50 years ago, I sat around at a friend's house (on the west coast)singing along with this as the turn-table spun. Now, here I am, 5 decades later, doing the same thing with a young couple I've never met in OK. Memories revived and mind blown at the same time.
Ken, I'm with ya...I had a b st friend in High School that was a few years older than me...he introduced me to this ..and all the other great rock. And then when I was home in my room..I would lock my door to try to get away from a horrible father....and out in my headphones...and listen to Karen Carpenter, lol. He thought I was a pansy for listening to that music.
@@heathergarrett9836 Good luck with your move. Born and raised in CA,been in N. NV for 30 ys. Best thing I ever did. My Mom was raised in OK. (around Enid) I've driven thru but never lived there. Don't hook up the karaoke if I'm around. I can't stop and nobody wants to hear it.
As I am watching this particular reaction, I had the realization that while the two of you in the last two years have been exposed to an immense amount of fabulous music and great artists, you've never had one of the most important experiences we did growing up with this music. That being experiencing an entire album for the first time. There was something truly magical about coming home from the record store, taking the shrink wrap off the Record, putting it onto the turntable and staring at the Album art and reading the liner notes as you heard those songs for the first time. So many of the songs you listen to are from such classic albums. Like Led Zeppelin 4, or Springsteen's Born to Run, or the who's who's next, or the Eagles Hotel California. I'm not sure how you would incorporate it into the channel, but if you did it would bring you so much closer feeling the music the way we did Growing Up with it. Maybe you can do one album one or two tracks at a time over the course of a week. Generally considered the best rock album of all time is The Beatles Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would be an awesome place to start. Not sure if you want to do this, but Led Zeppelin was always an album band not a singles band, and that's what made me think of this...
If Jay and Amber had the time to do it, Patreon would be the perfect platform for full album reactions. But I'm guessing that juggling reactions with 3 kids takes up more time than they have.
Needless to say, this is a deep rabbit hole to go down. Some other Led Zep songs that are musts include: Kashmir, Immigrant Song, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, In the Evening, The Rain Song, Fool in the Rain, All of my Love. It goes on and on.
I think this makes twenty-one LZ songs you've done (more than ANY other artist or band), and this is one of their best. What a great choice. I think you'd love "The Ocean" for your next one. Great riff.
My absolute favorite Led Zeppelin song! We used to blast this out on the water when we went boating with my parents in the 90s. Reminds me of nothing but good times and summer fun. Houses of the Holy is beautiful from beginning to end.
Absolutely, but then there is also no body's fault but mine. But this one has it all, a bit where the drums come crashing in, an unusual rhythm section, FANTASTIC vocals. everything
I had this album (actually I had them all). Jimmy Page is AWESOME on the guitar. He played on the BBC when he was just a kid. When John Bonham died in 1980 (he drank himself to death), the band broke up. They knew they had something special and that without Bonham, it was over. He was irreplaceable. I remember the day he died. I was a teenager and I actually cried my eyes out.
It’s not simple. It starts out with a six string guitar acoustic. Then they add a 12 string acoustic along with the 6 string, then Robert Plant sings out of Time with the music which is really difficult to do Van Morrison has that same ability. This song is so iconic that nobody has tried to duplicate it.
@@geoffrobinson I figured it out in standard open tuning EADGBE it starts on the open G string with a hammer on and pull off then to the D string with another hammer on and pull off ending with playing the open G string next is the strumming pattern all six strings G major chord next is to repeat all of the same hammer on’s and pull off’s then the next three notes are all on the G string pull off pull off ending with the playing the open G string the the strumming pattern D major chord I need a guitar in my hands. This is much easier if you lean to play G major with your pinky on the high E string anyway I don’t know if there’s any video of Mr Page playing this. The other notes that I didn’t mention are not as difficult. The hammer on’s and pull off’s are played with your index finger and the one next to your pinky. Just remember it starts with a 6 string acoustic and then they add the 12 string acoustic then drums Bass electric guitar while the 12 string is still being played in the mix. It’s one of my favorite songs except for the dissident sound of the middle break but they do bring nicely back in and the song ends in a unique and beautiful way….
