So I got my DCX package a few months ago. I wish your videos was out then! This is much better than the actual DCX assembly/installation video. Great Work! Keep it up!

Hey Bob! Great review. Thank you!!! Waiting for the part with setting up the system. That would be cool to view.

Yup...that's in progress. Going to show everything hooked up and running...that video is about 4 weeks out.

Couple of questions. I have 220v already wired, so wondering if I would still need the transformer? My thought was that it's a frequency converter as they use 50Hz in Europe and 60Hz here in the US. Another question is the weather proofing of the tank enclosure itself. I would like to see if I can plumb this to my pool and circulate chlorinated pool water instead of a dry cooler. The issue with this is that it's about a 50ft run from where the tank would be located in the house. The other option is to have the tank out by the pool since I already have 220v there. If I was to put the tank unit out by the pool, what type of weather protection would be needed (if any)? PS, I run anywhere from 220v to 240v variable.

Good question. DCX says you need the transformer...but 220 AC is 220 AC, so I've read many people stating it should work. The only thing I can think of is the pump has a ground wire. In European 220, that ground wire is at 0V, whereas in the US, it would be at 120V...I'm not an electrical engineer, so I'm not sure if that matters. The transformer box costs about $100, but a new pump can run you $300...so I guess it depends on how much risk you want to take Heating your pool is a great use of miner heat...I've helped a few folks get there and I've got an episode on pool heating...that might help with some planning/details on the pool heater. The tank coming from DCX doesn't have a sealed lid, but the lid overhang and latching mechanism is good...it would take a pretty good storm to get water blown up into the tank. But...given the cost of the fluid and miners, I think it might be worth having some external protection like a cabinet or shelter for the tank. Might be something to plan for, but make the call whether to add additional protection once you get the tank and get a good look at it.

@@HBIM_Channel It would be interesting if you can get a power/load value for just the pumps/cooler alone. By that, I mean measuring that circuit separately from the ASICs. Still need to have the "heat" produced by the ASICS but to be able to measure the pumps and fans to determine the "overhead" for the DCX system.

@@ronwatkins5775 Agreed! I've been meaning to do an episode on 'parasitic losses'...I don't think they are huge, but they aren't zero...would be interesting to see how big they really are for immersion. ...so many ideas, so little time!

In your next vid, DEFINITELY show the dry cooler in operation and at various speeds... going from minimum to maximum with you talking over it for reference. I purchased the bigger brother -- the ICP40 -- because at the time it was the smallest capacity available. Even with just one of the two 500mm fans enabled, it was still too loud for my neighborhood.
@HBIM_Channel
@HBIM_Channel Год назад
Good idea. I'm still running my existing DIY dry cooler...I don't want to tear that out if it is working, but I think running the DCX cooler with a microphone and maybe a noise meter will give a great comparison!

sorry for the delay...I had to do some work on the rest of my system to keep mining. I'm writing the script for the next episode now, and it WILL have noise measurements...I promise!@@dimitrikatsaros9212

@@HBIM_Channel Thank you! I am asking as someone who has bought a DCX system with an ICP40 (not the smaller pod). Mine has the same fan as the pod's dry cooler, just two instead of one. They are too noisy for my neighborhood. I've gotten complaints. So, it sits idle until I can find a solution.

Have you considered making your own fan controller to take the tank temperature into consideration? I'm thinking about doing this as the tank temperature is more important than the water temperature outside but the sensors from DCX don't work like that.
@HBIM_Channel
@HBIM_Channel 4 месяца назад
Yes! For my system I didn't deploy the DCX dry cooler, but made my own--its covered in other episodes. I have a mixing valve and temperature switch built into the design so the fluid routes around the dry cooler in the winter (to keep the heat in) and only turn the fan on when the fluid gets hot in the summer.

@@HBIM_Channel yep am making my way through your videos now as my miners aren’t local to me so I need better remote monitoring and management. The pipes froze a couple of months back and now the ICP15 is a write off! Going to upgrade but also want to incorporate the monitoring that you have. Where are those meter displays from? Vosk has them also but not sure if they’re US specific?
@HBIM_Channel
@HBIM_Channel 4 месяца назад
@@hewhorocketh Oh no! Sorry to hear about your ICP15...freezing temps can be tough. I got the meters off of Amazon, made by DROK...they are cheap, but so far they have worked fine. www.amazon.com/DROK-80-300V-Voltmeter-Multimeter-Transformer/dp/B01MRZAFAF/ref=sr_1_3_pp?sr=8-3

@@HBIM_Channel that’s really cool. Might be something for the next install. Another thing dcx suggested is putting insulation around the water loop sensor. Would have been nice if that was from factory!

@@HBIM_Channel thanks. I may go down the smart PDU route but the meters are a nice visual real time view without logging into anything. I’m not on site at the farm often.

Residential electricity costs at 13 cents per kWh make any sort of mining at home not profitable and you will do nothing but lose money
