Legit spears are way more effective than swords. It's kind of like the difference between a handgun and a rifle. Swords where worn often for self defence but when a real fight begins they pull out the spears. Sword fights look much cooler though so that's always gonna be a thing in movies.

Staff/stickfighting: Jogo do Pau, Canne du Combat, Palcaty, english singlestick, quaterstaff, halfstaff etc Longsword: italian, german, Czech and english styles etc Saber: British, german, French, Polish etc. Rapier: French, italian, spanish etc. Greatsword: Portugeese, italian, german And the usage of fire arms wich is also a martial art (Marksmanship) And if you wish to learn swordfighting then try to find a HEMA club (Historical European Martial Arts)
