tbh I truly believe that's what makes Blair easier to root for than Serena, Leighton Meester is just such a fantastic actor that there's so much more nuance in her performance that makes you empathize with Blair's character more.
@@feelingReckless13 people who roots for Blair who faced bully and wishes they could be like her while standing against bully. But Blair is insecure and toxic character who throws things from behind
What’s funny is that Blair’s ok with violence as long as the other person doesn’t hit back but unfortunately for her Serena would hit back and Blair turns into a whiny baby. Lol
You cannot easily befriend Blair, but once you do, you will be luckiest. Blair protects people she loves with her life While serena may be sweet person, but she could backstab you in worse way possible then act all unaware.
The reason Serena can even be friends with chuck and then us because she’s just like them. Maybe even worse we have all seen glimpses of the “old Serena” and she is very manipulative and callus. I wouldn’t go pointing fingers so easily at Blair. I find Blair to be straightforward when she doesn’t like someone. People keep saying Serena didn’t know Blair was in her shadow but we have seen countless seems of her purposely putting Blair down or saying that she “tries” not to outshine her. I’ve seen Blair countless times sacrifice to help Serena but sometimes the feelings don’t seem mutual but then again for me when Blair and Serena aren’t fighting their friendship is actually pretty great
@@melissam597 exactly this. At least Blair , unlike Serena, didn't act like a victim of the messes she herself created. Serena always pretended she was kind. She's like the reverse "nice guy".
The least toxic are Blair and Chuck. But Dan, Nate, Serena, Vanessa. Not to mention that Serena-wanna-be, Juliet. UGH I CAN'T STAND THEM. The only reason I watch this show was because of how funny Blair is.
@@quizbangandedits1134 Even when her and Blair were having problems and not communicating, Serena exhibited toxic behavior as well. It's one thing to sleep with one of your best friends boyfriends, but two of them? Or what about when Chuck tried to give Serena a place to stay because she didn't want to go to college, and she ruined his business meeting to be a bitch. Blair did undergo a character growth, she changed into a business woman unlike Serena who stayed a socialite all her life. In the beginning she hated her mother, in the end she became exactly like her.
@@quizbangandedits1134 It’s not just Serena feud with Blair. Serena some how made everything about herself. I think that behaviour started in mid s1 when she told Lily to not be with Rufus because she wanted to be with Dan (then proceeded to break up with him…?) And then getting upset when she got in trouble for throwing a party for Jenny (which Jenny told her multiple times that she did not want). These types of traits annoyed me so much throughout the show and instantly made Serena an unlikable character for me.
"My whole life I have been bending over backwards to protect your feelings" slept with her boyfriend, backstabbed countless times, ruined the chance of Yale for good and didn't go herself either, and all this while behaving like the sweetheart person with a higher moral. Frankly the only good thing about Sareena was Blake Lively's amazing looks.
@Adrija Chakraborty Blair ruined her own chances at Yale for good when she went after the teacher named Rachel and Rachel outed her to Yale. That was when Yale rejected Blair. But everything else is right.
@@badassvamplover Agree - in fact, Blair ruined her own chances for Yale several times - she came unprepared for the interview (the fact that Serena was there was irrelevant, she should have expected some competition), at the party, she prioritized warring with Serena over making a good impression, and afterwards - the teacher thing. And then she had no backup plan, which is not a sign of confidence - it is simply bad strategizing. It was all a demonstration of a terrible incompetence: lack of preparation, inability to stick to priorities, self sabotaging and lack of a backup plan. At least, at that stage of the show it looked as if she would take some lessons from it, but no, in later seasons she was equally incompetent when it came to all things career.
