. a PVC ablation yesterday 6/28. No doctor has disagreed with me about this side affect. I am hoping and praying that is the last ablation I need. Had my first cholesterol test at 45. It was about 240. The doctor was climbing the wall to start me on his favorite diet and to prescribe statins. I tried this for about 6 months and started having serious muscle fatigue and brain fog. At the next appointment I crept into his examining room looking like I was 10 years older. I told him I was going to stop taking the junk drug. A blood test still showed 210 for cholesterol. I had very good insurance then so he ordered a heart scan. When the results came back I was in the top 10% for low calcium. 8 years ago with a new city and a new doctor I went through the same situation at my first blood test. After expounding on why I would never take statins and mentioning my calcium score he ordered an ultrasound. Similar result. Very low calcium. I know a lot of people who are on this trash. I have watched their health deteriorate in a matter of months. I don't preach, but I tell them of my experience. Some have listened and are always grateful for the information when we meet months or years latter.

Include me in the 75%. I trashed statins after starting to suffer severe muscle spasm in my rib cage. But I also noticed that although my total cholesterol and LDC-C came down, my triglycerides were still too high. Only when I trashed statins and went LCHF, did I get my triglycerides nice and low, and in 2022 I had my best numbers; insulin sensitivity (HOMA-IR) of 0.68.

Many years ago, Statins ruined my working life for 3 years. I found myself not being able to think and solve problems. Since I had a highly paid job where I was continually problem solving, the amount of stress I was under was incredible. I even had a brain scan to see what the problem was, the brain scan was totally normal. Then my husband came across a man telling of the symptoms he was experiencing and they were exactly what I was experiencing! He said coming off Statins solved his problem! I stopped taking them immediately, and within 3 days, I was totally back to normal! I don’t know how much my lifespan has been reduced by the excessive stress, I experienced for 3 years but I’m fine now. A couple of years ago my doctor recommended that I go back on Statins, despite the figures (that I worked out from my own blood test results) being absolutely amazing! (I’ve been on a Keto diet now for 3 1/2 years). They have a funny way of working out high cholesterol in the UK to determine if you need to go on to Statins, they don’t actually distinquish between good and bad cholesterol! I will NEVER ever take Statins again!

I've been waiting for such a podcast. In 2007 I was put on a statin (with a cholesterol of 202) and after months of complaining about muscle weakness I went into my doctor, to find out that I had developed Type 2 Diabetes, in addition to muscle wasting. Going from an A1c of 4.8 prior to statins to 11.8 in less than one years' time. This resulted in my going Vegan to try and control the diabetes, which lead to foot neuropathy. Due to concern for my eyes and kidneys, I made the dive to Gastric Bypass surgery (RnY), having heard that 78% of clients come off the table without diabetes (though never told that it would be temporary). Through years of research and delving into biochemistry, I've gone Ketogenic and by doing my own labs via the internet, have gotten control of my diabetes (A1c 5.2) staying away from the medical professionals. This now leads me to today with malabsorption issues with B-1, B-12 and Ferritin. I have a consultation with you in August to discuss what a person like me may do to assist with these malabsorption issues. Where is the class action lawsuit in regards to those of us who are now living with life long issues to taking statins.

In 2019, I was told to urgently go see a neurovascular surgeon (the head of that department in a major medical school!). As we were going over my then 8 medications, the doctor stated that, like me, he took a statin daily. I told him, "I hope you are also taking CoQ10 every day." He asked why. "Well, statins leach a vital nutrient, CoQ10, from every muscle in our bodies. I think you'll likely agree that our most vital muscle is our heart." He was dumbfounded. After a few moments of silence, he said thank you for the information. I'll research it and we'll talk about it next week. At my next appointment, he thanked me for that information and told me he started taking CoQ10 the day following our first meeting!

