This video is spectacular! Excellent job on your analysis. For 2024, I let my Disney Annual Pass expire in Feb. The ONLY Disney park days I have for this year is 5 days in Disney Tokyo. I'm spending my ENTIRE 2024 WDW budget in Tokyo in November just to ride "Splash Mountain" again. My entire 2025 WDW yearly budget will be diverted to Epic Universe and I'm getting THEIR annual pass for the first time in my life. (after 26 straight years of having a Disney AP) I literally have ZERO Disney parks days planned for 2025. If you had told me I was going to to this a few years ago?...I'd have called you a total liar. Yet,...here I am. Wow. 😞

I think you nailed it! I've been a WDW fan girl since my first visit at age 14. (For reference, I'm 47 now.) I fell in love & NEVER thought that would change. I desperately want my beloved parks back. I WANT to give Disney my money. But it has to be within reason, & it has to be earned. They can't charge top-tier prices while delivering sub-par experiences & expect everyone to go along with it. If I just want some fun rides at a dirty, understaffed, poorly maintained park with no ambience, I'll go to Six Flags. At least their ticket prices are reasonable, & it's only a 45 minute drive away vs. a 2.5 hour flight. Universal has put out some great attractions in the last few years... & a couple of stinkers, to be fair, but the good far outweighs the bad. Epic Universe looks incredible, & it didn't take them a million years to build it.

Yes!! Totally agree - we definitely try to be fair on both sides and call Universal out as well if they drop the ball. But overall they just keep getting wins! Very well stated. Disney seems to have lost its mojo. When it comes to caring about their guests. They've gotten rid of so many of the perks that they had that made people want to come to Disney. No more free fast pass, the Holliday events are ticketed separately and you're getting less nice things for more money, etc. If Disney were to lower their prices (which I doubt), bring back free fast pass, extended park hours for all the hotel guests, etc, then Universal will have to do something quick to get more people to come to their parks.

My last visit was July 2022. I took the opportunity to speak with multiple families (I'm a friendly guy) and was shocked to hear from so many (pretty much everyone I spoke to) that this would be "their last trip" or their "last trip for a while." The reasons were common to all: Cost, Complications that ruined spontaneity, and Disney's changing cultural choices. While this was hardly scientific, my takeaway was "if people are this open about their disdain WHILE spending time at the parks, that's never a good omen for any purchased product."

Yeah great insight Noah! It goes to show that the sentiment isn’t really isolated that it’s farther reaching than people realize! 👏🏼

I was just there. I was very upset and the cast members could care less. Here we were paying all of this money and could barely ride key attractions due to there exclusionary virtual queue, Genie + and Lighthing Lanes selling out in less than 20 seconds. We spent the whole time panicked on our phones, crisscrossing the parks to catch inconvenient ride times and sometimes racing between parks. It was hot and stressful. My sister is a Disney adult and I am over it.

@TheItachiIshtar
@TheItachiIshtar Месяц назад
I do have to wonder if the declining attendance will get so bad for Disney, that they have no choice but to cave into the demands of bringing back free Fastpass. It would be a very easy way to win back guests. Many think Disney makes way too much money from Genie+/Multipass to ever revert back, but enough good will could go a long way. A break glass in case of emergency gambit. It's becoming clear that guests are tired of the penny-pinching that has been going on at the resort in recent years. Guests might have been willing to spend all of the money and deal with Genie+ at the time of revenge travel, but perhaps feel less inclined to return and won't spread good word of mouth to other potential guests. If attendance is this low right now in the peak Season of Summer, a year before Epic Universe has even opened, then it could get real ugly for them if they don't do something really bold to woo people over again. And it's gonna take a lot more than announcing "we are building a few new attractions here and there".
@TheNobleWay
@TheNobleWay Месяц назад
Yes for sure! They need some serious big wins right now and with D33 around the corner I expect some big announcements! 👍🏼

@HerbertFOsle Месяц назад
My daughter seems to agree. She loves Disney. Hasn't been to Universal in years. Especially that most of the rollercoasters go upside down and due to back issues she can't go on the more exciting rides. It does seem that Universal is starting to understand theme park attendees much better than Disney. What Disney needs is a miracle. (I doubt that this would happen but, I'm going to write it anyway) If Disney were to bring back at least some of the free perks then things will start looking better for Disney. Again, I doubt that'll happen since they're more interested in making money and less into making their guests feel special.

