Fantastic video! Great content as always, but it's clear you also put a lot of extra work into the editing. I appreciate the attention to detail. The maps are really helpful. I could always google places, but I'm not likely to stop a video and try to figure out exactly where you are. So it's helpful that put them into the video, especially when you showed the two different routes you might take. I also like the moving text (like where you added, "weee!"). And nice choice of music. Good traveling music. The way you played with time was perfect. You sped it up at the right times and then showed enough real time. Lots of good camera angles and views. Split screens, etc. There was a lot in this video, and it was done in a way that was pleasing to watch. Honestly, I might watch it again.

Thank you for the kind words, Charles! This was the most time I've put into editing a video, and I kinda knew it wasn't going to do well by youtube standards, but I am also really happy with how it turned out. So many good memories to revisit! The next video isn't quite so happy, and the video after that is "the bad day", but even so, it's been really fun to look back. The trip home was an experience of a lifetime, and I'm really happy others like you are enjoying it with me. ^_^

Thank you for sharing this leg of the journey. Wonderful that you can live the "dream". By the way, suggest you give some "Love" for the little diesel. Other than when you tried to feed her contaminated fuel, she has performed well for you given she knows her days are numbered. Looking forward to your next leg. Regards.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 9 месяцев назад
Yanmar's reputation is well earned... If I was ever in a position to be stuck with a diesel, it'd be a Yanmar if I could choose it. However, as reliable as that little engine is, everything related to fueling and cooling it is still suspect and unreliable, I am finding. That said, my engine will find a new home, so her days aren't numbered, just in my boat they are.

As wee young person in the earlier 60s I watched game shows. One of the many companies sponsoring the Price Is Right or Let's Make A Deal was Oneida. You pronounce it Oh - Need - Ah. I checked. According to Google the correct pronunciation is consistent with the German version of the ei vowel combination which is what I recalled from about six decades ago. Oh - Nye - Dah. Cheers.
@TheDigitalMermaid

I've used both pronunciations, and been corrected in both directions. lol. I have no idea anymore...

@@TheDigitalMermaid Have you been to the city/county itself? Locals generally settle on a single production. (I grew up in Houston, Texas and I was astounded to learn that Houston street in NYC is pronounced like house.) Do you have statistics on statistics? I.e.. Are you corrected more for long o or long e? Any such observations should include geographical data to indicate if there is a trend.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 7 месяцев назад
@@curtislowe4577 I didn't make it to Oswego, so no, I've not been there. I originally said "Oh-sweh-go", and was corrected fairly often to "O-swee-go", so that's what I've settled on generally.

@@TheDigitalMermaid I just stumbled on the Oneida Community Christian Communist Free Live Cult of the second half of the 19th century. Freaky. But more to the point no one uses the long e pronunciation in any of the videos? Is the long e pronunciation a Canadian thing? There's a Canadian guitarist named Bachman. That is clearly a German surname. In Germany it would be Bock-mahn. Yet having grown up in Canada he pronounces it Back-men. Which gets back to my query on is there a clear geographical component to the people that insist the long e is correct? I was in England over a decade ago. It was truly eye (ear?) opening to hear correct English pronunciations of place names. The Brits have made entire syllables silent.

Very lucky that you didn’t blow the charger when starting, I have had multiple (non victron) chargers that I forgot that were connected and blew them clean out.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 9 месяцев назад
How do you mean, blow it?
@thomasdesloovere4200
@thomasdesloovere4200 9 месяцев назад
@@TheDigitalMermaid chargers are made to provide the rated current, when starting the battery voltage drops and currant peaks. When not properly protected (with for example inline choke that is installed in the charger) you can really easily blow the internal mosfets because of the extreme heat created by the large current. it this situation it wasn’t a problem but in won’t recommend to try to do it to mutch. Instead take a bit of time to charge the battery up and then disconnect the charger and then start the engine.
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 9 месяцев назад
My charger was set to a max output of 15A, so even if the starter pulled more (which of course it did), the charger itself would still only have contributed only 15A to the starter. Are you saying other chargers push beyond their rated output capacity when an engine turns over?
@thomasdesloovere4200
@thomasdesloovere4200 9 месяцев назад
@@TheDigitalMermaid yes because it was for a fraction of a second, the charger doesn’t have time to react and therefore overloads itself
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 9 месяцев назад
@@thomasdesloovere4200 Well, points to Victron then. I started the engine many times with the charger on and it was never an issue.

@@jepomer Ah!! Iwo Jima is one of the places I really, really want to see someday! Does moving from salt water to fresh pose any other/different issues?
@TheDigitalMermaid
@TheDigitalMermaid 9 месяцев назад
Yes! Nothing in the short term, really, but if you were moving from one to the other longer term, the things you worry about change. Electrics last longer around fresh water (less corrosion), but rot is a bigger concern because crap can live in fresh water (salt water kinda pickles your woods and stuff). You may want different bottom paints as well, given the different things that grow in fresh vs salt water.