I am Type II Diabetic. My Doc prescribed Crestor and I had leg and foot pain/cramps every night in places like my arches. My Doc poopoo it and said everyone had cramps. I insisted they weren't normal cramps. He finally agreed to swictch statin to Pravachol. I started having memory issues but I thought it was just age until he doubled the prescription. I went to serious memory issues in no time. I suspected it was the statin and took myself off of the drug. In the 4 months or so before my next Dr. visit, I went from forgetting the names of items I had collected for years to remembering everything. He poopooed again. When I told the Dr. he wanted to try another one. I said no, stating I wouldn't like to live a long life in memory care. He wasn't happy I didn't fall in line. He was still PO'ed at my last visit. I need a new doc. One that understands Type II and understands low carb eating to control it. My doc's wisdom to me when we discovered I was Type II, was to eat more fruits and veggies. No other instruction except for 2 Metformin a day. In a metro area of 2.5 million I can't seem to find a doc that understands this stuff but for two that are outside my insurance coverage. So I just have to read up and look out for myself.

yeah statin a slow poison, lowered cholesterol is a terrible thing to do, before learning about the side effects like lowered testosterone and other major hormone effects( which because I'm naive thinking doctors understood medical stuff) took them for ten years, my health overall declined just slow enough even though I've always exercised and had a decent diet, to make it seem like "normal aging", minimum dose Simvastain just to be clear. So about two years ago threw Rx away. Did some fasting and lots of exercise to purge me of that crap and within three months my muscles started growing, my daily automatic erection returns like in my thirties😂, my hair and skin quality and wound healing much better, I feel thirty again and easily ride 40k on my non electric mountain bike EVERY DAY, at essentially same speed I could at forty though I'm turning seventy next year. So yeah I'm fully convinced statins definitely lowered my life quality that whole decade, they essentially age you more rapidly. Good thing is stopping them you're able to recover within couple years with diet and exercise, and fasting..

I was started on rosuvastatin 10mgs in late July. I have been tried on simvastatin and atorvastatin in the past but suffered a lot of muscle pain. To be fair my GP was not really concerned about my cholesterol levels but was acting on the advice of a physician I had seen about AF. My cholesterol had risen over 2 years. I had lost 53 pounds and cut most carbs from my diet with no improvement. Hence the rosuvastatin. My cholesterol is now perfect but have leg weakness and pain and can't walk 30 yards. I stopped the rosuvastatin on the 11th October and am very slowly improving. For me quality of life over length. I am 75.

Well, did that while I was listening to your dissertation rant and now have to make the decision about what to do. I'm 74, soon to be 75. My knees have started to hurt for no reason that I can discern, and I have an uncharacteristic severe lack of energy that I am constantly pushing against. I've already done the heart attack/surgery thing once and do not want to have to battle my way back from that again. So, I guess its a chat with my GP. Three months later they checked and I was fine. He wanted me to stay on the meds a “year” as a precaution. A nurse reviewed my meds and told me you don’t want to be on these any longer than necessary as they may induce diabetes. Not only this but this cardiologist who wanted me on them refused to renew the scripts saying my GP needed to do it????? So I went in to her put the meds on the table and said if I don’t “need” these to live I don’t want them. She did bloodwork and said you don’t need them. I had NO other symptoms or plaque but my family has a history of diabetes. The thought that he would put me on these meds for a year and risk that for no good medical reason.

