Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas - www.stuartcove...
Katy and I catch up on some well deserved and much needed sleep while in Coral Harbor. Our hosts for the week at our temporary, sheltered home, welcome us like family along with the other cruisers we were surround by. Our common goal is seeking safe harbor from the howling Atlantic Ocean just a few miles to the northeast. We go for a run, find a beach on the protected (lee) side of the island and get to know our host Carolyn and Nick's dog, Jager.
The time passes by quickly and every day we watched the dive boats leave and return to Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas across the canal. We decided before we sail away from our little getaway, to go out on a snorkeling trip with them and we are so happy we did! They take us to a coral reef, the Ocean Atlas, a giant statue of a lady holding the weight of the worlds oceans on her shoulders, and to The Bahama Mama, a party ship intentionally sunk in 1995 on the south western side of New Providence Island, Bahamas. The ship is submerged in 50' of water and is now an artificial coral reef, home to many reef sharks and other schools of deep water fish, and a diving hot spot for people visiting Nassau, Bahamas.
With the weather calming down, we decided it was time to once again scratch the itch of going sailing and having a new backyard, so we shove off and set a course for Norman's Cay, Exumas. We start out in a fresh breeze (20 - 25 knots) from the northeast, sailing upwind at around 55 degrees apparent, and quickly decide that the weather is building. With two reefs in the mainsail, a full staysail, and a reefed jib, Seawind charges to weather. Another boat takes some awesome footage of us as they pass by!!
We start up our Katadyn Powersurvivor 40e desalinator for the first time. Making our own fresh water out of saltwater is such an amazing feeling! We enjoy a beautiful island beach all to ourselves to top it all off.