@@markgallemore8856I'm not entirely sure that it is really all that difficult to sing off beat, I mean really, listen to modern music and you'll find a lot of "singers" who can't sing on beat. Hell, there are drummers who can't even stay on beat. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
See, that's one of the reasons I love this channel so much...I didn't know this song by name and I was all ready to explore something new with you guys, but turns out I have heard it before and I love it! Thanks for the reaction, always entertaining.
When my husband when back to college years ago, his project for class was to stand in front of the class & perform something. He chose to sing this song . He brought his friend who plays guitar with him, & they totally jammed out to this song. LoL😂 If only I could have been a fly on the wall.😂
Zeppelin is so great At at acoustic , hard rock! This song is one of my all time favorites! Can’t ever go wrong with the Best band ever! So original! There will never be another!!❤️
This album was a bit of a departure from their previous album and included a real mix of songs. You should check out the haunting, ethereal "No Quarter" off this album. It has an absolutely KILLER riff.
"Fool in the rain" by Led Zeppelin should be your next song by them. Legendary drums. It's the shuffle beat that all rock songs are judged by. Kinda like "Roxanna" by Toto. Even has some piano too. Song has a completely different sound than what you usually hear from LZ.
I thought of suggesting RainvSong too after I made my original suggestion of Ten Years Gone. Rain Song is so beautiful. I know they would enjoy it. Especially Amber. ✌️❤️
Can you believe when I was 14 years old I stayed home to listen to my dad's Led Zeppelin albums? I didn't go to the movie theater or the mall when my friends asked to join. No, I preferred to stay at home next to the CD player. I still don't regret it.
This is one of their best songs IMO. I absolutely love it! It’s one of my all time favorite Led Zeppelin songs which is really saying something since they have such an incredible catalogue of songs! I suggest your next next adventure down the Zep rabbit hole should be another one of my favorites ~ Ten Years Gone. ✌️❤️
No getting around Robert Plant's voice. It is extraordinary. The whole band are legends and JPJ is an undoubted genius. Robert Plant also oozed a lot of sex appeal on stage which got a lot of attention but he (and I suspect JPJ) had a fascination for the roots of music and different instruments. Particularly medieval. I think a lot of their stuff comes from experimenting with that. But I'm greedy... would wish they had done another 8 or so albums...
John Bonham was my inspiration to play drums. Great song, love the way Zeppelin would get you started then break out outta nowhere and rock you out. I agree with Jay Plant's bluesy soul shows in his vocals.
Tremendous song! But, I keep wondering, since Robert Plant is Jay's favorite singer, why haven't y'all reacted to his terrific solo career? "Ship of Fools" "Big Log" and more, including winning Album of the Year for a Bluegrass album with Allison Krause. His voice aged like fine wine, becoming even better in Plant's solo career. ❤✌
Totally agree. His collaberation with Allison Krauss is so unlikely yet works so well. The two of them doing "High and Lonesome" is a gem and Plant at 74 years old sounds as good as ever. Give it a listen!
Fantastic song 👌🏽 by Led Zeppelin guys but Jay, Amber🥰 I can not believe you have not reacted to their songs Thank You and The Rain Song please remedy this ASAP! you are going to love them, no seriously you’re going to love them. 🙏🏽✌🏽♥️
Rain Song is my favorite Zeppelin tune. An incredible song, as is almost everything they did. Really hope they get to your 2 suggestions, would love to see reactions to both....and more hopefully
I love reading other people's comments about their experiences. Those of us old enough to remember vinyl albums and the importance that they had on generations is pretty important. It is something most younger folks today did not experience and won't understand buying an album, bringing it home, putting the needle on the record and sitting on the floor in your bedroom mesmerized by the album covers and liner notes, reading the lyrics and listening to the music with such intent & purpose and wanting know every song on the album. Today people are fed songs, specifically designed to you so that you rarely get the full understanding of a band or artist's work. Many times the other songs on an album that radio did not play were so much better. B-sides on 45's were often times some of the coolest songs and we were fortunate to have radio DJ's that had the freedom to play what they wanted, not what corporate radio demanded so we were treated to songs that we may not have heard. Those days are gone and many of us look back fondly on them. Music, thankfully, brings us together and it has been such a treat watching you both grow into the music of the past. Keep it up!
