One is just for looks and he probably uses triggers for the kick instead of mics for a consistent sound.

Guys I'm sure t(he)y didn't record this one's sound, one cannot see any microphones. It seems they just play the "normal" version of the song and have him play it, so my hypothesis is that t(he)y didn't do the normal drum setup, just something quick he could play the song on. And, you can notice that not all the drumheads are from Remo, so perhaps it's not his "normal" setup. I might be wrong though. :)

+LordArthurWellesley Yep, easier to film a double pedal than a double bass. That's a small detail but it shows that Epica's Drummer really wants to show how to play it right, and makes it easy to learn. Thanks !

Love the song, but have a talk with your cameraman/editor. 180 degree rule is there for a reason and the footage is disturbing to watch. They could also have a quick refreshment of framing and composition.

the drumming isn't impressive but it's tasteful as it should be. epica is an amazing band because of the excellent composition writing, not virtuoso playing.

+Ricardo Martinez LOL, you're living in a very confined limited box I persume. I love epica's music, but their music does not showcase impressive technical drumming in the slightest. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is true. Your statement is so opinionated and false, I'm even surprised I'm acknoledging it. Listen to some progressive rock/metal drumming if you're looking for technicality. Double bass = technical? I... can't even address this absurd equation.

That depends on what you consider 'impressive'. I've jammed with some very technical, and very technical drummers that have bored me. They were clinical. It was like hearing a computer come up with patterns. Its all about the technique and flourish of the drum stick. And how their rythm flows. THAT is the impressive part of their music. His opinion isn't false. Its an opinion, whether you agree or not.
