Mr.Andy thank you very much for your dedication. You gave lot of information about outlander phev during past few years. I'm doctor Upul from Sri Lanka. I got a big problem 2 days back with my outlander phev. There was a massage saying" Ev system services required " . I couldn't start it, but AC, seat heaters worked well. I contacted local delear, they are clueless and ask me to wait until this covid situation over which I can't ( because only vehicle I have).I was hopeless and was thinking thinking..finally I went through one of your videos and got a clue..surprisingly your instructions worked and I could get rid of that error message and charge the battery..finally I could start it aloving to go and get a new battery.. Whole credit should go to your dedication... Thank you again and again ,specially in this difficult situation with covid 19..
As a potential used PHEV buyer i really appreciate your videos during my research period! Second hand market is starting here now cause it's been 5 years in business lease, since 2013. Greetings from the Netherlands
Totally agree, Andy's videos are great, I am looking into buying PHEV at the moment and its great to see the pro's and cons of this car before you commit yourself to buying one. Well done Andy
Thanks for the video. Flat 12v battery this morning due to using the heater when not in Ready mode. Not made clear anywhere in official documentation not to do this, assumed having a full drive battery would make it fine. Road side assistance were clueless and started talking about opening up the boot floor. Showed them the positive terminal in the fuse box method and was on my way in minutes. Dented my confidence in the PHEV concept to be honest. Assumed it would be a fairly simple solution to stop this happening, all that juice in the main battery, attached to an electrical supply and yet a flat auxiliary battery! So frustrating. Anyway, as a precautionary measure, I've bought a compact lithium jump starter and will keep in the vehicle in case the battery dies on me again. Only takes a minute to get going, once you know how! Thanks for your dedication.
Saved my skin. Thank you so much. I had been on holiday for a week and strangely came back to a dead battery. I open the car put on a booster pack and it started up straight away. Like and subscribe. ❤
My car battery was dead. After I jump start the car few signs popped up ECS, ASC,ABS, PARKING BREAK SERVICE REQUIRED, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED so I replaced the battery but the signs remain the same. I have booked a appointment with the main dealer lets see what they say. Hopefully I won’t have to pay crazy amount of money.
Canadian owner here - was told we were the 6th buyer by our dealer. I have not seen another Outlander PHEV anywhere near where I live or frequent on weekends. At a local electric car center (govt. funded location where they give info on EV, provide 4x free chargers & test drives of current crop of EVs) where I went to inquire about a home charger install, they said ours was the first one they ever seen on the road. The funniest part was 3 other families walking in... wanting to test drive OUR car! That said, it feels like the NA cars are quite loaded. Most of them have leather seating, electric heaters, CHAdeMO DC quick charging, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert & WiFi Remote control App as standard equipment. The 2pm charging is something I haven't heard of - this car has a lot of interesting facts I learn everyday.
I can only imaging how exciting that must be. One of the first in it's class, wow. You actually don't need dedicated charger at home, a normal power point is fully sufficient. Unless you get the charging station cheaper through incentives...
In Ontario, we get 50% of the Level 2 charger cost & 50% of the electrician bill back from the Govt. The car itself was given a $9500 provincial rebate, which made it as affordable as the higher-end petrol Outlander. The family wants to have the flexibility of the Level 2 charging station - using the 12A 110v OEM unit takes ~8.5h to charge which is great for overnight use, but not so great for multiple stop & go from trips from home. Also the Level 2 install is also in preparation for my own full EV likely sometime later this year. The Outlander PHEV is mainly my father's commuter & family vehicle, but I prefer something smaller & even more efficient; along the lines of a Leaf, e-Golf or Ioniq.
Thanks for your video my 12v was dead the instructions manual said to clamp to a far off metal point and I had one of those portable jump packs. Followed your advice it worked like charm :) thanks you very much
Thanks! I had to take off the panel at the back 2 times to jump start my Outlander , I thought this was a design flaw but i was just not informed . So I can confirm that the custom settings remain however the ECU will be reset . Another thing I'm interested in if this model has a audio AUX input so I can add a android auto without replacing the multimedia system that's in the car
So funny I have had the notification of this video for a few days now on my phone yet only just watched it. This morning I had the 12v die on my (my fault) and could have rectify it faster with this info...
Today this video saved my arse about £ 100 in garage fees, I'd never have thought to look for the positive terminal bearing in mind the battery is in the boot. Cheers.
Hey Andy, Our 2014½ year model Outlander seems to have a failed AGM battery in the boot. Do you have a recommendation to replace it with a lithium unit? I'm aware the lead acid charging profile may not be well matched but was curious to know what you think. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Nice to see how to do a jump start with the positive port under the hood espeshially a -25 degrees in Canada it s easier to do Thanks s lot for your video.
nozpazz I am not an expert either. The auxiliary battery is quite small in a Mitsubishi PHEV, I used my neighbors universal charger set it to motorcycle battery.😅
@@dangr3957 I enquired at an automotive supplier (Halfords) and they have suggested suitable portable charger for £59. Being delivered 2m. Thanks for your note of caution.