One of my favorite songs ever by this legendary band. How well I recall how wonderful Over the Hill and Far Away sounded in concert at Madison Square Garden on July 27, 1973, I had 10th row orchestra seats and it was one of the most exciting concerts I ever saw. I still have the stub somewhere. Couldn't throw that one out! Yes, Jay, this song showcases both Led Zeppelin's hard side and their softer side.
@@jameshouston2174 What a show! If not mistaken, they opened with Rock and Roll, went into Black Dog, and Over the Hills and Far Away may have been the next song. The entire orchestra was on its feet, in fact, as I recall, the entire orchestra had to stand on their chairs for much of the show. The only time people sat was during Moby Dick. That was the show that the receipts were stolen from Zep's hotel room. I think my friend won the tix from a WNEW FM "next caller" contest.
@@KennyY-bh3zl uncle worked security at the garden….I was also at the infamous Tamps Stadium show in 77….and the riot was not just the fans fault……another great show was The Who in 73….76…..and 79…….the 89 tour was good but just not the same oh the memories……
I'm not 100% sure, but I may have been at that concert. The day the tickets went on sale, it was at 4am in the morning, as the line that had formed the night before got longer and longer along 8th Avenue. We got to the Garden around 11pm. What a shock when we realized that they decided to open up the ticket window. As the line began moving, we could not believe it! My recently departed best friend showed up in a taxi just as the lines began moving. He had driven in from Brooklyn, still in his pajamas, his "Jim Morrison" hair all disheveled, as we yelled for him to see us and join up with us in line. Precious memories!! Rest in peace, Molina ❤
@@lindazee Lindz, I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. May Molina rest in peace. What an exciting time that was. I saw so many concerts at the Garden, the Felt Forum, the Academy of Music, the Nassau Coliseum, the Capitol Theater in Passaic. And tickets were so cheap ($5.50-$7.50), that I bought tickets to see bands that I wasn't even a fan of. Great times.
Led Zeppelin's 1973 album 'Houses of the Holy' is my favorite Zeppelin album overall... Even the weird, odd tune ('The Crunge')... every track is a classic - From 'The song remains the same'... to 'The Ocean'... just killer! 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
My uncle turned me onto Led Zeppelin at age 5 and I’m 54 now still listening to Led Zeppelin and still loving it! My uncle passed away in 2003 and we played Stairway to Heaven and the Rain Song at his funeral. I turned my son onto to Led Zeppelin at 5 and he is 13 now and plays drums just like I did and my uncle sang and played guitar so music is in our blood. Thank-You Led Zeppelin for literally being the soundtrack to our lives!
What I think I like most about Led Zeppelin is that every song, even on the same album, sounds completely different, though you can here any one of their songs and tell instantly that it is Zeppelin.
You two HAVE GOT TO DO Fool In The Rain. It will blow your minds,it's like no Led Zeppelin song you've ever heard before. This is one of my all time favorite Zeppelin tunes, btw.
@@brianmcmaster5112 Me too, definitely. Just starting it from In the Evening and letting it play til the end, did it so many times. For me it's a total experience, the whole album. Ok, not going to lie, I don't love Hot Dog, but they had fun doing it, lol.
