Pondering on crafts which require talent over skills and practice, photography (stills) comes to mind as one of the most critical. You never have time to plan the shot and fiddle with the camera; you must have the talent to grab the perfect picture without thinking. Video is almost the same, except that you must put in A TON of work filming and editing, always. I’d say Vernon that this particular video hits the nail in so many aspects. Great, great episode mate. Loved this big passage Vernon, can really relate with your thoughts on time and space to be present. I often curse not having a functional auto pilot, in reality it forces me to be still and present. As someone who is always moving physically and mentally, having to sit behind the helm offers moments of peace and opportunities to reflect. Yet another unreal part of cruising full time.
The rocks you where looking at are an iron/manganese(?) rich laterite. These rocks are formed as a weathering product of the underlying strata. If it contains manganese you might want to peg a lease and start mining it! 😂. Similar manganese deposits are found on Groyte Island (NT) and also scattered through the Indonesian archipelago.
Thats a lovely boat, the ease of speed it produces is remarkable really, much much better than a mono. I wonder where the plugs are for that model Crowther, it's not like I've seen tons of this model, although it may be a different thing up there in the top end and east coast of Oz. Perfect size in my opinion for a couple, not too big so keeping costs lower. You need to tow a lure get some fresh fish on the way
Yeah I feel I was quite lucky to find this boat. Not many like it for sale anywhere in the world. I fishing gear I have I took over from Schiehallion and it doesn’t really work that good on this boat. Think I need different gear as I’m going on average much faster.
We’ll be doing some sort of comparison video early next year. Not a massive difference really, trade runner is really a very easy boat to sail. My feeling is I’d rather be in Schiehallion solo if the weather was terrible.
We don’t have starlink. If you watched the video you’ll see I totalled about hours of just pondering, letting the mind run…. I’d never have that if I was connected to the internet everywhere on earth. My ais was on and vesselfinder etc tracked me all the way to Lombok, where the boat is now. The videos are about 2 months behind.