I understand where you are coming from, but cannot exactly agree with you: Serena was a very, very problematic person, and a huge chaos monger, but she also had something to her, a star quality that was genuine and Blake Lively managed to communicate it perfectly. It wasn't simply the looks - there are plenty of beautiful women in the world, but only very few of them have that something, that charm, and Serena, for all her faults, really had it. Blair on the other hand had a bunch of false claims (post s2) - she pretended she had class, but classy people aren't bullies or at the very least they grow out of it, that she worked hard, and that was not the case, she gave up on stuff after the initial failures, not even taking any lessons from her mistakes, that she was smart, and during her professional development path she had proved that she was not able to adapt or withdraw when needed (NYU), that her commitment to becoming powerful was superficial (she dropped everything to be a princess of a small town, not even a ruler, just a wife of one), that she did not understand power (the Ann Archibald foundation arc), that she was incompetent (the prenup, the fact that she fooled around with Dan when she knew the prenup clause could have been activated at any time). She tried to run her mothers company like a high school clique instead of trying to get some business experience first... She complained, unjustly about standing in the shadows of Chuck and Louis, even though both of them were supportive of her - the first one put her in Columbia (and it was her job to do it, but she was to proud for that) and the second was not responsible for the monarchy structure - she chose to enter it herself, and then she agreed to go with Dan for his job trip, even though she wanted to do something else herself. At the end of the show she is shown running her own company, but I was thinking "Yes, but someone else is actually running the company, because Blair does not know how to manage people, just how to shout at them, someone else is working PR, because she is rude and ungracious, someone else is designing...." etc.
I'm kinda mad that the Gossip Girl reboot doesn't have the same look feel or style at the OG. The new one feels more like Euphoria than it does Gossip Girl.
To be honest I'm glad they updated the style of gossip girl it wouldn't make sense for the new cast to look exactly like the way they dressed in the late 2000s - early 2010s
These two always had such a weird toxic friendship. Who would want friends like that in their life? It bothered me watching their fake love hate relationship, I always wished they would just go their separate ways but of course there would be no show then...
Because rich people protect rich people so they have cliques in case of help. If these two didn't help eachother (as much as they sabotaged eachother) they would be nowhere. That's why the phrase "eat the rich" isn't doable unfortunately, cause they'll protect eachother and create a fort basically so that they're unpenetrated by outside forces. And they stayed friends because they were pretentious silly girls that grew up together and never gotten over the fact that together they thought they ruled the upper society, so that feeling of high and power and fame along with what I said before and along with the fact that they simply deserved and mirrored eachother of course, is why they stayed friends. That's why they had such a love hate relationship. They were different sides of the same coin. The only thing that was different about them is the fact that Serena never looked down on the lower classes. She was not an elitist in the same way Blair was. Blair was purely insufferable and a bιτch to the less fortunate people.
I seriously never understood how these two were ever friends . their personalities were so different it just didnt make any sense . if they werent backstabbing each other or fighting all the time , then it was one was getting drunk while the other one babysatt.
@@quizbangandedits1134 Stfu. You're on every comment bashing Blair. Serena was the root of all their problems. Sleeping with Blair's boyfriend, using Blair to get back at Dan, blasting Blair's personal life on Gossip Girl... The list goes on and on.
Not at all. Blair always had to have the spotlight and Serena always had to down herself otherwise Nlair would get jealous and manipulate something. I love Blair except for when she acts this way, it's annoying and cringe.
@@yukijames1321 no it’s more nate’s fault bc he was less drunk than serena was and he was the one in the relationship. he should have known better, plus he has always had a thing for her, she didn’t have a thing for him. she only did it bc she was drunk, so it’s MORE his fault but it’s still hers as well.

Idk why Blair's insecurity is being cited as the worst quality about her. Like each and every one of us isn't insecure about something or the other while Serena's problems were mostly consequences of things she did and then refused to own upto.
@@quizbangandedits1134 that is still more relatable than Serena's "Oh, I'm just so attractive and nice, everyone wants to be with me or be me." The woes!
Oh, Blair had worse qualities, like supreme hypocrisy and zero self-reflection (post s2). I kept on watching wating for the moment when she sits down and acknowledges all the bulshit she put the people she claimed to care about thru and how she wasted every single professional developement opportunity she had, so that she could have some real character developement. But no, she did not learn from her mistakes. She was great on pointing out how she herself was wronged, though (except for Dan, she was un utter victim with him). So it was like: make a mistake, the fallout, learn nothing, this and this person crossed me, get revenge, move to the next thing. Serena on the other hand did acknowledge her mistakes, but it did not stop her from repeating them over and over again, which was insane.