Commenting from Aus, i developed an irregular heartbeat three years ago my GP sent me to a cardiologist who found out I also had a bicuspid valve, which you are born with and an a aneurysm in my aorta which , I was told, is common in weight lifters which I was in my youth. I was prescribed blood thinners a beta blocker and a statin, being Crestor. Every time I visited my GP I would complain about discomfort in my chest and a lack of energy, I told him I just couldn’t get going until after lunch, I would just sit there with my head down thinking my once busy outdoor physical lifestyle was over. I started experimenting by stopping different meds for a day or two at a time but nothing changed but then I remember seeing the vids on statins so I gave that a go and within a day or two at the most I was back working in the garden till ten or eleven AM have a break then back into it. It all made sense, I was always fine when I got up but started feeling bad after breakfast, this made me think that breakfast wasn’t agreeing with me but I always took my Meds after food. Because I knocked the Statins on the head I felt great so I resided to get my weight under control so I gave up all processed carbs and started intermittent fasting, which I heard about from these great doctors. I’ve now lost twenty five KG in four months my cholesterol has gone up and my doctor was shocked with the loss of weight, thinking I was sick or something, but when I told him what I was doing he said that we can have another look in six months. I’m now eighty nine KGs which I haven’t weighed for over ten years and I also know why I have lost so much muscle in my arms. Realizing the magnitude of the adverse effects profile that I was accumulating gradually under medical supervision over the past twenty-five years, associated with taking increasing doses of several statin drugs (with six different doctors through those years insisting that this was necessary) I finally became desperate to see the 'evidence' that they were basing this insistence on. When asked, they were unable to give me credible citations of papers that were scientific support. They gave me opinions. This lack of scientific intent alarmed me. My symptoms were becoming not only painful, but debilitating. I had to take Ibuprofen all the time just to keep from grinding my teeth in the pain levels, and I could barely walk two blocks at much reduced pace than my friends walked easily. I could only average 4 hours sleep. I had 'brain fog' frequently, and could not drink coffee or eat a single chocolate chip without eliciting full body muscle fasciculations. Still my doctors could find nothing 'wrong', except weight gain and high LDL. I finally did not accept their apparent lack of intent to investigate, but only insisting I would have a heart attack or stroke if I stopped taking the statins, just for a couple of months to see if it were possible that I was having drug induced adverse reactions. They finally did imaging of my back, finding the development of lumbar stenosis, which said was the cause of all of my pain, and would need to consult a neurosurgeon to clean out the stenosis. My skepticism at their seeming lack of adequate concern for so many years, led me to tell them that I was going to quit the statins to test if they were causative. They said not to quit, but to cut to one half dosage. This did not improve symptoms, Next they said cut to one tenth dose, which did not alter the pains. I took my own personal initiative finally, and dove into Pubmed literature myself. I quickly came onto six seemingly high quality studies that indicated that the very symptoms I had been enduring, were often indicated to be associated with high percentages of people taking the statins. Not only that, but when I searched for statin supportive research, it seemed very biased against using the whole scientific methodology to substantiate apparent opinions. I stopped the drugs, and in only two months 90% of my pains were GONE, other symptoms, such as the sleep duration began steadily improving too. This realization that the current medical paradigm was just not being adequate to accurately assessing the current literature effectively, and apparently censoring it in effect without adequate support for the efficacies claimed. shocked me deeply. I realized the magnitude of the implications across society, and dedicated most of my available 'free' time to further clarify the issues pointed out in this current video heroically produced in the face of the current medical paradigm being so 'captured' by the 'profit at any cost' domination of regulatory oversight. Now, this is all my personal opinion, after years of study, w/o any qualifying salad of letters after my name, but it is now becoming clear that there are a number of doctors that are still dedicated to form a community of concerned people to try to correct these failings of the current medical paradigm. Thank you!

