Mike and Jeannie... Just seeing those smiles warms the heart! Deep sighs of relief all round. Enjoyed the fresh tour. Glad to see the original windows are still intact and nobody got at them with the vinyl, thank goodness! It's a beautiful house even before any work being done. I'm sure it will be a real pleasure to get moved in, relax a little bit finally, and to start deciding what to do first. Congratulations again, and we're very much looking forward to following you on your adventure. Marian 🇨🇦
Today I have spent 3 hours removing old paint form a pretty long windowsill. I used an iron, a piece of paper and a scraper. Having cleaned the last portion I got dead tired, this job made me completely emotionally exhausted. I congratulate you on buying a house to restore. I envy and admire your enthusiasm. Really :)
Yes, the Master Bedroom is a perfect example of what the rest of the house once looked like. Gives you an idea of what the rest will look like once the paint is removed.
I just had to pop back in and say how amazing it is to see the rooms without the furniture, what a difference! Also, I really enjoyed your tours of historic places and spaces, I wouldn’t mind at all of those types of videos continued in the future too!
That stove in the kitchen is a 1960’s appliance. My mother had one just like it. Your house reminds me of my grandmother’s house, which had 12 ft. ceilings, big tall windows, central hallway, a porch that at some point was enclosed, tiny kitchen and multiple fireplaces. Those fireplaces had inserts to accommodate oil heaters. The living room fireplace had a coal grate. The bedrooms had wardrobes for clothes. There was a deep front porch across the house where lots of visiting went on in the nicer weather months. That house was built probably about 1915.
Glad you finally got everything wrapped up and closed. Almost everything in your house is typical of the time period. All the woodwork and built-ins were readily available from the hardware store and lumber yard of the day. You are lucky to still have most all the original fabric of the house, no horrible remodels over the years. I just restored a Kentucky 1786 two story stone house and moved/added on a 1799 two story log cabin. It only took seven years. Ha!
Imagine trying to heat and cool that monster. Tall ceilings, single pane glass, ...whew. Then add all the modern conveniences that plug in somewhere, into iffy, aged wiring... People have no idea. But the house is beautiful, as built.
I love Victorian homes! Grass Valley, CA Eureka, CA & Nevada City, CA has gorgeous Victorian houses! My bucket list is to one day own a Victorian house!
I’m sooooo happy and excited for you two. You both have kept smiling throughout the test of time. Congratulations on the new grand adventure. I for one can’t hardly wait for the restoration to begin. Since you have had so many setbacks, maybe you will have smooth sailing throughout the completion of the restoration. You definitely need a break. 👍👍🤞🙏🙏🙏🙋♀️
🎉🥂🍾🏠❗🇺🇸 Congratulations guys! I am so stoked for you! What an adorable ceremony your real estate agents had for you. Such a wonderful outcome for this outstanding house. I feel so happy for you both!
Hallelujah and congratulations! Your "new" house is well worth the wait. Had a couple of thoughts on the kitchen. You could probably get more info on the stove from the gentleman on Cavalcade of Food. He has a huge collection of old stoves and does use them. The other is to watch the thought provoking planning segment for the kitchen on Farmhouse Vernacular and the completed reveal. You'll realize you might have plenty of storage already. Both of these folks are fellow RU-vidrs. So glad y'all like unpainted wood. Some think it makes a house dark, but I think it gives it warmth and character. Such a shame to paint over beautiful wood. Oh, yes, one more thing. Surely there's a laundromat in Greenville. No need to wait on installing hookups in order to move in😌. Y'all enjoy yourselves!
Greenville is a long drive from the house. While there is a laundromat in the village, it looks a bit sketchy. We spent all day at the house today filming and planning the installation of the laundry and the video will be coming out soon!
Your house is a true treasure!! She’s in such great shape for her age! I can’t wait to see what you guys do to get her up to today’s standards and keep her original charm 😎
Congratulations! Your patience paid off and your smiles said it all. This is truly a magnificent house and thankfully has escaped most modern renovations, although I do like the 1950’s style kitchen and I installed something similar in my 1929 terraced house in England. I wish you all the best and am looking forward to seeing your lovely house being restored.
I am so happy to see this. The most exciting feeling. I am also in the process of closing my 1836 historic home and I cannot wait to start a new life with her.
Yipee so exciting! Thank you Mike and Jeannie for taking us along on this extraordinary journey. Lots to do lots to learn. Congratulations you are well on your way.
So excited for you both Mike and Jeanie! I have no A/C either --1898 house, but if I open a lot of the original wood windows, I get a nice breeze and the house cools down fabulously!
Congratulations! It's a beautiful old girl! I am so in love with these old houses. It's a treasure! I can't wait to see it done and i'm sure it will be an excellent work!
