Here’s what the first three AC75 Cup boats looked like on their special day.
Of the many milestones that represent any America’s cycle, the launch of new boats is one of the most exciting.
One by one, years of work, tens of thousands of man hours of design, build and fit out are revealed.

Ya, the timing is funny. The only boat left to launch at this point is France and she's likely to be essentially the same boat as NZ. Also, I feel like I read somewhere that they aren't planning to launch any time soon either. Maybe the US, UK episode is coming very soon, and we'll get France on its own later?

I think calling it an "end plate effect" is a bit of a stretch. An end plate sits perpendicular to a lift surface. Thus the skeg (or whatever the name of that protrusion at the bottom of the skull) being approximately parallel to the sail is not a very good candidate for an end plate. The deck is a much better analog. Traditionally the skeg provides directional stability, prevents side-slip, but for foiling boats there needs to be a different explanation, unless it's there to help in the displacement phase.

If the yacht is close enough to the water, in effect the _sea_ becomes the end plate and thus perpendicular to the lifting surface. There isn't much space for air to flow underneath due to the proximity of the skeg to the sea surface in ideal foiling conditions. I think that is what is truly meant by the term albeit somewhat of a misnomer.

If you listen to his wording carefully, he never says the skeg _is_ the endplate. What he says is that it _creates_ an endplate effect by sealing the hull against the water surface, which is correct.

Got it, thanks for the replies. Not completely convinced from an aero point of view, but makes more sense than my first interpretation.
