Sperate smaller stash from larger is a good tactic too. But one thing that is not mentioned too much by these people is the assumption of criminals. Keep in mind the government is the biggest criminals. You need to hide it from them too. Government has an upper hand on criminals. They have tracking of metals ira etc. Buy silver gold with cash from dealer that don't have you personal info. Don't believe me? Look at what the feds did to gold during the Great depression. They stole people's gold.

If I may add, as a firefighter, we’ve found that gun safes are best stored (hidden/ sheet draped) in the furthest corner of your garage. It’s less hot during a fire and normally the first areas we hit for entry. Thanks
@mytuberforyou
@mytuberforyou 9 месяцев назад
You're also putting the safe where it can ber conveniently loaded into a truck bed or van if you do this and behind the least hardened door in the place, which is why you guys use it for your entry point. IMO the best strategy is a floor safe buried in your basement slab (for precious metals) and a decoy safe in your master bedroom closet for thieves to take, or waste their time on.
@Eli-qr9hc
@Eli-qr9hc 9 месяцев назад
@@mytuberforyou lots of people don’t have a basement, but keeping it in an unseen location in your garage bolted to the floor works well
@mytuberforyou
@mytuberforyou 9 месяцев назад
@@Eli-qr9hc Everybody has a basement or a floor slab unless they live in a house with a dirt floor in which case they likely don't have mucgh worth preotecting but even then burying it in the floor is probably the most secure location. A floor safe has a bunch of advantages including thermal protection and it can be only attacked from its most secure side, gun safes as mentioned above are typically only 1/8" or 3/16" mild steel on the sides and back and can be sliced open with a carbide tipped saw blade like they were butter. My own gun safe in my vault room has a bunch of shelving built in place around it and is bolted to the floor and back wall, so the back and sides are protected from attack. I also only keep guins in it, I don't keep cash, metals, or jewelry in it. Gun safes are not secure at all, and even a TL-30 rated safe can be compromised in minutes if the tools are available, I have such tools (oxyfuel torches, cutting saws, plasma cutter etc.) in my house so it is doubly critical for me that my actual safes are concealed where they will not be found. Floor safes are a great option and if you don't need refgular access they can even be covered with a material like tile. No crooks are going to demo a tile floor looking for a safwe they don't even know is there. But they will shake the gallons of paint on your paint shelf to see if one of them rattles if they think you have valuables stashed in your house.

@mytuberforyou
@mytuberforyou 9 месяцев назад
@@nero_palmire yeah, but the "average joe" doesn't have anything worth stealing. Precious metals stackers, gun collectors, watch collectors, and Gem traders are in a different ctegory and there are a lot of operational security errors that can be made, especially if you have a RU-vid channel. For example "Long Island Watch" has his address listed in the wrong town even, but I saw one of his videos where I RECOGNIZED HIS BUILDING SIGNAGE because my buddy has a sopt in the adjacent strip that uses the exact same font and color door markings. So now, were I a criminal, I could target his specific warehouse unit number. Lots of times people leave EXIF data on pictures they post and can be geolocated, there are other ways as well. License plates, tail numbers on aircraft, visible mail, the list goes on.

What they didn't expect was to find that they needed a key to open every door in my flat. The only way out was through the hole in the broken window. Saw a show on tv about this and your number 1 protection at night is to have the outside of your home very well lit. With today's led spotlights it comes out to less than $40 electricity a year. As far as a large safe check on youtube. The front of a safe is thick steel and makes you think your good. The sides of a safe are thin and a battery powered rotary grinder can defeat them in under 3 minutes. Padlocks are also window dressing. Lost the key to my shed. I was struggling with a hacksaw for half an hour. Remembered I had a dremel with a little cutter wheel and it went through my padlock like butter.

If someone comes at night, if you weren't smart enough or unable to rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it, pick up the biggest painstick you can and fight as if your life depended on it, because it does.

My system is not perfect but it will dissuade all but the most committed from threatening my family.

I looked into protection and learned that I would probably be sued if the perpetrator had lived or had family. That’s if he were in my home and I was retreating to the furthest area from him. That’s not right. If anyone breaks into your house anyone in that home should have the right to end the intruder without fear of any repercussions. All for shooting the bad guys, but a battle rifle is probably not a good choice for home security unless there are no other people or animals in the house. That 7.62 NATO round could easily pass through the bad guy, through a wall, and hit your child right in the head. Besides, you're not shooting something 200 yards away and you're trying to maneuver your way through your house. Not that easy with a big rifle. .45 caliber Glock 21 or 41 would be my choice.