I love these home’s kitchens with their butlers pantries…. I would try to reno the kitchen as close to period as possible. I know there are appliances made to look old, but work like modern appliances, and use the pantry for storage. All you really need in the actual kitchen is what is used daily. Looking forward to seeing how you get her all fixed and looking better. What a gem 🥳💞🥰 Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊
Yes, i would leave the kitchen as it is, but put a little vintage color touch. Kitchen is for cooking, i dont mind having one friend come in the kitchen while im cooking. But seriously if im having guests for a meal, id like to use a warm cozy dining room in the cold and outside when its warm. No-one needs to see the mess i make.
Congratulations on this next step in the journey! Time to break out the Cooper's paint stripper (as seen on "2nd Empire Strikes Back" channel) and the tools! Those kitchen cabinets are pretty ubiquitous in 1940s-50s homes (or remodels of that era); I had similar ones in my 1925 Seattle bungalow, and that stove looks similar to one my family bought for our 1940 home in 1970...For me, I'd love to see at least a couple of working fireplaces (the ones on the second floor w/ the covers/plates may have had kerosene burners at one time), and the second floor (again, IMO) cries out for some vintage radiators and a boiler somewhere. Looking forward to the continuing adventures of "1834-now-1901 Restoration House"!
Congratulations from Maryland. Oh what a beautiful blessing to finally get the keys to the house. Very proud that you two were patient and held on through the various stages and drawbacks prior to settlement. I am certain the delays had to be a bit tiring for the both of you, but now you can relax just a little having the title to the house in your names. The excitement for us the viewers will be to see what plans you have in mind based on your style of living and within keeping the period of the home. I had thoughts of you not being able to open the drawer to the china cabinet, the humidity does makes wood swell and may get better once the lower level temps are lower. Best of Luck and I plan to continue to watch.
Congratulations you have been so patient which reminds me of my favourite saying good things come to those who wait.Lookinf foward to seeing more videos love from Australia
Congratulations, you got the house! I’ll be watching your progress with interest. I’d love to live in a beautiful old house but at our ages it’s not going to happen. I’ll live vicariously through you two! 👏🏻🥂
Congratulations. Thanks for sharing this slow and frustrating process with us. So happy you finally closed on your house ! Looking forward to great things to come in the future !
Oh Mike and Jeannie! I and so happy for you guys! Your (our) house is so beautiful! It brings tears to my eyes!!! I’m so happy that the closing FINALLY went through and you got the keys and can get in and admire all over all the things that you loved about it just as we did!! I can’t wait to see what you decide to do with it! Glad that it turned out that there was a space that will work well for a laundry room. For us the storage in the kitchen would have worked out just fine, ‘cause we’re not into cooking so much as you guys and there’s lots of extra space in the pantry. But again, I’m so thrilled for you and wish you many, many happy years together in that beautiful house! We’ll be enjoying it with you vicariously and so very much appreciate that you’re sharing it with all us RU-vidrs! Best, Jan
I thought houses from that era, when they had pine floor in a room, it meant there was likely carpet in there originally. Maybe the front room had the oak floor since it did not have carpet originally? House is gorgeous! I love it! Mine is from 1910, so I might look to your channel for ideas for my place. :)
Yay!!! I was so excited to see your video come up in my feed!!! It was worth the wait and l am very excited to follow along on this amazing home's restoration.👍🇨🇦😁 Congratulations!
I love the house. Congratulations 🎈 I have an 1858 Farmhouse and I stripped the kitchen back to its bare bones and have it unfitted, just like they would've back then, with antique furniture. The only modern appliance I have is the fridge but I'm hoping to find a double stacked ice box and have it converted into a fridge. I really hate modern appliances. Looking forward to seeing what you do 👍🏼
I am so thrilled for you both. The delays must have been so agonising but you got your beautiful house in the end. Here in the UK we do not have tin panels on the ceiling. I have seen it used a lot in the States. We also do not have the metal panels on the fireplaces (not to my knowledge). The downstairs and upper landing are huge spaces in their own right and I like the proportion of the rooms too. I am going to eagerly wait for all these exciting videos to start coming out. Congratulations Mike and Jeannie. You so deserve this house. It has been waiting a lot time for you to find it!
Congratulations! Good things are worth the wait and frustration! Loved seeing the house without furniture, the details were easy to see that way. Soo beautiful! Thank you for letting us share your joy! 🎉💖
My grandparents knew the owners if the wonderful house you purchased and I spent all my summers w my grandparents and visited here. Also went to estate sale there. So glad you have it know it will be beautiful and done w love. Congrats.
Hurray Hurray!!!!! Finally, so happy for you!!! Looking forward to seeing the house as you work on it. I enjoyed the tours of landmarks that you have done.