I just subscribed. I find your analysis and presentation skills to be strong. We were first time Disney APs when COVID hit. The annual passes and partner hotels were reasonably affordable. for a family of three. When things returned, Disney's attitude changed. First year post COVID, we spent a year with Legoland/Peppa Pig since our daughter was four years old. I personally feel that for kids 4-6 there is not a better park and family value. Then we did a year at SeaWorld and really enjoyed that. And then moved up to Universal with APs ending in November 24. All three parks offered good value, imo. I just don't see it at Disney, plus standing in 2hr plus lines is not enjoyable. Universal simply fights harder to provide value than does Disney. From 15 month passes for the price of 12, monthly payment plans even for non-Floridians, or hotels with unlimited express passes. They provide a better value. I know Universal will need to maximize their return on Epic but I have more faith that me (and my money) will be treated with respect than what Disney thinks of me.

Been going to Disney yearly since 2009, stopped completely in 2019 after what my family calls the “Disney Decline.” Been going to Universal yearly since 2012 and haven’t looked back once. Such a better overall fit for me and my family. We are theme park junkies and have been to over 20+ theme parks. Universal studios/Islands is the only thing that beats Kings Island for me! Some of my favorite rides are at Universal. Always struggled to ride the Disney rides multiple times in a day as I didn’t get the thrill. Great video and like yourself I like the stats and figures. Made me wonder why Disney went on this reservation system when the stats clearly shows attendance is down. It is inconvenient and a pain for many guests who didn't know about it. Disney took too much stuff away and added too much nickel and dime charges that it would have to have a backlash on them in the longterm. You brought that up and like yourself I felt this would come back to bite them and yes, you are right, I believe we are seeing that now. Disney needs to get the crowds excited again. D23 is coming up. If Disney doesn't 'wow' the people from this event they will suffer. This is where Universal is excelling. They have the 'WOW' factor. People are excited about the new exciting attractions.
@TheNobleWay
@TheNobleWay Месяц назад
Spot on Don! All the nickel and dime stuff is really turning people off and also how complicated they have made things! One of the core benefits of Disney used to be the ease and comfort of the overall experience and now the stress level and complicated systems like Genie Plus are frustrated so many. I’m looking forward to seeing what D23 brings but also worried it might be a let down, crossing my fingers! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Now there is another key factor to consider, when it comes to Disney's attractions vs. Universal's. Disney's attractions are a lot more accommodating for plus-sized guests, while many of Universal's attractions are infamous for not being nearly as accommodating for those types of guests. Hopefully that is something Universal can work on for future attractions, and maybe even modify the restraints on their current attractions down the line.

Disney themselves explained why the turn to Universal is happening in one of my favorite movies being Monsters Inc. the scene I’m talking about is when the one. Monster comes out of the bedroom where the kid was listening to heavy metal music. He said that kids just aren’t being scared anymore. Kids these days dont want the soft rides like dumbo and Aladdin’s carpet. They want the simpsons, transformers and Harry Potter. And they want this at a younger age. Disney needs to shy away from princess type movies and cater to the more wild kids of these modern days.

Very well stated. It's sad what's happening at Disney. Things are becoming very subpar. The food isn't as good or as affordable as it used to be. The way I see it is as follows. Disney should bring back all the perks for staying at one of their hotels (extended park hours, early park hours, free parking, etc.) They should build a 5th park that tailors more to people over the age of 10. They should also consider fixing the rides that keep braking down and refurbishing the most older of the rides that haven't had a refurb in years. I doubt that there will be a 5th park at Disney. I doubt that they'll bring back all the perks for the hotel guests. I doubt that they'll lower the prices ever for everyone. I doubt that they're thinking about making rides that tailor to people of all ages.

