So happy Jeanie is feeling better! Such a beautiful old gal! I mean the house! I would never call Jeanie an old gal...😜 It's my understanding that the building features, such as windows with 6 over 6 glass, is done in Fibonacci sequence for visual appeal. I can't believe all those fireplaces! I have the glass doorknobs in my 1919 house, but only 1 fireplace. Pretty sure my house is the blue collar version of a Craftsman. I love how much of the original house is in tact! Thanks for the awesome tour!! Loved it!
Glad Jeannie is doing better. What an interesting house! It seems to have the look of a Four-Square, but also the roof lines we see later in the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style. Many of the 1920s houses here in S. CA are Craftsman or "Sears" kit house bungalows, and of course, many, many Spanish style homes, which include a number of sub-genres. The vintage bathroom is very cool; both of ours have two-color tile wainscotting, edged with the contrasting color. I've loved glass doorknobs since I was a small child; my grandparent's 1928 Spanish style house in Los Angeles had them and I vowed I would have my own one day. There is something magical about them...and they are very easy to clean! I'm sure it was hard for you to leave behind your original 1834 house in NY, as well as your friends and neighbors there. I'm delighted to learn you have met some great people who share your passion for saving old houses, right down the street. :)
Yes, it was hard to leave NY. We had some great neighbors there and the house was a gem. We also used to buy maple syrup by the gallons during maple season!
I enjoyed the tour very much. I can see why Keith and Rebecca would want to restore it. Glad to see Jeanie has recovered. Thanks for another interesting video. 💖💖
No there was no fire, the wood was torched befor the pillar was bricken in, this was common in 1920s in the south as termites and insects will not borrow to eat it. Its a natural way to protect wood in replacement of chemicals.
So good to see Jeanne up and about. That house reminds me so much of the first house we bought after I got out of the Navy in 1979. It was an old mill house (company housing for factory workers) in Greenwood, not far from where you are. While built in 1950, it was built using the same plans as ones built in the 1920’s. We even had a coal fireplace in the living room.
@@1834RestorationHouse Oh yeah! The house had a suspended concrete slab porch on the back that had been enclosed to make a utility room. I needed to drill a hole to run some cables when I rewired the house. Fourteen inches thick!
Glad to see Jeanie is well again!! ❤ I loved the tour of your friends’ house! Is it a “four-square” style? It’s going to be fabulous when it’s done! I love all the huge rooms, all the windows, and all the fireplaces! There’s so much detail that has remained over the years! They’ve got their work cut out for them but it’s going to be a great house when they’re done!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Best, Jan
First, so happy you're up and about and looking like your usual self, Jeanie! I've thought of you all week and wondered how you were doing. 🌺 What a lovely home your friends have purchased to restore! It's going to be a beauty when it's done. And how interesting that there's a family connection to the home. It reminds me a bit of my daughter's home which was built sometime in the mid to late teens. She had asked the old couple in their 80s and was thrilled to find they had the original house plans (a trick she learned from me - you'd be surprised how many people do have them and will probably toss them after they leave the house, so I always ask and had plans for most of my houses). She researched and found the granddaughter of the man who had it built and whose mother had grown up there. She had actually written to the mother, but sadly the lady had just died a month before - her daughter said she'd have loved to see current pictures and talk about the house. The second family to own the house had boys and my daughter spoke with one who was dying to see his boyhood home so she extended an invitation and he was so happy that he brought her an original light fixture that his family had taken when they moved! She was thrilled! Most of the lights were original and she had been searching for the right light to replace in that spot! Most of the original everything was still in the house, though the family she bought from had covered many things over in the 70s! And there's a built-in cupboard missing from the living room that we think they removed. Sorry, didn't mean to run on, but I love the history of ownership of homes and my daughter picked it up, too. I'm thrilled that this house has, in some way, come full circle in the family. Happy Easter, Jeanie & Mike! 🌷🐣🌷🐇✝️🐇🌷🐣🌷
Happy Easter! That's great your daughter has been able to connect with previous owners and get back an original fixture too! Sadly, the entire family who lived in our house have all passed on, but we now know who they were!
Yay, I'm so happy you are feeling better, Jeannie! Thank you for giving us a tour of this neat house! Hopefully you can keep us updated on it as the restoration continues. I am so glad your friends are taking in this project and saving this home ❤
Hi guys. So glad your back to health Jeanie darling! U got us all worried there! Take it easy sweetheart. Sending you love and hugs. Great video loved it, it was so interesting. Thank you for showing us around the 1920s house, it’s beautiful. Hopefully you can show us the progress. Much love lisa xx ❤
Beautiful old home so much potential !! So good alot of the original featues are intact amazing love it!! I love old homes i have an old late 1800 farmhouse in texas a project the last 11 yrs. Always something to do on these old treasures but love living in them they feel like a big hug when you walk through their doors!! Just found your channel really enjoyed the video Thank u for sharing.
