Funny how that guy says the single hook causes less damage to the fish as he gets the fish all sandy... Loving the saltwater videos you guys keep putting out, hope you can keep it up!
He said the barbless hooks cause less damage which they do and how does sand hurt the fish, I’m pretty sure a treble hook is a lot worse then some sand.
The trouble is now Graham that most airlines charge stupid amounts for even the smallest rod tube where at one time they were included with holiday luggage, I always take a Shimano Exage 3lb test multi section rod that fits nicely inside the suitcase, there no longer made but you can still find them on EBay , Bison also make a 7 piece 3lb tc rod and also a beachcaster while Acer also produce a good quality surf rod and if you’re really feeling flush you could try and lay your hands on a Shimano Beastmaster , but there that expensive that I don’t that “she who must be obeyed “ would talk to you for the rest of your holiday …………great video I really enjoyed it.
I used to take 80 wides and 50 wides plus about 20 marlin lures on as hand baggage.I even got a 12lb lead downrigger ball aboard on a Big Game fishing trip I was filming in Kenya..Plus of course a bunch of rods in a carpet tube down the hold ....good old days....Not going to happen today I fear.
Awesome video. I have a smiple question for you, What if you dont see any flying over head does that mean that there arent any large fish in the water. I know the birds are after the small fish. please help understand this. im dying to go out and start shore fishing as soon as the weather here in south florida gets warmer.
Never grab a fish by the gills if you are catch and releasing, its their breathing system. Rather grab the tail and cradle etc and keeping them in the water is much better than dragging them on the beach. I may be wrong but that is what I've been taught all my life.
grabbing a fish by the jaw line through the gill cover doesn't harm the gills at all, but with some species watch out for this gill rakers which are really sharp. Holding the fish in this way allows you to hold it securely but safely - when unhooking pike for example it is essential. I would agree however it is better not to drag the fish over the sand
hi Graham 1st off love the show I'm from phil's neck of the woods in morecambe and yes arnside is 1 of the best flattie bashing places there can be but why would you swap a treble hook for a single I'm going to give spinning for the elusive bass a go this year so any tips would be gratefully accepted all the best and tight lines keep up the good work. ps where can I get a Taf hoodie from lol
i watched few ur vids and i enjoyed while learning quite a lot about saltwater fishing, i tried beach fishing once and got addicted... can you post video about how to retrieve/jig different type of lure ??.... im still learning how to use lure for fishing, sorry for this noob question
+MrJake365 Sounds like you need bigger baits.Maybe fish baits ? I would check with your local sea fishing club and get some of the experts opinions on what species you should aim for. Have you tried using shrimps off a pier to catch smaller fish, then hook up and cast one of those out for bait ? Ask to talk to the guys who specialise in species like Kingfish.I am sure they will tell you what fish bait to use.
If not try willows farm. Those are the fisheries I fish and wanted to see how you will go on about it. + I'm still a beginner and wanted tips. Thanks krys
I really recommend the penn reels. If you are just going one time, just get a ugly stick big water combo and that will work for a day. But if you are planning to get really into the sport, a good starter combo is the penn pursuit. I have the penn battle combo, and i love the real. But, that is 120 bucks of course.
It depends on your budget, if you have a big budget 1,000-2,000 dollar budget go for a st. Croix or a G loomis rood and a shimano stella or a daiwa saltiga, a medium budget (200-500) go for a g loomis or st.croix and a daiwa saltist, or shimano stradic, if you have a small budget 100-200 dllrs, buy a penn combo
+derrick ? about half folk love it and say its great, half hate it, the biggest problem is they can be infected with a very nasty infection called ciguatera which releases a severe toxin in you. i would avoid eating them unless i knew locals said it was ok....even then I would be careful.
Nope. They don't taste good meat is often on the tougu side and bit more fishy strong in flavour, I don't like any trevally. Yellow spot, Malabar, golden, also the diamond trevally /Indian threadfin fish is kind of on the fishy side but still better than all other trevalleys. I'd much rather eat a king mackerel or cobia, but top tier fishes have to be grouper at top and followed by snappers and breams
could you go to torquay in Devon as I live there and would like to see you do it I would say go to hopes nose as lots of fish there but I've heard you have already been to Torquay if you have can you link me the video thanks and apparently you went to tidal tackle my local tackle shop so thanks either way!
I’m like 95% catch and release sometimes if I catchy a big fish I’ll put it back then go to the fish market and buy the fish. I think it’s because I would rather take a already dead fish then take another fish out of the ocean and there still be the already dead fish at the market
@@derpyplatypus1172 yea i suppose to a degree. Doubt its wasted as its got $ invested in that dead fish. Will turn to cat food if no one buys it. Somehow will be used. Problem I have is the quality of the fish versus fresh. Not a big fish eater anyway, but would rather eat a fish I caught an hour ago versus one thats been frozen or been sitting who knows where or raised in a farm full of antibiotics. Either way there is some studies that show you need to cull some fish in order for the bigger ones to thrive. take off some pressure so to speak, mostly in ponds. the ocean is pretty good and i agree commercial fishers need to be more responsible or limited more but would need more info to speak to that.
+Aquatic Variation nice. even blues at that smaller size give a decent fight. i was throwing poppers on a 10ft rod 50lb braided line earlier in the spring when the blues were coming in the inlets. the action was crazy my biggest one of the week was 34" 14lbs
if you dont have massive fish in you local sea then a 8 foot rod is more than enough for shore casting, it just has to be very thin and flexible because if its heavy and not flexible then you will not be able to cast those very light swim lures out to a distance, most of them are not havier than 20 grams so you need proper shore casting rod with small very shallow spinning reel. and you must need braid and i recommend no more than 20-30 pound test, because then thinner the line the more distance you will get on you cast. and you dont need 50 pound braid to catch big fish, you can catch fish upto 10kg on 20lb test braid, u just have to fight the fish on drag and not just crank in like crazy. remmember you need small shallow reels for braid. not the deep winding reels which are used for mono lines. those will take 100s and 100s of meters of braid to fill them up to capacity
+Tikks Koroi I was on 40lb Sidewinder silk, two others in our group had 80lb,just a Chinese cheap make, but they really rated it highly. It was black and the dye sprays all over your shirtfront when a fish rips off the first couple of times. We were wondering they bothered dying it at all.Don't know the make though.
+Tikks Koroi I don't know the latest makes. You would need to either check on a fishing forum and see what other anglers favour,or trust your local tackle dealer.
+Kevin Bretscher i was fishing at sanibel island in florida and i pelican got hooked on my line. another time i caught a puffer fish, a crab clamped on its tale, and a pelican tried to eat it while on my line
Its not the gills, they are internal, its called the opercular cover. Some Jacks and Gamefish have what are called "Scutes",a secondary caudal keel at the wrist of the tail.If you don't know they are there you could have problems lifting them by the tail.
Its not a bait, its a lure. Impossible to use bait there as the shoals of Triggerfish strip it to the bare hook in minutes. They even shred rubber lures.
