Sheer arrogance, a good leader listens to his men..your men admitted what he observed and you shun him of a sheer opportunity to make changes and improvise. Glad this is on the net..
No one is born to fight a battle well. We learn from our mistakes & improve the battle plan & execution. Most importantly the leader must get the men to feedback to him on the battlefield. The leader must make the decision fast & give clear orders to the men to overrun the enemy. To Lead, To Excel, To Overcome.
"Don't tell the Sect Comd what to do.." "Its not your fault, its not my fault...." From his replies, he has potential to hold Senior Command. Probably Chief of Army in 20 years, if he sign-on.
During my time, they had "special missions", which were meant either for cadets being assessed for government scholarships, or for cadets who needed remedial assessment. These were conducted near the end of field camp, when all the regular assessments had been done. Not sure how things are done these days.
Sometimes you don't have a clear view and are just shooting blindly in the rough direction the enemy is. So you have to advance to get a clearer shot. Notice when they got close, the assessors said "enemy is down".
"don't tell ur section commander what to do he says"... this guy will never become a leader worthy of leading. But definitely very good at wayanging :) sure can become high flyer if sign on!
Because the very basic Principle of Warfare is to gain ground and push your battle lines forward unless there is a strategic advantage holding on. Only when you overrun the line can you be sure that the enemy is neutralised.
Nice bro, btw do they see race an issue too when enlisting recruits in NDU or commandos? coz i notice all of them are chinese in NDu and some indians. Also NDu do you need NAFPA gold to o in or just silver? and the trianing in commando and NDU are they tough? if it is cna you explain more on what they do?
Yes, the section field camp is during Service Term so all Army cadets will go through it. I don't think failing this assessment is enough to OOC you, but fail enough and you may just do.
Recently there was this new directive being passed down about jungle hats, as long you are an instructor from any training institute (except for BMTC maybe, not sure about this), you are entitled to wear the jungle hat for training purposes only. This is to have a clear distinction between the instructors and cadets. In addition, to those who have earned their jungle hats due to vocation, they are not allowed to wear it around in camp, unless you are undergoing training.
Apart from those, there are various other appointments like Cadet Wing Commander, Cadet Wing2IC, Cadet Section Commander and School Appointment Holders.
rgding the camo comment, its a sign of how lax ocs, and indeed the whole SAF in general, has become. When i was in OCS, only 2 years ago mind you, not camoing my hands and neck would get me confinement.
Cut the chap some slack la. How well do we really know Weiqiang from a few minutes? I'm sure every one of us has been in his shoes b4. These guys are still learning to be leaders. Seeing and knowing your weakness is part of the learning.
Um, can anybody who have, is currently serving in NS, specifically, those who were assigned the Ultimax 100 LMG, or those who are working in ST Kinetics, tell me, when is the Ultimax 100 Mk8 entering Service?
Not bad for 2LT. But the lack of firepower as well as dexterity sure cost the section a huge toll. Stateside, Comms and Icom are neccesities in operations conducted in training. When we go downrange in A-Stan, tactics will not work well in mountains so there should always be a contingency plan.
man i remember this ex. from my ocs days. went through all 10 days perfectly. then on the last day, last mission, like an idiot and went and NDed (negligent discharge). got me RCP (restriction of cadet priveleges) for 21 days. and a CROW. 2 CROWS and i would have OOCed. Luckily for me, i bucked up after.
Hi cyberpioneertv, i was just wondering what is the rank called when there are 2 white bars and a sergeant rank on the top, is there any place that i can know more of the rank in OCS?
NDU perfect eyesight. Commando they have a bit of allowance with regards to eyesight now. i think 200 degrees max? PES A. I think PES B1L1 can also get the commando vocational assessment letter (thats what happened to my friend). The assessment involves a few IPPT stations and an interview (to check your interest). once you pass the above, then it'll be the training that see who makes it through and pass out. source: my friends who received the vocational assessment letter.
Cyberpioneer, can you please advise me if all the instructors are sniper-trained, recce-trained or commandos? I happen to be one of the above and it was with great pride when we pass our training to be able to wear jungle hats. Fyi, when I was in army, instructors who were not qualified only wore jockey caps.
Precisely, a good officer will learn to accept his soldier's observation and perspective. In the field, the soldier and commander may have differing points of view, thus they must share their perspectives in order to understand the full picture and come up with a good strategy. As a cadet leader, he should explore every possible tactic that can be used before he leads his section into the field. Then he would have noticed the high ground and gained tactical advantage. Same for his formation.
well, if they have an overwhelming number of interested recruits, then maybe NAPFA results will be used as a criteria. out of so many letters sent, they'll only accept a number (not too sure how many, but NDU lesser than Commando) for the training course. Well, these are our army's special forces. So it'll definitely be tough. It'll test your mental strength / endurance because physical fitness is something everyone there should have already.
Memories of my section mission 20 over yrs ago on Tekong still vivid in my mind...it was a section day ambush....and of coz all the casevac, sand models, bla bla bla...
Thats why this is a Training. You make mistakes here. So no point crucifying the lad. Everybody panics the first time. Even great military leaders like Napoleon makes mistakes. The only thing i have to add to this is that the section sticks too close too each other. In the Day, a 3-5m gap is the best in order to reduce section exposure and makes it easier to flank and envelop~
ah.. the race issue is a sensitive one. i believe the government denies that it is a criteria in terms of how they allocate us to different vocations but many people believe otherwise. i'm not too sure about NAPFA results, but I'm quite sure that as long as you meet the above criteria, the vocational assessment letter will come to you. Well my friend has a classmate who failed NAPFA but received the commando letter.
lol i dont believe so. theyre quite common sense and shared across armies. Its more about how you use those principles to your advantage and more about the commander himself rather than the words. The words are not going to govern how fast you react.
A leader should encourage his platoon to come up with different points of view to effectively solve a problem. Found it rather distasteful that he rejected his platoonmate's observation without even thinking it through.
nt their fault n nt his fault then whose fault ? tsk tsk what a great sec-comd~ think if he sign on sure got "potential" to become high flyer cause of the things he say, who agree KI CHIU ?
I'd assume that you meant I'd be a good parent and nice person, who am I to predict? Someone who have served under many officers and warrant officers and recognize a true leader when I see one, good day.
These are the outspoken, well educated actors of ocs.. They speak with great language proficiency skils, will talk well and carry balls, act garang, pretend to be great leaders, show all the big ranks that they have natural born leadership skills and bravery. Cheers to all the men.. They are the boorish, uncouth and vulgar ones but they will be the ones who will shoulder all the 5.56 rounds, mortar shells, whatever type of destruction u can think of with their lives when u need them to.
can everybody stop hating on officers and cadets? These guys are in the beginning of OCS. for gods sake their not even halfway through service term. Before centipede, you havnt learnt shit. So obviously mistakes will be made. OCS is a place to make mistakes anyways. Although I agree with the general consensus that that particular cadet has a rather bad attitude. But maybe he OOC'ed?
Although you are entitled to your own point of view, my view is that your opinion is ridiculous. Besides, who are you to predict what this soldier is going to be? He's still very young in his development. I can tell what kind of parent you will be or what kind of person you are.
OMG... clustering together??? contact prone delayed... die.... then yet again.. could it be movements supposed to be slower for sake of camera? so unreal....
Yeah... That's the problem with armchair critics. They don't understand what it's like to be out there, trying things out for the first time. These guys were great recruits and that's why they made it to OCS, but in OCS, they are still freshies, learning new skills. Bound to make mistakes.