It's probably best to just accrue your collection of metals and things you don't need to constantly interact with in a safe deposit box, then when it's complete, dig a hole in your basement concrete floor, put a safe in that hole, and cover it with a thin layer of concrete. Finish the rest of the floor with leftover concrete. If you're collecting silver and gold, there's no need to constantly interact with it. Just imagine sleeping, knowing you've got bars and coins buried. Would feel great.

One thing about my house is that I have a carport instead of a garage. As unlikely as it might be, I noticed that if I was gone, it would be very easy for a crook to stand on my other car or a modestly length ladder and remove one of the wood panels that make up part of "the roof" of my carport. I have two cars and often leave in one, while the other is in the carport (one car carport). A baddie could stand up on car and with screw driver and or pry bar, could work lose one of those panels. The rest of my house is pretty solid with wifi security system, triple lock storm-rated doors (I live in gulf coast area), storm windows / sliding door supposedly resistant to crow bars (backed by glass break sensor of security system. It always bothered me that once accessed from outside, all a baddie would need do is, after peeling back insulation in attic, drop through sheet rock roof panel into the house. I do have two motion sensors, assuming everything works as it should. I was thinking that burglar having taken that step might want to keep being clever and look for attic door into house hallway. I've actually found replacement attic doors that have locks on them, though they can, as suggested, simply drop through flimsy ceiling panel. Just curious. Also curious about how good my two triple lock doors are. (Too late now, since I have them for three years!) The quality of the product and the company that installed them (and storm window and sliding door) were/are impeccable. But I read that doors are only as good as the door frame. I know they used much longer screws on these doors than the screws used on doors that came with original construction (1969). Interestingly, contractor said normally he'd be concerned about door weight of the side, carport door (90 lbs, due to thick-ass storm proof burglar resistant plexi glass plate in top 40% of door) being properly supported by some door frames, however, he was impressed by the "old pine" used in this older construction and how it took the longer screws better...or some such explanation. Anyway, sometimes at night I wonder if my triple locks would stand up any better to two two-hundred pound thugs getting a lunging start on my front porch and slamming into the before d escribed, high-quality doors. Any thoughts?

But what about us who live in apartments? I'm specifically thinking about fireproof: I won't be putting a huge bolted-down safe in here and the small ones are just obvious targets.

A few observations. First, not talking about your holdings or security plan with anybody that isn't 100% trusted is of utmost importance. Second, your dogs will be in extreme danger if a determined criminal learns of your holdings and targets you. Third, diversify holding areas so that if somebody does get the drop on you at gunpoint you can give up a small and largely fake stash. Fourth, most people now use home security cameras that have motion sensors that are tied into their home wi-fi network. If this is your plan be sure to cover the electrical panel area with cameras/detectors because even if cameras are battery powered the network probably isn't. Also, if your system pushes security notifications to your phone you need to get the outside (local) phone number to your local 911 call center and put it on speed dial on your phone. Calling 911 only gets you to 911 in the area where you are at and you will need your home 911 should there be a break-in in progress. Fifth, as a general rule get the best safe you can afford and hide it in a confined area where you can bolt it down. Any safe can be defeated by criminals with tools and time. Having it in a tight space makes it harder to defeat with hammers and pry bars. Finally, if you travel with cash or valuables be aware of civil asset forfeiture laws and never tell police what you have. Always have your things well hidden in vehicles.

First off, IF I have a safe it contains my small "surrender" stack of metals. Whether it is burglers, kidnappers or government agents that is what they get. The rest is much better concealed than in the safe. Lots of places to hide long term metal that you do not need to handle often. ie your long term wealth. Good security advisors can give you lots of tips but I won't give them here on the web as they would be useless for people I have helped in the past. One thing I will say is that if you use government issued metals, you might invest in RFID blocking containers as a start. And know the current technology on metal detectors as far as depth of reach for your type of metal. Also what type of area gives the metal detectors fits with false signals. And none of this works if you have to brag or show off your wealth, so you are the first key to protecting anything. Ever notice that old money folks are almost invisible when in areas not their social peers? They have a middle class wardrobe for visiting middle class areas! New money is all flash and bragging about how much they are winners. Thieves have another name for them--Targets!!!
