Disaster Struck! I would have preferred fending off Pirates... but instead I was attacked by a different nasty offender! Now it's time to decide to scrap-it and rebuild or try to salvage it...

Brother, I'm in the camp of "this is ok." It will dry, and the mold will not have chance to further propagate when that happens. It will also (probably?) all be covered with epoxy and/or paint in the end, sealing off any mold/mildew. If possible, yes, what everyone said about allowing airflow under the enclosure and between wood surface/plastics will be best! I, personally, wouldn't even bother with dehumidifiers; airflow will likely solve the problem. For a dehumidifier to be effective, it will need a completely sealed envelope, including the earth (an infinite supply of moisture... like running an air conditioner outdoors).

Thanks, I agree. I treated it and when it dries I'm going to make vents in the shelter and cover it back up. May or may not put a fan in the out vent to run a bit here and there before everything freezes. Thanks for your counsel. :-)

My guess is the moisture is coming from the ground. My greenhouse does the same thing (which it should). If you can cover the ground with plastic under the frame it may solve your issue..

I'll take a look at it again next week. Supposed to start raining tomorrow... I have time to recover. :-)

I panic about my build being outdoors all the time, but you're good. This is okay.

I had the exact same problem you are having. I solved the problem by covering the boat with fabric car or truck covers, followed by plastic over that. I also ran a rotating fan within the enclosure. Problem solved.

How did you get rid of the existing mold? Or did you have any?

@@mydreamboatproject I used a bleach plus water solution that worked well for me. I think you will be OK by being diligent through the winter. That's what I had to do here in WA. St. Good luck.

If you get some dehumidifiers you can set them under the tarp a check daily with a moister meter you can absolutely dry it out may take few days then treat the growth with an anti fungal like ON & GONE

I saw a few at Home Depot that may work. I'm feeling a bit more optimistic today :-)

I would say the same about dehumidifiers plus maybe think about a cheap fan at one end always on to keep the air moving the should stop the condensations

First try to let it dry by ventilation, a little black streaks are not that bad for the wood/construction.

I'll be doing that tomorrow. Home Depot webpage say s the black mold can be taken off. Even if I do that I'm a bit concerned of it coming back once the boat is complete and I'm semi living on it for months at a time. Need to research if it will come back if I clean it off and have epoxy coated over it?

Disheartening. I would be tempted to disassemble the frames and store inside until you can make a fresh start. the mold must be able to be treated by a bleach/chlorine product?

I'm going to do that tomorrow if it doesn't freeze out there. Only 38 today but getting colder...

Definately not an expert but........i assume before long in your area it will be constantly below freezing and the moisture problem will go away. Until then can u dry with a fan underneath the plastic? Is it possible to seal enough to use an ozonator in the spring to take kill mold?

Going to try to get some ventilation through it for winter if possible.
