This is a great series, I am really enjoying your adventures. Echoes of the old saying ' It's the journey not the destination' keep springing to mind. Ride safe and thanks for posting.
Wow Ian you're doing fantastic!! Fascinating watching you go through all these terrains and towns with people's going about there daily lives in places we would never see!! But take it steady and be safe. 👍☺️
Great content, great pace, great editing, inspiring entertainment. You've given me the bug. Had the bike, now got the camping gear. Can't wait 'til next easter. If you're inclined at some point would love to hear about:- 1. Your Bike 2. Your gear. 3. Getting through the red tape for cross border travel - docs & money 4. Your Plan B for mishaps/suprises along the way. Please carry on as you are - all good things come to those who wait but I think you are stirring a lot of dormant dreams in many of us following you, who I'm sure are wising you the best in your adventures. Luvvin' it 🐫
I find it hard to believe you dont know how fantastic this series of yours is and no back up at all. You put all the others to shame cant wait for the next episode FANTASTIC please stay safe
We salute you sir. You bring us such pleasure in your vlogs. It feels like you are showing us parts of the world we would see only glamourised on travel programs. Perhaps we should turn the heating up while watching to make it more authentic…😅😅 Ride safe and be safe. We wish you well.
Had a stop over in Dakar on my way to Australia in 1969/70, went to a Cafe to get a drink with a group of Danish friends, when a little boy about maybe 10 wanted to shoe shine our sandles, suddenly spoke almost perfect Danish to us.
Fantastic Ian, I thought that bus was going to take you out mate, it couldn't decide where it wanted to be , keep sharing, loving the videos and keep safe
Great to see your doing OK The secret to the hot weather is to leave earlier in the morning I like my bed and a good rest but traveling in those temperatures is not nice Leave early/ park early Stay safe and enjoy every minute
That's always been my intention but somewhere along the way my brain got into an bad habit of waking up about 2 or 3 in the morning and I'd be wide awake and then go off again a couple of hours later, which meant I would get up later. My whole body clock has gone haywire. Fortunalety its back to normal now...
Well you should feel proud of yourself You are flying the Adventure flag Showing us all that there is a big world out there just waiting to be visited Take care a enjoy your rest
Hello I don't know your name from me Robert am 68 and have had a hip replacement but I own a 1200 gs am wondering if I can ride again will try though, so your video's are waiting anticipation in this home ,lived in Zimbabwe South Africa ,have done Botswana and Zambia living in cambridge UK so you are great and like your content, no swearing and music is okay. Remember to put on sun cream, eat well, and drink plenty, regards the Haughton clan ,excellent video's well done
Tell you what mate, if you do get back in the saddle, try Morocco. You dont have to go daft going cross country, but if you stick to the tarmac you'll find their roads are utterly superb. Better then Scotland.
Really enjoying your RU-vid channel. I’m not far off your age and you’ve given me some inspiration to try something similar. Keep up the adventure and stay safe!
Well done Ian I liked the song you put on at the begin with, know that you're never really alone even when you are riding those desolated long straight roads. If you're not contend with yourself then it means that you're in bad company but doesn't seem to be the case, you're doing just fine. I reckon that before long you're going to be very famous on the internet, even though it wasn't your intend. I love how organic and genuine you are when you take your deserved rest to tell us how the past days went for you. Needless to say, always make sure that you've got plenty of water, gasoline and food ! it's blazing hot out there
Heat can be a killer! Your reactions slow down and you can't think straight! Try to ride only in the morning - start at first light, maybe 6am, and plan to get to your destination before midday. Then you can rest all afternoon and enjoy where you are. You should also drink regularly, don't wait until you're thirsty. "Saludos" from Spain.
Well done so far. The trick for dehydration is to drink more as soon as you stop sweating. Otherwise drink a cupfull equivalent every 20-30 minutes. Don't forget salts, minerals because water has none.
Really enjoying your vlogs, very well done sir. I'm thinking of doing a trip to Morocco in the New Year because of your trip. I can see a few have mentioned about soaking a shirt etc to stay cool which obviously works but using dedicated hot weather base layers, not just cotton T's, helps a lot. They give you another 4 or 5 degrees of comfort, Under Armour do some among others. It maybe too late for this trip but maybe in the future....?
I realise now that my riding gear was wrong. But I'll know what riding gear I need if I come this way again. Thinner MX trousers, under armour and then an MX top and additional layers incase it gets a bit nippy. But unless you actually do it, then you dont know what works and what doesnt. Tell you what Paul, you wont regret Morocco. Its a great country, with superb biking roads.
