It's as though the trees are watching and admiring a sheltering memorial to (and from) their fellows as you rise it up amongst them. As if they literally breathe easier, seeing the fine design that fits and transforms the very limbs and boughs that they blanket the forest with, into a work or astounding art. Epic!

Great to see a past version of you again Trustin, and looking forward to the future. Of all the tools that you use, I have to admit an admiration for, perhaps an almost searching for affinity with, the long bladed chisel or chisels that appear in your videos. It or they have an elegance of determined and patient, even practical, purpose that comes to life in your hands, and the post holes, joints, and cleaning of saw cuts that you make with them reminds me of a careful uncluttering of a place, a room, or even a complicated life story, in preparation for the next part of the process. I trust all is well with you and your family, and enjoy, enjoy enjoy, because these moments of babyhood are all to soon over, gone and consigned to a literal past of fatherhood which never seems to be the same when memory recalls it from another distant if timely and even eloquent frame of mind. Framing can bring things to life, and as your work on the cabin shows, all pictures can be set into a detailed and carefully formed frame of events, with an awareness of the scents, textures, touch and movements that can bring them to life once more when we allow ourselves to wholly revisit who and where we have been, and lived again as what we have done by realising what for.

Beautiful and professional construction I really liked 1 the roof on one excellent slope in places where it snows. You can also raise the other side so that it will be possible to stand there on the second floor of a relatively small house (excellent sheina rooms that you do not get stuck with your head on the roof

First, Many Happy Returns on the baby, I had my first son 2 years ago late in life and he is the greatest joy that I have truly know. Secondly, I appreciate how honest you are about not "knowing" what you are doing and it being "trial and error." Still, as someone who has used tools including chainsaws a lot in my life, you strike me as having more than a passing comfort with them. So either you practiced a lot before you started this process or you have at least more than a passing knowledge of how to use on. What you are doing is impressive! I have seen several others build cabins in this style, so I will be interested to not only see what the end result it, but what future efforts you put forward. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and keep up the good work.

Nice work! Quick question, though: how did you fill in the gap between the last short log you put in place at the start of the video and the bottom of the beam? I've been dying for an answer since the previous episode but I don't think you ever showed us how you did it :)
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber 2 года назад
I really appreciate you paying such close attention. I did shoot it and I did explain it on camera but you are right, I have not put a video out yet showing that. I plan to do a longer version of this video and I will go into explanation. But to answer your question, The last long I split in half and bolted it in from both sides and will fill inside with insulation later once it's closed in. What's nice about this is because those half logs are riding against a rounded surface if the wall logs start to settle I can just pull out the screws on each end and push it in a little more. At least that's my theory. It's not the method explained in the post and beam book I'm using as a guide but I couldn't see why it wouldn't work and gives the walls a nice clean finish. Hopefully I'll have the longer version edited in a couple weeks.
@daniel_charms
@daniel_charms 2 года назад
@@TrustinTimber That actually sounds quite sensible - it's also how you would patch a rotten log so I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be done this way. Another thing I noticed was that you never put any insulation between the logs. Does it mean you'll be caulking the seams from the outside?