Hi, Andy, I just did that yesterday, I have to disconnect my aux battery and connect it again, and all settings were there, everything is saved some how. Cheers
Hi Gavin, my phev drives normally on electric, but for some reason i cant get the petrol engine to turn on. If i press down the CHRG button, the petrol engine starts kicking but doesn't turn on, ill have to shut down and turn again to drive it on EV. Do you think this condition has anything to do with the 12v battery? Thanks.
Thank you so much for your video, it was very helpful. Just quick question if you could please help- I have Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2018, I bought this accident car and I did some repair work but it doesn’t seems to start so I think circuit breaker seems to cut off during accident so I don’t know how to locate that??? any help with this is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I have a Subaru with a dead battery (the battery is 100% dead, there is no recharging here). Can I unplug the - from the subaru's battery, and use jumper cables to start the subaru from the Outlander's 12v battery like this? Disconnecting the negaive from the Subaru's battery will completely remove the battery from the system, and it is not needed while the car runs, just to start up. The point is the car doesn't start, I KNOW the battery is dead, but I don't have another one at hand. I need to start the car once to move it. Could I just start it that way?
Hi Andy Great video on the 12v Aux Battery. Just wondering if I plug my portable Engel Fridge on the 12v socket at the back, will it drain out the battery?
My problem is the charging cover is locked despite my being able to unlock the doors. I’ve got access to the battery in the boot by unscrewing the cover. The 4 amp charger has been on for 4 hours and the voltage has actually gone down from 3 volts to 2volts. I shall buy a new battery and a booster starter for emergency in future. Meanwhile I have called the AA here in England. They will come in 2 hours they say.
I can see an increase from 13.1 to 14V after parking for the voltage supplied to the BMU... That would mean something... And gosh, finally those little horses again.
Same to me. I don't know but like I've said once to the Andreas, in my opinion his problem is related to the charging this little battery. I sugested to put a ampmeter clamp around the aux battery cable and mesure the drain current. If the ampmeter doesn't have memory function you could put your camera recording those values and watch them later.
No, like yours no wifi and electric heating (likewise for Sérgio). I've added the supplied voltage for the BMU on v0.9.2, and it always increases to 14V after parked or stationary charging. Not absolutelly sure that the BMU is powered by the auxiliary battery (12V), but I suppose it is, since it doesn't really make sense to me that it should be powered from the drive battery.
I'll check again later but while parked I mesured the battery voltage and I saw almost 14V. That voltage is only possible during chaging. That was few minutes after wall charging and it's possible that the PHEV was also charging the 12V bat when was pluged but I suspect that is a common situation and no wall charging necessary. I'll check.
Hey Gavin, thanks for all your videos. I’ve watched them in hope of finding solution to the problem I have with 2015 Phev. The engine does not turn off when I push the engine button. Took it to the dealers and they can’t find the fault. Any ideas?
Could I use a mains powered 12V battery charger to recharge the 12v battery? I have one and it says it is "suitable for all petrol and diesel engine cars and vans. For all 12v lead acid automotive batteries"? My other car is a Leaf and it is not suggested to use that for starting other car batteries. I could ask a friend to bring a car over otherwise.
@@unpluggedEV First thing I tried was to plug in the main drive battery, but this did *not* charge the 12V battery. The drive battery charged OK, the 12v auxiliary battery did not, so I think you are mistaken. I think 12v battery charges when the car is on, but one can't switch the car on without the 12v battery... I jump started the car using a jump start battery pack and then drove it for a while to allow the 12v battery to charge. This worked initially and I could switch the car off and back on again, but the next day the 12v was flat again - replacement 12v auxilliary battery required - £600 (!!!) to supply and fit at dealer. Ouch. The cold spell and lack of use due to lockdown probably killed the battery. I will be taking better care of it next winter: running the car every week.
Hi i have mitsubishi outlander phev 2016 batry is flay also big battery's are flat as well i try to jump the battery but petrol engine is not running there is any reason its not working??
ah, just watched to the end now. So if I plug my PHEV for recharging as normal (I have a recharging point at home) then the drive battery will charge and that will charge the 12V battery? Or have I misunderstood.
Sir, I have a new PHEV 2019 and a problem with connecting to 12v120w. I have a coolbox of 45W and runs while driving. Probably OK. In menu I set option extra 60 min. at ACC and the next day I didn't start. The battery capacity is probably low. The 12v120w is probably OK when driving. My PHEV is INTENSE model without WIFI and without 220V. Is it possible that the watchdog module was discharging it? Thank you for your advice novice Vaclav Novak, Rotterdam
thats poor design by mitsubishi i have no problem to access my 12v prius battery. after watching your videos andy im not sure i still want a outlander phev i think ill keep my second gen prius.
