Thanks Jon. I'm new to this Nodal stuff...and couldn't figure out how you'd go about finding each lens point...you explained it as simply as i needed to understand. My gear is ordered and on it's way...interested to give it a go! 👌🏻📸

VERY helpful. Simple and straight forward. I just bought a Nodal Ninja head to do 360s with.

Great video ! at least some one explains properly with examples :) I personally never used such a nodal slide cuz mostly shoot vertical panoramas, i have L bracket and i keep my horizon straight, overlap 30% or even 50% and in most panorama blending software it stitches images perfectly. Maybe need bit of distortion correction but, when time is running of last light and you need to capture every second for me personally additional gear is just a clutter.

Depending on your scene this technique will work. When you start getting things closer to camera (say in your foreground) this is when having the nodal rail will be helpful.

I really struggle to even find an accessory like this. So strange that it is not more common. Manufacturers of tripods seem to just sell a flat, centered round plate, as if they do not understand this principle at all.. /:

💥 This explanation is so great, thank you. Two questions if I may, how do I determine how long of a rail to purchase and how did you get such vivid reflections of the buildings in the water with it being so windy and wavy.?? 🤟🏼

Hey, in regards to determining how big of a rail, like many things bigger is always better. As you can see in this video I'm right at the edge of the rail for this lens. In regards to the vivid reflections this is partly todo with the weather, in the video the ferry's have started but when I was shooting in the early hours of the morning there were no boats and the winds were only 3knts which would give us very smooth conditions. Mix this in with a longer shutter time, it smooths it out beautifully. Weather is the hardest thing when shooting because it's something we can't control.

Great video! If you calibrate a zoom lens do ypu need to adjust to every focal lenght?

Perhaps correcting the spelling in the title will get you more views.

What spelling is that? The world doesn't revolve around views.

@@Jonwrightphoto Kind of funny you couldn't spot your own spelling error 'Photrography'.

So... you go through all that trouble to create a perfect pano but don't use the camera in portrait mode while even having an l bracket installed.... could have much greater resolution...
@Jonwrightphoto
@Jonwrightphoto 3 года назад
So, you took all that time to comment but didn't watch the video to the end? You will see there is an L bracket installed all the way through the whole video, it is just finding the nodal point/no paralax point that I left it in landscape orientation. The image was captured with an L bracket, as you can see at the end!

I fear for your camera, the slide is too short!
@JonWrightphotography
@JonWrightphotography 2 года назад
HAHA, it's not too short but certainly wouldn't hurt to get a longer one for longer focal lengths.
