I have always been amazed how a province of 920,000 citizens could build such an extensive network of freeways in twenty-five years. Way to go, New Brunswick! Your province is doing something right!

Thank you for the great and informative video! Saint John is a fascinating city, and would love to see more of the Maritime provinces in general.

I live in a city of 90k, this city has 70k. My city has 3 tiny skyscrapers, about 8-11 floors each. This city has many apartment buildings, despite being smaller. Guess that's the difference between country Victoria (the Aus state) and NB. Nice drive anyways, I ranted a bit there.

Nice video. I've never driven the 1 but I will be headed down that way this weekend. Quick correction, though: St. John was never the largest city by population in British North Amerca. Maybe in Canada, but New York has been the most populous since about the mid-eighteenth century.

Thanks, it's a nice drive. The highway is well maintained. As for the population thing, that was in 1851. The U.S. colonies were no longer under British control. So St. John was the largest city in Canada and the rest of North America not including the colonies and anywhere not under British control. Not sure how long the city held that status though.

Ah, sorry I was confused lol. Before the American colonies became the US, "British North America" referred to the whole continent. I guess I wasn't paying attention to dates, my bad :P

Cool video! Amazing how quickly you go through cities up there!

Cities in the Maritimes are tiny for the most part. The largest city in NB has about 140,000 people.
@beepbeepme50
@beepbeepme50 8 лет назад
Wow. That's a cool fact. I always thought the cities up there were a good size.

Saint John in particular is built like a much bigger city due to it having once been the third largest city in Canada. It also seem smaller due to the way the highway passes through land that can't be developed due to terrain and the fact that this video doesn't include the large suburbs of Rothesay and Quispamsis.

St John Harbour Bridge was not completed until 1967. It did not open in 1961.

Are the Canadian Speed limits in Km? Because 100mph seems too much.

+PixelFox pretty such every other country on earth use the metric system except for the United States, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Somalia and Indonesia. These countries use the old imperial system,
@MrYukew

+Brenden Anderson Indonesia use metric system, not imperial. I know that because i live there.

I believe Burma, United States and Liberia are the only non metric countries, though the UK still uses imperial measurements on roadways.

You should film the following highways like: Route 7 (Welsford Bypass) Route 8 (Marysville Bypass) and Route 11 (Caraquet Bypass).

At 2:43, do you nea Uptown Saint John? It's on a hill and higher than a throughway.

45 MPH on the highway? we can't even get them to do that on the street... anyway nice video. I love how Canadian Highways look just like Interstates in America.

a very enjoyable drive, and a very high quality highway. Are you using your camera outdoors too?
@FreewayTim
@FreewayTim 8 лет назад
Yes, I'm using a RAM mount outside on my windshield. Never have any dirty windshield or glare issues. I haven't even had a bug splatter while filming yet :)
@TransCanadaPhil
@TransCanadaPhil 8 лет назад
+Freeway Tim I often get the bug splatter issue with the outdoor camera. I've ruined a few recording sessions due to it unfortunately, but you're right, the trade off of having a nice glare free windshield free shot makes the risk worth it. I can tell you must be doing a similar thing as myself as your camera angle looks similar; nicely centered up high in the middle of the windshield, lens looking perfectly straight forward.

You serious ? Your freeway are better than the Europe ones but you are limited at 90-110 km/h ? They could put speed at 130 at least !

@FreewayTim
@FreewayTim 8 лет назад
In NB most highways are limited to 110km/h. But around cities it varies from 70 to 100km/h. You're right though you can "safely" go 130+ on most roads.