What a beautiful, spacious house! I'm so glad that Keith and Rebecca are trying to save it. That sure is a lot of work but structural first. Tons of time, money and work but so worth it. I loved the leaded glass windows. The proportions of the house are just gorgeous.
Thank you for the tour. Your friends will have a treasure, not to mention a good investment, when they're finished. Come again when they're farther along.
Glad to hear you're feeling better. This is a beautiful house it would be nice to see it after its finished too. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed Easter.
Glad to see Jeannie up and around. I bet she's glad too! The neighbors have a wonderful house! You just imagine how lovely it will be when it has been restored. It sure doesn't take long for a place to decay if no one lives in it or looks after it. Thanks to your friends for sharing this wonderful house!
Jeanie is doing great now, we're both glad! I was so relieved when they rescued that house. There are lots of derelict old houses around the region that sadly won't survive.
That house is a *huge* project! It’s going to be amazing when it’s done. I must say it’s more work than I’d take on at this point in my life but it will be so worth it for them. Happy to see Jeanie is feeling better! Hugs, Doc❤
So glad to see Jeanie up and about. 💞🎉 Wasnt sure if she tried the exercises I shared on your last video that really helped me. 🤔 My comment has been removed? This house reminds me of my Great Grandma's house, built in the 1020's on 28th Street, near the old Dairy Queen in downtown Vancouver. ☺️♥️ She went to the big church across the street from it! 👍 WOW! This was a special treat! Thanks for sharing. Wishing you both a very blessed Resurrection weekend! "HE IS RISEN!" 🎉✝️🙏🌷
Oh my goodness, I fell in love. In love with this beautiful house which someday will be a beautiful home. I’m so thrilled that Keith n Rebecca is saving her. Also happy to see there going to keep it as original as possible. This house is massive. Rooms are large with fireplaces in each room. Yes, it’s a lot of work but oh, the rewards are endless. Thank you Keith n Rebecca for letting Mike n Jennie share this with all of us. I hope in the future that they be able to share with us the finished house/home. Loved n enjoyed this video. ♥️♥️😊👍🌟🌟🌟
So happy to see you both back and looking great. I’m glad Jeanie is feeling better. I absolutely love this type of house and you did such a good job describing everything. How great that you’ve made friends with the neighbors. I see lots of you both helping each other out and look forward to seeing that develop.
So nice to see another old house getting a new life. Wish them well on the project. Appreciated the tour and seeing Jeanie back. Have a wonderful Easter weekend. 🐣🐰❤️🤍💙
Great to see Jeanie up and smiling. What a wonderful old home. Great informative tour. There is absolutely a warm feeling in older homes. I think it has to do with the window placement and that natural warm light. Have a great week. Great video!
Another great video! Just thought of another great 20's song, Jeannine, I dream of Lilac Time-a waltz-I know I have this one...somewhere...reminded me of Jeannie
LOL! I was named for that song “Jeannine I Dream of Lilac Time”! I found an old 78 rpm record of it many years ago and gave it to my parents for a present. I didn’t like the song myself, and I don’t like the name either. No one could ever spell my name right or pronounce it right. Started calling myself “Jan” in high school. I guess my parents meant well but …
Thank you for this tour! I have seen houses like this one and always wondered what they looked like inside. I love it that this beautiful old home is being restored!
What a fabulous house! Thank you (and the owners) for sharing. I hope we can see more as work is done in the future. Great to see Jeannie feeling better again!
Very glad jeannie is much better and back again. What a nice, interesting and very professionally edited vlog. You guys can easily start hosting programs on tv. Explaination of details, history very clear and entertaining. Would love to see restoration progress of this house every couple of months done by you guys. Compliments
Very beautiful home just like yours. It’s going to be great when it’s done. Hope they have the same work ethic that you guys have. Looks like they do. I’m betting that they don’t live in the house just yet. That makes a big difference. Thanks for the video and your wonderful friends for letting you share their home with us. 😊😊
I cannot help wondering if the first floor bedroom was originally a porch. The windows seemed to be 6 over 6. The remainder of the windows are 6 over 1 or 3 over 1 or 2 over 1. Wonder how it is the windows are so different.
Hi. I noticed some of the ceilings have a grid pattern on them. Is that something your friends installed or is it like a drop ceiling they plan on removing? Thank you for the tour
It was only as thick as a standard wall so I'm thinking it wasn't. Did you ever see the episode where we toured an old plantation house that had a dumbwaiter?
Please watch the second half of the Tartan Topiary on RU-vid of a decorator review AND Mary’s 100+ year old home! She just added a pool near the car porch drop off!