@@arklul124 Exactly, the type of character she had was not iconic at all. Ppl keep saying how Serena slept with her boyfriends but tbh Blair had no loyalty either and kinda deserves it for she is not a good friend
Blair. Not because she's nicer or more mature, simply because she has a personality of her own. You can't tame or deny Blair Waldorf. Serena with all her charms, her personality changes with every guy she's dating at the time. Always the damsel in distress. Putting her own misery on others, clinging on to "the guy" who's the love of her life(! XD) at that moment. That's the reason that with time Nate and even Dan developed feelings for Blair. Not because of her how her personality is but because she has a strong personality. Serena is just another dreamy blond with legs. Period!
It's interesting how we saw where they both came from in terms of role models. Blair's mom is entirely focused on her career (to a fault) while Serena 's mom seemed to have no career (not that she needs the money) and her life revolves around going from one husband to another, I think they both did truly love their kids though which is why while Blair and Serena may be flawed people they still have good hearts 💕
That "period!" does not stop the "dreamy" adjective, and much less the beautiful stupendous Guinness Record legs of Serena. The "period!" is circumvented, jumped thru, and overwhelmed. I found the "Gossip" series farfetched and silly, ... but those legs kept me watching from the S1E1 to SFEF.
I just adore Blair, she's by far the most entertaining character, but watching this makes me realize that she has serious anger, jealousy and revenge issues. And she is always as conceited as Serena, the difference is that the writers made it funny and last the entire show so we would like that personality trait
Did you guys know that Serena is supposed to be the main character of gossip girl? Me either! I thought it was Blair. Blair is an icon and Blair and Chuck were the main story line for me lol
“My whole life I’ve been bendin over backwards to protect you feelings” of course Serena, and you did it perfectly, since u slept with her boyfriend, tried to annoy her with the Yale situation and threw her face into a cake. Well doneeee!!!

If anything, the comment you left is made more for yourself and your kin, as YOU cannot accept that not everyone idolizes Blair. Yall say “Blair is queen” yet when in an argument with Serena she reveals the most personal stuff. Like, Eric being in rehab or Pete Fareman’s death. Imagine if Serena just outed Blair’s eating disorder.
Exactly. The hate against serena is unbelievable, i mean she did bad stuff but who wasn’t horrible on gg except for Nate? Blair literally sabotaged Serena‘s chances at getting into that Ivy League school by telling the dean that serena killed someone. She told everyone she was a drug addict(even though she wasn’t). Blair was always insecure and serena held herself back in order not to outshine her but let’s face it serena was the itgirl and she just let Blair do whatever she wanted. Blair destroyed anyone who came in her way but ppl never hold her accountable for it bc they find her personality iconic. I love both of them but I believe serena gets unnecessary hate.
No honestly people overlook how twisted blair's character really was, I'm not a huge fan of serena myself but the hate she gets it's over the top when blair is just as bad
Blair looks mean but is actually nice and sweet (especially to her loved ones).Serena looks sweet but is actually a back stabber and a brat more than blair is
They may have had their moments, but they aren't worse than Damon and Stefan. 😂 As Rebekah once said, "the Salvatore Brothers might fight like dogs, but in the end they'd die for each other". Serena and Blair bicker like hell, but they love one another.
@sanayalove9194 why are you lying? The same Blair who struggled to fit in and had Chuck paid someone to take a picture of her? Georgina even outsmarted her. Serena slept with her BFF's boyfriend and then just wants her to be fine with it?🙃🙃 but I also think Blair should've not put all the blame on Serena,Nate also betrayed her and slept with her bff but Blair seems more angry at Serena rather than her ex-fiancé who only wanted to marry her for her money

Serena did do bad things in her past but atleast she tries to change and be nice to everyone unlike Blair who'd literally walk on all those people taking her side on this💀 its also true that serena did always have to compromise because of Blair's silly temper and tantrum throwing nature. Blair would have destroyed every single character of the new GG reboot including the teachers in one episode and Serena would have outshined all of them in both looks and style.