I injured my foot and got a big bruise that went septic they cut off part of my foot but it was still infected so they cut off my leg below the knee. With the infection and being septic causes hart problems and other organs severe problems they gave me some pills for nerve pain I really didn’t have any nerve pain but the drug to make the problem I didn’t have caused weird dreams and suicidal thoughts which in 67 years I’ve never experienced anything like that. I couldn’t sleep so after trying to calm down I started reading up on the stuff they had given me first I throughout the nerve pills. Next I found some of the shows you were talking about with the satins I was quite strong when I left the hospital but in the next month I had lost a couple of inches in the size of my good leg my neuropathy was terrible I was having more and more memory problems Years ago I was in a bad car wreck it messed up my neck really badly and I ended up with neuropathy and after about a month I lost my short term memory I had to carry a notebook with me and write down everything I was doing because I couldn’t remember anything over a few seconds when it hit me one of my doctors handed me a paper and I read the story and laying the paper on the table I was ask about the story I had no idea but I remembered laying the paper down I seen me do it but I had no idea what is said. This lasted about 5 years before I started getting where I could remember things and most of the neuropathy was gone. Now they put me on drugs that cause all the things I’ve been trying to get over for years like the neuropathy they tell me it’s from diabetes but it was almost gone after a few weeks in the hospital it was probably 50 times worth an I’ve ever had it now they also put me on beta blockers which keeps your pulse between 60-70 beets a minute no matter what you do my blood pressure went to 140 and higher guess what I found out what the symptoms of low B12 are Neuropathy guess what satins and Beta Blockers do they block B vitamins from working so Neuropathy no energy can’t sleep som really nasty dreams B1 is also low. So I ran out of some of my prescriptions and I just quit the others I’m still taking the insulin at night I’m not sure if it’s doing anything but it’s not causing anything really bad. Now I have a glucose monitor stuck to my arm I still take an insulin injection at night I really don’t see if it’s doing much they took me off of my other insulin completely and I’ve stoped taking everything else. I do take most of the time magnesium glycolate,B12, (B6 or P-5-P) a B Complex, D3+K2 and sometimes vitamin E. Now in the last 3 week my head has cleared up a lot my neuropathy is almost completely gone I have a little tingling in my little fingers and a little in the bottom of my good foot I’ve put on a little weight on my good leg and gotten a lot of strength back also after quitting my blood pressure is going on the sys from 97-119/75-86 my pulse goes from 60-99 I’ve never seen it over 99 and that was while I was using a stair climber exercise machine. A week after going off the meds my blood pressure was 131/80 the lowest it had been in 6 months the nurse scolded me and told me I had to take these meds the rest of my like or else well that helped my blood pressure went to 177 it took me most of the night to get calmed down the blood thinners the doctor who cut off my leg gave me a bottle of them it says take after hip replacement for 90 days when I ask him about them he gave me a couple packs of samples and said to take these and finish up the bottle and I shouldn’t need them anymore after that bet since the nurse new so much and had such a fit my hart doctor prescribed me some baby aspirin I did take on last week. They also gave me some heavy pain pills when I got out I did take 1 maybe 2 but that was it. I found out years ago if you take Magnesium, D3 and B12 I usually take 3 of each in about 15-20 minutes all of my aikes and pains are gone and I can go to sleep with no side affects also if I’m feeling really tired or bad I will take a little L-Glutamine and Creatinine I have a regular plastic spoon in each bottle and I just use about a 1/4 of a spoonful of each in a drink like an instant breakfast about 5 years ago they said I had a heart attack every time I went to the doctor they would connect me and do an EKG after doing this for around 6 months they quit and said there was no sign that I had had a heart attack. After losing my leg they gave me all kinds of hart and stress test all I’ve seen in the reports is everything is working fine one side of my hart is a little thicker and I wore a hart monitor for a week a couple of times I was carrying some heavy stuff up some stairs my hart beet fast a couple of times for less than 30 seconds and for that my doctor wants me on Valsartan 40 mg,Metoprolol succ er 25 mg, Atorvastatin 20 mg(Lipitor) and a baby aspirin. I really don’t think so my head is clear I can watch RU-vid stuff I can make long winded comments I can actually walk with my fake leg I also play the harmonica, Recorders Tin Whistle’s and have started learning the Ocarina I also have a flute I’ve been trying to learn but having trouble with holding my lips just right to make it sound. Now here’s the interesting thing I have a glucose monitor stuck to my arm when my blood sugar is 250-300 I will play music all night long I play by ear but one of my favorite things is to play along with people on RU-vid the tin whistle and Irish music is good because most is in the key of D just in case you want a new hobby. Now here’s the interesting part when my blood sugar drops to around 170 I start having trouble playing anything if it’s below 150 sometimes I can play a few thing that I’ve been playing for years but it’s really hard I’m getting a little drifty my blood sugar is running at 115 mg/dl right now and it’s still dropping but this is supposed to be normal. Have you ever seen the computer geeks with there 32 and 64 oz sugar and high caffeine drinks righting programs working all night long I use to do that I even got a couple of them published in magazines and I was even the editor of one of the not so close to home computer clubs now that was fun but when my blood sugar gets below 100 I have a hard time even watching RU-vid. And here’s another interesting thing I’m off the grid and trying to do the keyto diet I will sometimes eat 2 meals a day most of the time just one I don’t use sugar at all anymore sometimes I will a few drops of flavored stevia drops in my water but after not eating for 10 to 12 hours my blood sugar will go from 100 up to 250 sometimes even 300 I’ve found out that when it starts going up if I eat it will keep it from going to high I hate it when the alarms starts going off for high sugar and I haven’t eaten anything for hours I always thought that if you didn’t eat your blood sugar would stay low but not for me I’ve found I have to eat more often to keep it lower when I went to the diabetes clinic yesterday and they downloaded all of my data from my monitor they said yes it does that. Isn’t it odd that they know that but it’s not something they will admit to unless you find out on your own maybe I should start my own web page I had one for a while then they cut me off so I went on to other things but it’s a pain to run around with only one leg but they’re making me a new one it fits a lot better and they said I’ll get it on the 17 th o well I guess I’ve rambled on long enough I hope somebody fond some of this interesting or even useful by for now my glucose meter gave up on me now and says try again in 10 minutes that’s not a good sign I had 115 at 7:24 pm it’s now 8:00 pm and it finely says I’m going up it’s 116 and I haven’t eaten or drank anything in the last 4 hours so I’m guessing I better eat because it seems to start climbing and doesn’t want to stop until, I do eat something am I the only weird one around. Any way read up on your meds and list everyone of the side effects your having before checking with your doctor some are very important they gave me Metforman about 10 years ago there were 35 side effect’s from taking to much of it I had 25 of them and my neighbor got upset and took me to the hospital after about 6 hours they got me stable and said well you can start taking it again but I wasn’t having any health problems before taking it I still have a couple of the side effects the worst one is emotional I’ll be just talking and burst out laughing or start crying and I’m not up set but I can’t stop or most of the time even talk for a while I think that was what bothered my friend is why they made me go to the hospital but as I said I haven’t taken it for around 10 years but that staid just for the fun of it I guess😢 ok I’m leaving for real 😳