I love this song. It's in my top 10 of Zep songs. Jimmy's guitar work is so good. Please do, Bring it on home next. Robert's harmonica playing will surprise you
Another song that's kind of like this and also just a huge fan favorite like this one, is called Ramble On, if you haven't done it already. Everything about it is totally amazing, just like in this one. I love what John Bonzo is doing with that heavy kick drum and closing hi-hat on the off beats, and then combined with JPJ's Incredible bass line, it adds this really funky feel to it but it's still heavy but it's also still light and wandering, it's just a fantastic combination.
In 1974, I was in 6th grade. My teacher was in her first year of teaching. We had a “free day” to do anything we wanted. I brought this album from my brother’s’ collection. My teacher always thought I was a little bit odd or old for my age. She was very fond of me. (just ask me) …. the look on her face when I started to play this album, she was absolutely astonished.
Over the Hills and Far away is heavily Tolkien influenced by The Hobbit more than Lord of the rings when the ring is found by Bilbo Baggins in the Goblin tunnels when Bilbo meets or encounters Gollum. That is how I perceive the song Over the Hills and Far away. It's the metaphors again Hey Lady (the one ring to rule them all) got the love I need, maybe more than enough(The obsession over possessing the ring) oh darling darling, darling, darling walk awhile with me, oh you've got so much, so much, so much, and later on in the song Meddle is the man who knows what he has been missing, many many, men can't see the open road ( Bilbo asking Gollum for directions to get out of the Goblin tunnels). Many is the word that only leaves you guessing, a guessing about a thing you really ought to know know know Really ought to know. (Bilbo playing a game of riddles with Gollum in the dark to get Gollum to show Bilbo the way out). Over the Hills and Far away is one of my favorite Led-Zeppelin songs of all time. I know you guys haven't seen the Hobbit Trilogy yet but I hope that when you do and see that part of the first Hobbit movie, you think of Led-Zeppelin too. Another Led-Zeppelin song to listen to is No Quarter that coincides with Frodo and Sam and the two other hobbits with them being led by Aragorn from the Ring Wraiths to Weathertop . That is how I perceive No Quarter as well. What you just said there Amber about going over the Hills and Far away referring to the song sounds like the same thing Gandalf told Bilbo Baggins in the movie The Unexpected Journey to give Bilbo a nudge out the door. You won't find all the adventure and excitement in your maps and books, the adventure lies beyond the borders of the Shire out there. I couldn't have said it better myself. Hope you guys can make the Tolkien connections in the Led-Zeppelin song Over the Hills and Far away.
Yep. This is definitely one of Led Zep's bestest tunes. I'm not always a fan of Plant's screechy vocals but this is one of the few songs where it actually (kinda) works for me. As always, however; the musicianship is on point. The rhythm section (Bonham and Jones) is impeccable.
This is my 2nd favorite Zeppelin song after Stairway. Both the acoustic and electric guitar work is just incredible. Jimmy Page is a genius. Much love ❤️
Led Zeppelin's music is so multi dimensional. I think it is awesome that you can experience and enjoy yesterday's music. My grandparents probably wouldn't have allowed this album in their house, but that is because they couldn't understand what all the "noise" was about. Like you said, all of the guys in Led Zeppelin could have had a career on their own...so it is so extra special to have all that talent in just one band. They had it all! My older brother is the one who introduced me to "The Who", "Black Sabbath", "Deep Purple", and so much more. I was still a little girl when he was a teenager. I love the 60's and 70's. While there were some very talented bands in the 80's, music styles changed in subtle ways. Thank you for bringing my old albums to life again in this computerized and technological world of today. They did it all without all the tweaking in voice and sound. They really WERE that good that they didn't need it.
Page on the twelve-string is so awesome. This is one of their prettiest songs, that also rocks out. Have you guys done Going to California? Also has a very pretty acoustic feel.
