Epic Fun/Fail Drifting w/ Cleetus.....Now I Have Zero Oil Pressure

Has anyone else noticed since getting the BMW the bill on Jeremy’s hat has slowly been getting flatter lol Excellent video!!

Pull pan, fix oil pump drive... Like 45min repair. Had an m62 where the oil pump drive chain almost fell off.

More stuff for you to ponder if not already being done. List of 10 cheap mods. 1. Drill out the airbox and put a K&N filter in. wash out the oil bath . 2. Remove the cat, or hollow it out. Put non fouler on the o2 sensor inserts and reinstall o2 sensors so it dont trip. If it does it just runs rich. 3. Remove the clutch fan and put electric in. If you are red lining you will lose a blade anyways. Good idea to do or will break a lot of stuff later. 4. Change the final ratio at the differential. Reduces top speed, but for drifting it's perfect and while you are in there. 5. Weld the diff. 6. Remove the Clutch Delay valve. This is a must! 7. Remove the traction control assembly. 8. Remove the exhaust back pressure valve. or jam it open. This affects low end torque, but can jam shut and hurt top end. 9. Remove the water hose on the throttle body and bypass. 10. Remove most of the interior and sound deadening mats. 11. Get 70 degree thermostat. amzn.to/2SXunrm All of these are cheap and easy to do except the diff change. That's still cheap just tedious.

I already knew this was going to happen sooner or later lol a $10 drilled nut that bimmerworld & turner motorsports sells with a wire to help it secure it to the wheel would of save the engine lol but go ahead and take off the oil pan the nut is most likely chillin there put it back on the pump and it might still be good

Pop your pan off and you will see the oil pump pulley is off. I had this happen to me on several BMW's. The gennie symbol light came on. The oil pump pulley nut comes off from the vibration at high rpm. I dropped the oil pan to replace the pump and discovered the pulley had fallen off on the first one. Now I just know that's the issue. When you put the nut back of ding the threads at the end, so it won't happen again. It's a pain to pop off but I am certain this is your issue. Your engine is probably fine if you did not drive too long after.

Oh yes! That's my tuner! That's funny as heck, I love that this channel always has clean language. I occasionally curse but it doesn't have to be every other word like some channels.

I have a 95 BMW M3 that I have debated putting an LS into it... nope not done with it yet. I have new headers and a reamus exhaust on it! Loving your attitude with this car. Have fun!

On the bottom of the oil filter cap is 2 orings that also like to crack. They block off the oil drain for the housing, and if they break your oil pressure goes straight back to the pan through that drain.

Don't trust just wire locking or spot welding the oil pump pulley, it won't work. I got through 3x 330 engines in a very short space of time from drifting. Car was great, but engine was not. If you weld the nut or wire lock it on, you WILL shear the shaft instead. Which is what happened to me. You need an uprated oil pump, like they use in the 330 challenge race cars in the UK etc

Hey boys. I have the same car but heavily modded turbo. Common fault at high RPM is the oil pickup tube cracking at the bend, also the nut on the oil pump cog loves coming loose. Most likely the issue. Both fixed by removing the oil pan

dude killin it guys and Cleetus teachin as well nice, if your not breaking shit your not learning keep practicing you'll get there. by the way there is heaps of performance parts just replace the main and conrod bearings then build the mad power no point in getting another engine when you have one that still works for now.

Just fix the engine... no LS swapping. .. it's a great engine... you could put a supercharger on it... works great... in Holland it's a widely used engine in drifting... love to see u guys getting your drift on ... God bless brother greetings from a Dutch fan

WWCD (what would cleetus do), just overfill the crankcase with oil, add some slick50, it'll be fine, the clacking noise is just there as a back up audible warning that that you have low oil pressure in the event you don't notice the oil light.

A thicker (higher viscosity) oil will increase your oil pressure, but usually starves the top end. You should always use the recommended viscosity.

This is a fantastic hobby. Probably about as safe as motorsports can get with the lower speeds and flat runoffs.

9.50 Cletus hits concentration mode boost face engaged full pull style

Jeremy, you are struggling with the driving position, raise the seat about 6 inches. Recaro GP90's are a great seat, but you need to be strapped in for decent support. The steering ratio is way too slow. Have a look at a steering quickener, I use a Howe with 1.5:1 gears and like it. 2.0:1 is available and with power steering might be better. These make keeping up with car in a slide much easier. M52 has a massive flywheel. Try a much lighter one, RHD Engineering does a chrome moly one which is 7 pounds. Night and day difference. Great project, your son seems to like it as well!

Oil pump nut. Wire or tac weld the nut on. High revs she comes loose. Very common to happen when romping on it.

I have seen oil pump bolts come loose on bmws. Gotta get in there and brake clean/red loctite and torque stuff back to the continum transfuctioner in the vortex.

M50 series of engines are prone for bad oil pumps! It's the pump it self ore the pressure regulating valve that is on the same housing as the pump, underneath the crank!

Not one Scandinavian flick was had on this day.

If I were you, Id go find a non-vanos m50. Take the rotating assembly out of your m54 and have a set of cheap forged internals to make a budget 3L stroker. You know what a cast iron, non-vanos m50 loves. Boost. You'll gain some compression with the m54 bits, but with a thicker headgasket that is easily fixed. Would make for some great content as well.

NA ls swap and be done with it. Love seeing the shear joy on Jeremy’s face learning something out of his comfort zone.

M54 engine has problem with the oil pump nut backing off in the sump , I think vac motor sports sells revised nut or just lock wire it after tightening , there reverse thread.

Uh oh M54 oil pump.. more than likely the nut's span off, or the end of the shaft has sheered. so long as it's not done the death rattle, GSR mod on the pump and all should be good again.

I have a video on my channel about bmw m54 engines with low oil pressure when hot. But yours seems to have no flow at all. Sounds like the nut on the sprocket has come loose.

Yupp, oil pump nut. $10 at turner motorsport. My buddy’s 330Ci JUST threw the oil pump nut at sonoma winterjam 2018 and he lost all oil pressure

Those early vanos engines are really picky about oil level … easily gets air in oil pump , when you shift weight from side to side , and it will easily make an airlock in oil channels and spin an bearing on bottom end as an result. Hence you should all ways have slush walls in your oil pan , no matter what engine , what car .. just make them if you have to .. before you go trash them for no any good reason what so ever. Heck the issues was there all ready on m10 blocks ( 2002 models onward ) more commonly on e21 and e30 4cyl engines as their oil pan was smaller anyway. I have broken few by my self as well back in the day when i was younger. Broke my first BMW engine from my first e30 , back when i was driving it home after buying the car .. got lovely rod knock out just after few donuts .. But in the end , i was driving it again after 6 days. I found new bottom end for around 100 bucks . spent 60 on leveling the block and head .. then ported it and did some small adjustments on head chambering .. stiffer springs on valves while all so replacing seals and so forth.. the bottom end was only 60k km driven .. so it was like new after that.. and little bit more lively as well .. did not have much power tho.. around 140 - 150 hp but it did not drink much either. Was ok car to feel that freedom what your own wheels brings to you. Damn .. that is nearly 20 years ago all ready.. fck this time flies fast.. still feel young tho.. and after all 36 aint the end of the road even as youngster i never thought that id live this long with the driving habits that i had before i calmed down.
