Just use some simple Saddle Soap to clean leather and recondition it with a shoe conditioner. Would have saved you a ton of time!

Very interesting! Does your leather cleaning method have an advantage over using saddle soap? Another very enjoyable video!

Cobs 'n Briars I wanted to avoid saddle soap because it contains lye and I concerned that it might create an unpleasant gas if it reacted to the heat from the pipe bowl. I have no science for that, just an abundance of caution.

The restored pipe looks fantastic. Is it a Kiko? What was the purpose of wrapping pipes with leather?
@BarePipe

Big Dave it is a Kudu that was made in Africa. Leather wrapped pipes was popular for a period, and was a purely aesthetic thing. It added no real benefits to the smoking experience.

I know you haven't posted anything in a good while but I'm taking a shot in the dark anyway with a question. I have an estate pipe coming to me and I cannot find any information on this particular shape. Do you have any idea where I can find information on wally frank pipes. The general google search is bringing up nothing. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
