I'm sure there are people enjoying it but I'm talking about the people in the camera shot who are walking right past and not paying any attention, it's a shame!
Chris Denison context...music and art create vulnerability...people in daily life are in a different mode...more respect for the performer to lay his soul out even if it's a cover only the hear a few claps.
+Chris Denison I don't always stop or watch because you cant give money to every performer there and there are many. Then come the charity workers running at you in my town to get cash we have about 20 or more in a small place that run at you and you can run from them but they will run faster, it's scary. so, you have to walk past quickly sometimes. I want to stop and listen, yet I don't always want to hand out my bus fare to walk home either. or you get the are you going to pay for listening stare. so, appreciating it is difficult.
Been watching this video for years wanting to replicate Jack’s spin on this beautiful song. One day, when I can afford lessons, I’m going to pickup playing seriously, just because of this cover
i stopped by and spend my 10 minutes of listening to music here today ... those that walk passed should spend more time here ... awesome ... my 10minutes well spend ...
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...you communicating to the world with your guitar in the midst of all the hustle & bustle....classic :)
This is absolutely amazing....Fantastic job.... great stamina too ... my fore arm never would have survived all of those hammer ons and pull offs .... BRAVO!!!!
You guys should accredit the artist who wrote the song. That is kind of messed up to say it is by Jack Man Friday when he didn't write it. The song was written by John Butler as nearly everybody here has mentioned
Jeff Porcaro Groove Master, you didn't read the poster's reply to my comment did you? It initially didn't have that in the title. He changed it after enough people like me bitched about it.
After seeing a performance of this from 4 yrs prior, the lad just keeps getting better. Looks like he's finally feeling what he's playing instead of just copying it. Keep it up Jackmanfriday!!!
This guy is an incredible guitar player. Truly amazed. Whether or not he wrote the music doesn't matter. The mere fact that he can play this is incredible.
This isn't difficult. Anyone who has been playing guitar seriously for a year can master this song in no-time. It just sounds hard. And take it from me. I can play the song way better than him, and i have videos on my channel to prove so.
What city is this? I want to live there... I've never seen such a nice street with no cars but so many well dressed and good looking people walking by. While some people live in less fortunate places, others live in a city where a handsome guy plays his guitar with his heart, out on the street, and the street is 'civilized' enough for many people to actually hear his music. What a fantastic sight. Looking at scenes like this enables me to visualize what kind of world we're trying to build.
Santa Monica... Sydney... or it could be some Scandinavian countries... or it could be somewhere in Swiss. But it couldn't be somewhere in Asia, definitely... Not Dhaka for sure. Not even Tokyo... Doesn't really matter exactly where this place is. It could be on the moon for moon's sake. Or it could be on another planet on another solar system in another galaxy. But it looks nice.... that's all I'm saying. And I'm jealous. Yeah... that too... I wish I lived in a city like that.
I'd love to master the percussive aspect of guitar playing, as in this video. In fact...I'd just love to be able to play like this in general. Give me a couple hundred hours of practice and I might be on the right path. Great cover dude.
Why are there so many negative arseholes in the world? Looking at comments here and realise why most musicians are sitting at home doing nothing except be jealous. Enjoy this great cover and performance and try doing something yourself besides whining.
There are no grammatical flaws within my previous comment. Back to the subject though, you have no idea what you're talking about. No one who plays guitar seriously will be jelous of his skill. In fact, i can make you able to play this song within a year (better than him) even if you haven't even touched a guitar in your entire life. Think i'm bullshitting? Check my covers of this song. I know what i'm talking about.
I do actually play the guitar and I sing. I do it for a living and have been for 15 years. I may not be as good as you but I have a better attitude than you. The way you say things does prove that guitar players are cocky opinionated crybabies.
I actually think this sounds MUCH better then John Butler. Surprisingly this 6 string has more notes and sounds fresher then Johns 12 string....that, and being played on the street just adds more effect....this is way better then John Butler
This is a real musician. People like him arent trying to be famous They just love music. For them its not an option or a choice its who they are &what they are. You can see the pure joy in his face :)
man i love seeing people immersed in their music. fck whats going on around them at that moment it's just them and the music. makes me want to be able to play an instrument
Hey folks! Thanks for all the comments and feedback! Great song by a great artist. After a few years I've made an updated, studio-grade cover - you can check it out on my channel if you'd like! Peace Jack Shepherd
+Rob GnasherNoob Just playing a cover on the street mate, I didn't put the video up or take credit for it, though I appreciate that my playing of someone else's material is at least evocative enough to generate this viewership. To that end, please spread less hate in the world, there's enough ignorant hate already without having it applied to music, of all fucking things. Yes, I have three lines tattooed on my arm and played loads of fingerstyle for a long time because I was inspired by John. Played lots of his material etc. I'm not hiding that, and I'm always sure to credit the artist where appropriate if I play a cover - I don't know what your problem is but whatever it's source is the problem with the creative industry today - it's apparently much easier to criticise than appreciate, and at least to my eyes it seems that empathy towards somebody who creates in any capacity is worthless next to a seed of apathy.
+Rob GnasherNoob listen to the music......keep your mind quiet....you might learn something about music.....about life......about yourself...about peace.....
Even if he's covering John Butler's music, this guy knows what a guitar is. I wonder how many people "criticising" this can actually play the guitar only one third of what he does.......
A lot of covers lack the original "spirit" or essence, magic if you will ... but I would have to say Jack is on the level where you don't just hear the similar line of tones in order to form what a scientist would call a song... he captures something deeper, more profound .... Great Job man... truly beautiful
I have this random fantasy that one day I'll come across a street performer like this and be able to just sit down and jam out with him/her and have a good time lol I've actually been playing for a few years now and I still haven't played guitar WITH someone yet.
kudos to the video editor who filmed him in front of a green screen and then edited in the scene of pedestrians behind him. ya we can hear random voices in the mix, they are probably his small audience watching him or edited in to the final mix. pretty elaborate for a simple performance of a guy and his guitar.
He reminds me of that Korean guitarist on youtube! He plays and makes his own pieces with todays songs and putting a twist in them. He actually got famous, and is having concerts around the world. He could be like him! Definitely should put up a youtube channel.
thanks!! I was looking for the name John Butler!! when I heard the song I knew it was that "ocean" one. it's better when John plays it with the 11 string guitar...
