So, how much fuel can you use towing hard? What I mean is, if you can't use the extra fuel to pull a load more easily up a steep grade, what good are bigger in jectors for towing? My whole goal for bigger injectors would be to tow better. I don't care anything about racing my OBS...I just want to tow more effortlessly (hold speed without downshifting) without compromising reliability.
Hard to answer that, but on a great setup 1) at sea level 2) Intercooled 3) Turbo that maintains a broad power band (like a KC Stage 1 or s364.5) 4) able to maintain ICP & Fuel Pressure Etc 140ccs is actually usable. There are a lot of variables, but generally you can not maintain 350+hp and keep the truck cool.
@@1023DieselFleet Thanks so much. You know, there's lots of talk about "power" that seems to be driven by the modern idea that a diesel truck is supposed to be some sort of daily-driven sports car. For me, a diesel truck is primarily for towing. My dream truck is a diesel that can tow a heavy trailer up a long mountain pass without losing speed, needing to downshift, or getting hot -- and will last a million miles. On my OBS, I am still running stock injectors...yes, the little ~90cc injectors. But since playing with different tunes on my hydra and installing a KC Stock Plus turbo, I have been surprised by how much better the truck tows. Not more fuel, but burning the fuel I have more efficiently. Certainly nothing like modern trucks, but I love finding ways to make a truck tow better by improving efficiency, because it also seems to add longevity. Love your channel, great content!