Ever since they’ve been removing/altering attractions and gaslighting guests into believing that they’re the issue, I’ve given up. Tianas bayou adventure is a total slap in the face from them and the straw that broke the camels back for many people. The fact that a company that was never divisive has managed to split their own audience and turn them against eachother just shows how cruel and borderline evil the current board is. Out of habit and nostalgia and hope I renewed my Disney AP. I haven’t been to any Disney park in over a year. But I also carry a Universal AP and I’m in one of their parks every week. Sometimes more. I don’t think my tiny experience is very different from many here in Central Florida. Disney has lost the luster and Universal was ready to step it up. I hope for a Disney resurgence but I’m not overly optimistic that will happen. The decline is worsening and that makes me so sad for Walt and his dream.

I agree. Disney has lost their touch. Things were ok before Iger left. Then things started to get more expensive and the quality wasn't there as much. Now Iger is back but, he seems to have lost touch with reality. If Disney where to bring back all the perks that they got rid of for people staying on property, if Disney were to lower their prices all around (not just ticket prices,) if Disney where to make rides as family friendly as Guardians, if Disney cared more about the quality of their food, treated park guests like family, and respected their cast members more than Disney's popularity would go through the roof again. But, I doubt that's gonna happen. SAD!!!!!

Thumbs up except for blaming all cut backs on chapek. I heard long before chapek that there. Also it was while Iger was CEO the first time that they implemented parking fees at the resort hotels. I wouldn't be surprised if over was the one who had first talked about no magical express to the other heads and chapek just adopted the plan. Under Iger many other disasters and cutbacks at the parks happened. Even pre 2020, the parks cut back house so in summer instead of enjoying more hours at MK while a bit cooler and staying past midnight, they started closing much earlier. He is the one that decided to virtue signal and destroy one of the most popular attractions in the world and look at Epcot. Mostly a miss despite all the money spent. Iger is back and if didn't like what chapek supposedly did, then he could do things like bring back magical express. Plus Iger really never left. He was still there pushing things like having chapek reverse course on the parental rights bill.

I think Disney will always have a spot for the really little kids, but the ones I know who are 8 or older seem to prefer Universal. Beyond reaching an age where they’re ready to start taking on bigger rides, they just don’t seem to have the same level of attachment to the Disney brand that past generations did when they were young. It will be a primarily Universal vacation, with maybe a couple park hopper days at Disney IF we can fit it in. Super Nintendo World even with just Mario I think is already going to be a Harry Potter 2.0 moment for Universal; if they were to also get a Pokémon land it would be game over (pun intended).

That’s exactly what they are changing. They are exposing whole new generations of people to specific IPs that they are doubling down on which is exactly what Disney did decades ago and continues to do. Things like minions, dreamworks, back to the future, ghostbusters, Super Nintendo, Wizarding world, and more. It also bears noting that I don’t think Universal has a desire to make people cry - they’ve always been about making people be in awe - which is just a different emotion and equally as powerful.

Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite ride ever!!! Totally agree on that one. Disney is still my favorite and Epic won’t change that for me. Disney has the shows, parades, nighttime fireworks that none of the other parks can match. I let my Universal pass expire. Epic has a very limited appeal IMO. The only land I am really interested in is dark universe. I think Epic is going to hurt attendance at their own parks not Disney. Animal Kingdom expansion is coming for sure and I can’t wait for what else they have up there sleeve. No more Blue sky lol 😂

Disney definitely has the amazing shows and fireworks but even those as I counted them up surprisingly we’re not that different - hiwever one can easily argue which ones are better or more iconic and I think Disney wins that one.