Blair is such a superior original character she took inspiration from golden Hollywood without ever seeming like she was copying and made it her own she had complexity and individuality and a sense of human to her which made her flaws relatable on top of her romance with Chuck Serena seemed like a Mary Sue that nobody liked
To be fair she was much more of a Mary Sue in the books, the show actually improved a lot on her character and at least tried to give her some personal problems and flaws, book Serena partied a lot for example but it was never depicted as a self destructive addiction thing like it was in the show
@@TheIntrospectiveReactor i don’t think chuck did really. even in the 5th season which is the second last one, he sold his own girlfriend for a hotel like she was property. he’s never had respect for women and i don’t think i’ll ever get over the fact that he’s assaulted women before. rapists don’t just “change their ways” they’ll always be like that on the inside. they’re both elitist assholes.
Tbh I think Serena was great in season 1 before everyone around her that was toxic brought out an ugly side in her. She was trying to be better. Dan was also a loser for lying and being an insecure judgy guy. Serena gave him a chance….He fumbled that relationship. Everyone calls Blair queen B but actually she’s so toxic because she’s so insecure and her friendship with Serena is so codependent, Serena needs to dim her shine so Blair feels better. Blair has bully / mean girl energy but a lot of it is based on money and status, not because she actually carries herself with dignity and class. Serena is a true queen before they ruined her character, she was effortlessly cool and fun-loving and kind until people made her not be. I do think they ruined her character but I think she genuinely was trying to change in season 1 and I give her credit for that. She needed to get away from all the toxic people. Maybe she should’ve stayed at boarding school.
My opinions on the og GG endings: 1. Dan and Blair should have ended up together. 2. Chuck was an awful character and no amount of “character growth” is going to erase the fact that he sexually assaulted/harassed Jenny and Serena. 3. Lily and Rufus shouldn’t have divorced over something petty. 4. Vanessa and Nate were good together, but the writers were too lazy to develop a real storyline for them (and Vanessa’s character that had so much potential). 5. Jenny also had so much potential in the show (not as Queen B, but as someone with alternative tastes).
I agree with this so much. Everyone hates Vanessa and Nate together but I thought they were the least non-toxic couple out there. Also, I realised that they really ruined Vanessa character like I enjoyed her for the first few seasons.
Omg everything you said it's wrong to me😅 I respect it tho but I think Serena should've ended up with Nate (she didn't deserve him anyways), Chuck and Blair are like meant to be, and Dan should've been vanished or something from the group like, he literally told ALL THEIR SECRETS and still managed to marry Serena like ¿???
1. Dan and Blair relationship was one of the most problematic ones on the show, and definitely the one which problems were the least signaled or resolved. For starters, Dan brutally manipulated Blair into a relationship with him: he acted as if he had the right to decide who she can be with (ruined her marriage with Louis), very publicly humiliated her, tried to frame Chuck and Serena for it to isolate Blair from them, and then, when he was the only one she had left - he withdrew his friendship unless she would date him - and that was just the beginning. Later he was just a classic toxic 'nice guy', complete with a "Blair is a reward I am owed for my 'good behavior'' speech in s6. He never showed any remorse for that. 2. Chuck's character growth was not supposed to erase anything. Growth does never erase anything you did in the past. But he did grew and it was both Jenny's and Blair's right to forgive him (or not, but they chose to do so). 3. Lily and Rufus divorced because they had mutual respect issues - thru their entire marriage, watch again looking out for these, there are plenty. 4. Agree. 5. She had only like a half character development - the sinking down part, which should be followed by either getting better or a complete collapse, but there was no continuation and it was really weird.
The way I agree on all accounts. Lily and Rufus' reasoning for divorce was so jarring. Also I feel like Jenny was meant to be a regular, but Taylor Momsen had a music career to develop
@@arklul124 Oo definitely disagree on that 😅 and I respect your opinion! To me, Dan and Blair made sense and I never saw him as toxic by any count. I think Blair matured with him, and he was there for her as a friend when she was in-between 2 men (Louis and Chuck). I think it’s the relentless “rock” he was for her was what made me like that pairing, and also what made me confused when they decided on Dan and Serena (who was just a hot mess imo) . On the contrary, I saw Chuck’s endless excuses for his actions a toxic trait that people seemingly ignored because they enjoy watching the “attractive bad boy” type in shows.
