A is nice and rich, however a crappy floor pass chime. B is very nice. C is also very nice and rich, but low on oil. D is very Schindler 330-YAY-ish, with Dover BUZZ. E is also like D, without the buzz. F starts out with G-sharp, the pn slows down a bit to G.

The AC power frequency in the US is 60Hz. This results in the motor running ever-so-slightly slower than 3600 RPM (60 rotations per second). The pump produces a slight variation in output pressure either once or twice per rotation, depending on the design. If the pump is direct-drive or connected with a 1:1 belt ratio, the variations in pressure will happen at about 60Hz or 120Hz, both of which are approximately B-flat but in different octaves. Any pump with a different pitch is most likely being driven by belts arranged such that they drive it faster or slower than the motor. For example, a 2:3 arrangement would cause the pump to spin at about 5400 RPM, producing vibrations at 90Hz or 180Hz (between F and F-sharp). Finally, it is possible to get motors that spin at speeds that are 3600 RPM divided by some whole number (1800 RPM, 1200 RPM, etc.) producing yet more different pitches.
