For the love of cricket, I know those in North America will struggle to understand our love of this game, but it really is entrenched in us and the best day's entertainment. It is a family tradition to travel to a Match every year with my son Sam and now deceased Dad, and has become a family and friends day out that I would not miss for a million bucks.A huge thank you to our good friend Marea for taking us into the members stand for the day, it was a welcome relief after many days of being locked in a bunny suit and respirator, and to sink a few coldies with your son is priceless. Cheers Guys Rossco.

It's not the Cricket, it's the false title! I don't object to maintenance, cricket, or much really(except libtards, can't stand 'em), but if you want to video your maintenance, make the video about maintenance! If you want to video your day at the "pitch", make the video about your "day at the pitch"! I wanted to see the process of making foam panels! You gave me LESS THAN 6 MINUTES IN A 20 MINUTE VIDEO! Not cool!

What foam and resin do you use? Looks like polystyrene but I'm told that you can't use polyester or vinly ester resin on PE foam.

Cricket - The US will NEVER understand it ! I am almost surprised that 1220mm x 2440mm (𝑜𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 "𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑑" 𝑠𝑖𝑧𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑎𝑚 𝑖𝑠) sheets of 'glass covered foam are not available directly from suppliers, although you would have to pay for the labor and you would want them to use your own "custom" laminating schedule.
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 лет назад
They are available in certain layups,certainly not the schedule I am working to. Most commercially available sheets are suited to ultra light performance or kit craft.The longevity of which is still debatable although you can always bung s few more layers on at the build end,which defeats the object in the first place.How many yachts I see with massive dents from bumps and knock from wharves other boats etc says to me that yep there light and no ,they are simply not strong enough.Cost is about 8 times more per sheet.Cheers Ross

@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 лет назад
Definitely one could laminate a veneer onto these sheets.The peel ply finish would allow for a perfect veneer adhesion,and one of the reasons why I use peel ply is to do exactly that.my bulkheads and panel templates will come out again latwer when doing the interior trim.Cheers Ross

Dumb question, but is there any kind of filter to help with the gummy resin, or is it just buildup over time?
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 лет назад
There is a strainer on the intake, but saturated resins will always have some buildup as the thixotrope drops put of solution. That combined with the dust and oil residue ultimately only way to avpoid it is to acetone flush every day which would be too harsh for the entire system.Hoses and orings would likely suffer.All the best Rossco

I've noticed that so far you seem to be using foam core and not looking at any of the honeycomb panels for structural elements. I am wondering what has driven that choice. Is money the primary reason, or are there some technical advantages to the foam core or it is more compatible with the other material choices you have made or the manufacturing process. b.t.w. I haven't accepted your channel name change yet, I am waiting for the major milestone of removing the hull from the mold first. I don't see a lot of examples of that step out there for catamarans. I keep wondering how much weight and stiffness you will add to the hull before as I would think that will make it harder. I can only imagine how difficult it will be in a big shipyard with all their fancy equipment; in your little operation that seems like it will be daunting.

Hi Ross I'm not sure if you have discussed this previously but why not vacuum infusion for making the sheets and other components. Do you feel that the spray pump controls the amount of rising applied as well as vacuum?
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 лет назад
Graeme,the qty I am doing here would take 5 times longer,and cost 3 times more in set up and consumables .furthermore a a 1 man show and the fact that our cat is already aimed at a 1500kg reduction in weight from original production boat, fell it would not be worth the added drama and possibility of failures.That said I vacuum infuse parts and in many cases they are justified. In thus case I believe there would be about a 10 percent weight saving and using a professional machine such as I have definitely improves the wet layup process as you tend to spray only what's needed (user inititated)rather than pouring resin and squeezing off excesses.U have done some rudimentary testing of my sheets and there is minimal excess and certainly outstanding rigidity and stiffness.All the best.Ross

In the middle of researching how I should go about building the structural cabin of a 4x4 expedition vehicle, fallen across this video and I have a couple of questions. How do you best attach the internal panel dividing walls to the main structure? Is it just more epoxy on the panel ends and "stick em" together or do you layer glass round the corner from one panel to the other. I see issues with trying to get a flat surface if I do it the latter Also another YTuber who has already built one has used honeycomb panels as he discovered the glass /foam panels delaminated too easily when he tried to attach things to them. On one hand it sounds easier to use honeycomb but on the other I am going to need more insulation than that surely? I can't see honeycomb having anywhere near the R value / K value of foam panel. Also do you vacuum bag glass to better distribute the resin in the foam core.. I don't know where best to start.

For the table tops, you could get rolls of plastic sheet (the kind they use for greenhouses are the best because it's a stout material) and install them with the roll under the bench, at the rear of the table (on the wall side). Each time you need a fresh surface, you pull and cut the old one out. In the long term, it's a neat, efficient solution, I WISH, i could say cheap too, but everyone and their mother knows that prices in Australia are ...yeah. So that's up to you to determine if it's worth the cost, but ever since i got this tip from a friend, i haven't looked back. Bonus, unlike other materials, greenhouse sheets are UV resistant, so even if the bench is in the Sun and exposed for quite some time, it won't degrade and heat doesn't bother it as much (doesn't wrinkle).

Thanks for sharing a bit of Aussie life at the end. Nice to see sunshine and outside activities. We're still waiting our turn to go outside up here in Niagara. It's a balmy 3 degrees Celsius with rain and overcast. I'll be doing inside tasks on my boat with the heater on.

Thanks Karle, my father really was a great fella. It's only now you realise how important these people are in your life, his influences and mentoring shaped just about everything I do.He had a passion for video as well and watching home movies now I realise that I am him and that probably isn't a bad thing. I really am a cranky bugger off screen but i have a lot of fun at work. Ross

Daniel,you are an absolute legend for supporting me and I class you guys as original supporters and appreciate it so much. I can't see another coin as Seeker has good stocks of the old one and the new emblem is more of a logo that I fashioned to move forward.Cheers Daniel,Ross

@@LifeOnTheHulls No problem Ross. I like the coin I have just fine. Very little effort on my part. But like the old woman said when she pissed in the ocean, every little bit helps. I hope it helps. You must spend a lot of time replying to all of this and then you have to work on the boat. Wears me out just thinking about it. You are awesome in my books. Not many people would have the fortitude to complete a project like this. I think you will. My hat is off to you. By the way, I would love to see more about your kayak business in future videos. Maybe a tour or something like that, or some pictures of your kayaks. Thanks Ross for all you share, Daniel

Awesome work mate, i need to make some sheets soon, what density are they? That game was quite a while ago are all your vids 3months behind? Keep up the good work!
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls 5 лет назад
Yep Webbey,3 months behind typically.Foam is 12mm H80 with 300csm 600db on each side.To attain strength of 12mm plywood you would need to step up to 300csm x 2 and 600db both sides on 20mm h80 foam.Doesn't have same compressive strength though as ply.
@webbey6479
@webbey6479 5 лет назад
@@LifeOnTheHulls yeah cool think i will use the 100density gurit, im keeping everything on my boat above floor level foam core to keep Centre of Gravity low! Gunwales might have an extra layer of bi-axial for rod holder strength. Love your work mate!

I am thinking, as you probably have, a rubber bellows that would fill the gap and just ride up and down over top of the oil cup, to keep debris out.