Blair- Queen of schemes. Serena- Queen of style. Chuck- King of bad boys. Nate- King of good boys. Dan- King of writers. Jenny- Queen of being hated by fans.
I thought the queen of being hated by fans was Vanessa lol I always thought of Jenny as the corrupted queen. She has so much potential to be great but she lacks focus and discipline to keep to her path and use her power for good and instead let's the power corrupt her. #jmo
I’m sorry but the hate against Serena is unbelievable. It’s way worse to out the fact that Serena is “taking drugs” but in reality it was Eric trying to kill him self then Serena having sex with Nate. I like Serena more but I can admit she’s not perfect but Blair stans act like Blair is perfect when she’s NOT. Both of them are toxic. My blood boils when Serena does something wrong and everyone says “horrible friend” “what a bitch” but when Blair does a million things wrong everyone thinks it’s iconic. And for the love of God Blair does NOT work for everything she gets. Both Serena and Blair are privileged. Both of them have problems, like Blair’s eating disorder, and Serena and her guilt for watching someone die, but it’s like everything Serena does is wrong. If Serena outed the fact that Blair has a eating disorder everyone would go CRAZY. But Blair almost ruined Serena’s future by spying on her and telling everyone she has a drug problem and everyone said Serena deserved it. It’s really frustrating.
@Michelle Appiah some what but I just hated the constant dead ends like everyone loves blair snd chuck he treated her like trash and even when they were dating they were competing against each other. The relationships, all of them they were empty and dan was so negative on serena the whole time
I do too. Serena can be just as nasty as Blair when she wants to be but I appreciated her for being more easygoing and not looking down on people who weren’t rich, unlike blair.
Its sad because in my perspective Blair’s manipulation, gaslighting and bullying are much worse. Yet people vouch for her because she “owns” her actions???
Serena acts all sweet and nice and moral but won't think twice before backstabbing you and will then continue to act innocent and act like she's the victim. And the fact that she gets everything handed to her just because she's "not like other girls" and fun loving and outgoing is so weird and annoying. Blair gets shamed for the same things Serena easily gets away with.
Serena was my favorite character, but both characters were toxic, more or less so in certain situations. But they both have growth, Serena may have not applied her self in school but she had it in her to get real jobs, wanting to shed her party girl lifestyle and start over, be in a mature relationship with a man who had been married and had a teen daughter(who I didn't like), she married the guy of dreams and matured. Blair realizing she's a dictator of taste and giving her her first official line that sold out, she got married to the guy of her dreams, had a son, she matured. It's hard for me to say who was more toxic at which point, because it was a lot..but both characters are like looking into a mirror, I didn't like it when they fought, but joined forces.
I used to feel bad for Blair for being so attached to a horrible person like Serena and having her as a friend, but then I re watched the show and saw what a terribble person she is. I mean she ruined lives. I realised serena and chuck are her Karma. These two literally treated her like your enemies won't treat you, but still she was obsessed with them.
I can’t believe how people find Blair iconic I mean she literally told everyone including the dean that her best fried killed someone (which she didn’t!). She told everyone her best friend is a drug addict. If I had to choose between spending time with serena or Blair I’d definitely go with serena. Blair was a judgy manipulative jealous bitch who destroyed everyone who came in her way and always put it out on serena because she couldn’t stand that serena could easily get whatever she wanted because she was the It girl. Yes serena slept with Blair’s boyfriend but Blair took it all out on her and forgot that Nate was also involved in it. And even when she forgave her she never stopped sabotaging everything serena wanted. She dated Dan even though she knew he was the love of serena‘s life. Now imagine if serena had dated Chuck, what would Blair have done?
Blair is just simply better than serena, she tries her best to protect people she actually loves and cares about, expresses her opinions well and doesnt try to fake to be someone else while serena is just an annoying, manipulative, selfish backstabber who never owns up to the disgusting stuff she does and always tries to make herself look good while throwing her friend under the bus countless times plus blairs lines are ICONIC

Blair may have been insecure at first.. but I love how as the show developed she became more confident and lovable. This girl may have been privileged but she worked her butt off to be successful.
