The 45-70 Gov't (a bullet designed just to kill buffalo efficiently in one shot) is fucking insane. Obviously, there are bigger / nastier bullets now, but it was insane for the time - stronger than anything else that wasn't a cannon or mounted gun for siege warfare. Also, A lot of people don't appreciate just how insane early sharpshooters were or how much harder it was to be accurate at distance. They had heavy-hitting bullets, but they were slow / lost energy fast, and so had a shitty flight path / trajectory. The bullets dropped so quickly, they had to aim up into the air above the target with things like veneer sights.

You may be a tad confused though - there are 4 bore rifles (among the biggest small arms) for stopping dangerous game like elephants, and then punt guns (0-4 gauge shotguns) for shooting flocks out of the sky but which need mounted - usually to a boat. Stopping guns would have been more powerful that 45-70, but never in "production" or used on people.

@@freethinker3716 45-70 lever action is a fucking Western chad rifle, but what's funny is that some 45-70 rounds have rounded tips, others have pointy tips. When using a lever action, the rounds are tip-to-primer in the tube. This means when someone who doesn't know better loads certain 45-70s (pointy) into a lever action, the tip of one bullet slams into the primer of the next detonates the entire tube and explodes lol.

In the UK we have free healthcare, but don't be fooled that it's magically free. They take a chunk of our wage each month towards the NHS. So it's not a huge difference to the US, aside from we don't have any choice. My doctor's office has a call centre where they go through a checklist, if you don't answer the right questions you can't see the doctor. They just wont book you an appointment. They'll say go to the chemist or search online. So although I love our healthcare in a sense, it's not all that great.

In Australia we get taxed, but I can walk into a general practitioner for any reason absolutely free. If i need to go to a specialist the gp writes a note and then the specialist is free. If it's not free you pay and then get a rebate afterwards. The end price of our healthcare is so much lower since we don't have insurance companies driving the price up.

Of course government-provided services are partially paid by income tax. The problem in the US isn’t that we literally just want free healthcare. The problem is that we don’t want private business to control survival, just like we don’t want private business to control fires. We have firefighters, knowing that part of income tax pays for them, knowing that it would be much worse if firefighters were privatized. Same with medical health.

I’m an American and I don’t want single payer healthcare. Almost all jobs provide health insurance and you can visit a doctor for a $40 copay. Really not that big of a deal.

The truth is those universal insurance systems are cheaper per Capita due to efficiency. How many billions of dollars are wasted by hiring people across the industry in the US just having to deal with the complexities of juggling dozens of different insurance payers?

I still find it crazy that some people think a national healthcare system is anything but the perfect thing for a country to have. I spent 6 weeks in a coma and nearly 2 full months in ICU here in England and didn't have to pay anything, or have my family having to worry about hospital bills rather than just worrying about whether or not i lived. Obama tried to introduce a national health service but the worst thing he did was name it after himself as it annoys anyone who doesn't support him and his political party, it's called the NHS here and isn't named after a certain politician who is wanting the plaudits for years to come.

A lot of these countries would lose their free health care if the US would stop being the worlds police and force these countries to spend their own money on national defense instead of leaving American taxpayers to pay the bill. On the flip side Americans would be able to get free health care if we cut down on the ridiculous amount of money we’re spending on the military industrial complex and leave all these countries to fend for themselves.

Yeah but I imagine the idea is to discourage companies from trading in personal data, if it actually costs them to do it

You don’t like waiting in line for the dmv, or for any regulation that gets in the way for whatever endeavor. Imagine what free healthcare would do to the system? Healthcare needs to be directed to the people that need it. Lots of dumb people roam the world, it will be more dumb if we bring healthcare to a wide public sector.