My Dr. prescribed statin and I had sever muscle aches and flue like symptoms. I stopped taking, I went round after round with my Dr. tried a few times with the same side affects different statin drugs. I became diabetic. Started fasting and doing keto. I no longer need metformin. My Dr still insisting that even a little bit of the statin will help me. Drs wonder why we are losing trust.

I have been following a long time. With you and others I have stopped my husband from using statins. I have not found anyone in this town who is not locked into all the standards. I had one but she left. The next town is 350 miles away. Most Drs here are rent a docs and are only here 3-4 months. I have an autoimmune problem and carnivore is the best solution. I got my husband from A1C of 10 to 5.1 with diet not with what they wanted. I thought it would be helpful if the Dr gave him a CGM but because I fixed him he was told Medicare wouldn’t approve it. I want him to see the food/drinking chooses would do to him. Thank you for spreading reality. I pass on links to your podcasts. I see poor information on poster all over drs offices and waiting rooms. I sent $25 through PayPal.

25 years ago they put me on Lipitor and my liver enzymes went sky high. Doc mentioned something about necrosis and never go on them again. Yet every Doc I go to, tries to get me back on Statins. Statins cause women dementia, bone and muscle loss, (did they ever tell you that?) It really makes me lose faith in the medical community. I mean the Doctor cutting my jugular during the removal of 2 of my parathyroids and my Primary care Doc letting my parathyroid rage for years (coma high blood calcium levels) while I lost my teeth and bones did not help either. Thank God for Dr. Berry, Chaffee, Cywes and others, that have helped restore some of my faith.

Please, please, please, be clear when you are quoting risk percentages if you are quoting absolute or relative risk. The public MUST understand the difference.

What is the difference?
@danvdr
@danvdr Год назад
Absolute: the effect/outcome as a ration to the whole group. Relative: the effect/outcome difference between two groups. For example: You have two groups of 100 people, control group and study group. Let’s say the study is to see if a drug drops heart attacks. At the end of the study let’s say that the control group had 3 heart attacks and the study group had 2. The absolute risk reduction was 1% (1 person less in the study group had a heart attack; 1/100 = 1%). The relative risk was 33%; looking at the outcome, there were 1/3 fewer heart attacks in the study group. Relative risk is a valid way of looking at results, but you have to know the total number-doesn’t matter if the total number in each group is 100 or 1,000,000; the relative risk will be the same, but the absolute risk is going to be a lot different. Relative risk is usually much more dramatic, so that’s what gets used, and then misunderstood, in marketing campaigns.

Had Covid, at the tail end suffered a fib (first time ever) and ended up in hospital. Since then have lost 45 pounds with IF. Sustained for two years. Moves to Keto for health benefits and finishing off last 20 pounds. No Afib since hospital. My BP is now 138/75ish highest usually much less. Now (even though all my cholesterol numbers went to normal except one-went down 5 points and is still considered high). Suddenly I am prescribed statins. Took them for a week but didn’t feel right about it. Checked my lipid tests. Saw trends, decided on my own, to stop statin. Waiting for yearly lipid draw and appointment. Maybe I will eat crow. I don’t think so.