There is a trick I have used again in extreme heat, you soke your shirt in water under your jacket and open the jacket as much as possible still leaving crash protection and the wind as you ride acts as an Evaporative Air Conditioner. This only lasts till the shirt drys but it does cool you down a lot. Repeat as you go.
Thank you for uploading your new video. Although I worried about your body condition concerned about heat stroke or dehydration, I've relieved to watch your good condition after several days rest. I can realized from your video how bad traffic in African city is. More traffic rules are needed for them. Thank you and take care.
I don't know how behind your updates are, but till now you had very easy roads. Wait for Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, till Nigeria and hope it does not rain.
haha.. I remember that programme. To use music on RU-vid it has to be royalty free or have a copyright waiver, so I have to buy the music I use, and I'm fairl;y limited when it comes to 'regional' type music. Glad youre enjoying the vid's though.
When you get back to Scotland, come and tell us @edamlive about your adventures? (I did the same trip 10 years ago with a group on C90s. I recognise your comments about the heat!)
As a UK passport holder you dont need a visa to visit Morocco. You get that on the ferry. Its a formality. You get your visa for mauritania and Senegal on the border. Anything south of Senegal - then it gets a little more complicated.
Hope you are well from sunny Manchester, NOT !!!😊 riding in that heat is murder Vstrom sounds like it hasn't missed a beat are you due a tyre change yet ? Best wishes Graham Graham.
Cheers mukka.... The VS has been a star. Never missed a beat. The tyreas are still good. I bought the GPS because they are hard and long wearing. At the moment I've done 6k miles and I reckon the rear is good for another 8k and the front 10k.
Yes, definitely a lighter bike. I did consider a 500 honda but I've bashed the bottom of my bashplate a few times, so maybe a T7, or even a Royal Enfield.
Guys a bit more respect, can you please stop hijacking IAN's lovely channel to air your vews of other Utubers, it is not fair to him or anyone else wanting to or read moments about his videos and journey. Appologies to you Ian from me that the commenting got sidetracked. You are sir doing a great job, especially in that heat, I myself (at 72/3) will be expieriencing similar next year, so I'm also learning from your mistakes 🤣 and advice of course too. Looking forward to your next video, ride safe pal.
Next time I do a hot climate it will be MX trousers, body armour, MX shirts and then layers incase it gets a bit nippy. The riding gear I have is wrong for this temperature. Mind you, I'm so glad I have these instead of my usual RST textiles. I'd be dead of heat exhaustion by now.
Yes better to have a protection jacket of some sort, I have the Ortema one, then you do not need the protection pads in other jackets enabling you to roll them up smaller in your bags, same goes for kneepads by wearing knee/ shin protectors. I also have the mesh jacket from Revit. Soaking your T shirt and leaving the jacket 2/3rds open will help, cheap ac 😉.
I cannot agree with you about what you say about Noraly, and I doubt very much that any others of her 1,95m would either. She has shown more of the world to the travelling community than anyone else in such a short time. This is full time work for her, not a holiday once in a while like the rest of us. Ian is on his holiday of a lifetime, there is no comparison, I respect both Ian ( for this undertaking at his age) and Noraly for what they are doing. I myself will next year celebrate my 73rd birthday on a long tour somewhere and won't be comparing or criticising anyone else. Everyone is free to unsuscribe but not to criticise, and definately not on other channels that they themselves maybe have never seen or know about. Ride safe, have fun.
But my comment had nothing to do with how much of the world she has shown us, nor to how many subscribers she has amassed. I allude to the style she now presents in. Her fame has overcome her, her production techniques, while very professional and smooth, have taken away from the rawness that was so appealing when she first set out. As you rightly say, this is full time work to Norally hence she has to make videos that get views, that are eye-catching, polished, but sadly just a few days ago had a clickbait title, claiming the police were forcing her to pay. THEY DIDN'T. I unsubscribed to Itchy Boots around 2 years ago when I saw the writing on the wall. But each to their own. If Itchy Boots is your kinda gal then good for you. Personally I find this guys content to be the 'real deal' as opposed to a 'count the views' type of production. I don't feel criticism is bad if it is done constructively. I feel I have been constructive in this response and factually honest in calling her a "me, me, me bore" in my previous reply because in my opinion SHE IS. Good on you for planning a trip at your age. I am 60 and in 2025 it is my plan to ride to Tromso via the West Coast of Norway. Where are you planning to go to? @@Wrong-Way-Round