Their best album. The album is "Houses of the Holy." You could do every song on this album and be taken in a different direction. I think you may have already done "D'yer Maker" and or "Rain Song." The Song Remains the Same Rain Song Over the Hills, and Far Away The Crunge Dancing Days D'yer Mak'er No Quarter The Ocean The only song on the album that wasn't a Rock Radio hit was "No Quarter" and it's actually pretty cool also.
Plant is a rock god. Other amazing singers - Brad Delp, Steve Perry, David Draiman , Ann Wilson, Beth Hart, Paul Rodgers, Brandi Carlile ( when she covers Zeppelin tunes - blow you away),Ani DiFranco, Amanda Marshall ...just to name a few.
Oh don't get me started! I could write volumes about my love for Zep! You are so right, each of them are amazing artists in their own right, and when they came together they created magic. Imma total sucker for guitar so Jimmy is my fave member, but I love each of them. I could sit for hours and listen to nothing but Pagey play! There is also a special place in my heart for Bonzo. This song is a particular fave, but if I were to suggest a song that really showcases each of them, it would be "Since I've Been Loving You". That song just drips with passion!
Every time I hear this, I'm transported back to '73, driving around in my car with this album cranked up. And I also think about the girl I had a crush on.
I have all of Robert Plant's solo albums until the mid 1990s, including The Honeydrippers. Lots of great stuff to check out. Page was in The Firm with Paul Rogers in the 80s. In the 90s he was in Coverdale Page with David Coverdale of Whitesnake.
If you wanna see a great band feat. Jimmy Page, Paul Rogers (lead singer of Bad Company & Free) and Chris Slade (drummer from AC/DC) check out The Firm - "Radioactive" or "Satisfaction Guaranteed". They are ABSOLUTE BANGERS!!
Led Zeppelin has some other great songs that feature acoustic guitar. Particularly on Led Zeppelin 3, where half of the album was made using acoustics. A couple of good ones for you to check out are "Gallows Pole" and "Tangerine".
Jay, I agree 💯 with you on Robert Plant’s vocals. If you haven’t done so, you should check out Humble Pie’s Black Coffee or I Don’t Need No Doctor. Steve Marriott brought the heat every bit as much as Robert Plant did! Some folks rank them Marriott then Plant, some Plant then Marriot as the best rock vocalists. I rank them PlantMarriott! Paul Rodgers, Glenn Hughes and Geddy Lee round out my top 5.
Robert Plant has some great Solo stuff after Zeppelin...check out - ( Tall Cool One - 29 Palms - Heaven Knows - Ship of Fools - Big Log - Sea of Love )
Hey guys if you like led zeppelin please check out Greta Van Fleet. I personally know Josh the lead singer and Jake the guitarist🎸 . They are twins and hung out with my son in high school. They spent the nights on the weekends and would bring over their instruments and jam out in my basement. They sound alot like zeppelin. Check out Safari Song or Highway tunes a couple of my favorite
There are many other songs you've reacted to that mix up acoustic and electric guitar. Crazy On You by Heart and More Than A Feeling and Peace Of Mind by Boston come to mind.
Back in my day all the spanish guys used to love this song. In the pool halls.. They would actually say To Spanish Latina's. Hey Mami you got the love I need more than enough.. Be with me I need you in the latina women would fall for it.😅😅😅
It’s a great song, if your into drum Foreman says performances you should check out the “song for the dead”on queens of the Stone Age album. I think you reacted to go with the flow. The whole album is amazing but the drummer kicks it up at notch
Still listen to this in the car today got my 12 year Grandson starting to like Zep the Stones 80 hairbands since he now lives with me and his Grandmother he is being exposed to my (our) music instead of that crap that passes for music today.
You may like Greta Van fleet a young band has some haters but they draw a lot of inspiration from Led Zepplin, And the Rolling stones and the who to name a few. Greta Van fleet is a good band.
Zeppelin always delivered an experience...my dad had this album and played it over and over. Thank you guys for reacting to this, brings back great memories
