I remember feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders as I navigated the complexities of an abusive relationship, often feeling a deep sense of isolation. I somehow found the courage to emerge from this darkness, and that's why we're here today, to candidly discuss surviving domestic violence. We delve into the fear and humiliation that often silences victims, the contrasting dynamics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and the transformative power of speaking out.
Our conversation is dedicated to shedding light on the harsh realities of domestic violence and providing useful resources for those who may be in need. We bring you invaluable insights from Harbor House, a beacon of hope in Orlando, Florida, serving victims of domestic violence. We discuss their commendable work, including providing legal assistance and the critical steps involved in filing for restraining orders. Our intention is to create a compassionate community, allowing survivors to share their experiences and inspire strength in others.

I’m a survivor. Emotionally, financially, psychologically physically abused. He stopped buying food when I was pregnant. He would eat at his mom’s house. I was not able to work legally in the US at that time. He wanted me to have an abortion and I didn’t so he filed for a divorce trying to scare me. I choose my child. Long story short I was bouncing around and ended up back at his house. I needed shelter. I was washing hair at a salon and I got LOTS of financial help from strangers because I didn’t have family close by. I am currently working with local government and my one and only daughter is in college. I bought my house on my own. Although we are not together I still feel abuse because he is a narcissist. He still owes me child support. And it goes on. I still cry when I remember some of the things I have been through. I get triggered when I hear others story.

I have been following you since we are both pregnant with our youngest babies back in 2019. I definitely hate you and your children had to experience domestic violence, but I'm soooo proud of you for leaving and taking back control of your life. You have taken a bad situation and made a safe space for you and others that maybe going through the same thing. I enjoy seeing your family's content. I am a single mother of two and you have definitely given me some GREAT advice during some time dark times I've had. Thank you sooo much and I wish nothing, but blessings for you and your children.

So glad I started listening to the podcast. When I went to get a restraining order against my ex, they didn’t consider anything other than physical violence. I was only granted the order because there was physical at one point. The judge was HORRIBLE.

Growing up, my mum got hit multiple times by my dad. He would hit her with anything he got his hands on. The only time he couldnt hit her is when i was around.... I remember this one time looking at my mother on the floor and i had to step in so that he could stop and he looked at me and asked me to move.... Whenever my dad was home i gave up playing with other kids so that i could shield her. Mum stayed because she wasnt finacially stable to take care of me and my sibling. She finally got the courage to leave. 15 yrs later i still remember it all but nobody ever talks about it, the damage it caused to my mum, me and my sibling..... Because we were just not allowed to. But when i do get a chance to share it with someone, i do.

I’ve never been in a domestic violence relationship but I have seen my sister survive it and my best friend was in a really toxic relationship like that where they thought physical fighting was okay on both sides so that was tough to watch and have an opinion on when it didn’t matter because they were going to stay together and then I was the bad guy. So I didn’t know what to do as a bystander watching.
