This is why I like Ruki. She is very nuanced and complex, and the ending of her character arc was satisfying.

The way Ruki finds a sort of comfort or relief or joy in the Digimon fights, as opposed to her state of mind during her everyday life, reminds me of myself during the late 90s and early 00s, where I found solace and optimism in technology, specifically the aimed-at-the-individual, multimedia-centered, cellphone-smart-phone-personal-computer kind, while experiencing hardships, largely imposed by the times (like Ruki's problems, perhaps). I can't be the only one.

This is a good through line for the kind of hope that was instilled in modern tech during previous decades. We stacked much of our hopes and dreams on modern tech but, in the end, that mountain has come to weigh back on us. I think there was a time where we could find solace in these things, but much like any good thing, we need more and more of it in order to renew said sense of satisfaction. Richard Stivers talks about this in Technology as Magic. We've thrown so much clout into modern tech that we've now become puppets to many of our own machines. We're governed by any number of algorithms nowadays that seek to predict societal responses. Businesses plan their days, weeks, and months according to projections. I go back to Episode 21 of Digimon Adventure and remember Taichi's brief return to Odaiba. He is elated and thinks he can just forget about the Digital World, sit back, and relax. In a way, his return was like taking a break from the Digital World would be not unlike taking a break from the mental burden of keeping up with the latest iPhone upgrade, the latest console or games, Twitter feed, RU-vid notifications, etc. But, in the end, technology seeps right back in and Taichi can no longer deny himself.

Thank you, Samuel. My father before me was always first in line to own the latest VCR, stereo system, VHS camera and so on and so on, so indeed like you said this projection of hopes and dreams into technology had been going on for decades (up until 2014, maybe). I am trying to do a "Digimon Adventure episode 21" in my own life. I am sure many of us are trying. Perhaps now our hopes are projected at putting away their previous vessels.

@@palmtoptigeri9797 I stopped using Facebook quite a few years ago and haven't looked back since. Once you get that need out of your system you can try and make something useful with the time you previously spent scrolling through endless meaningless content and getting mad at things and people for no reason, and that comes from me, a master procrastinator. When Instagram and Tweeter became popular, I saw no appeal in them. That said, everything is not that simple and social media can be positive and not just time sinks, it all depends on what and who you follow. Nevertheless, there's life outside the virtual world that binds us all. This reminded me of this video by Joel Haver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y4VZnongwgo.html&ab_channel=JoelHaver This is a more recent one also about our relationship to social media: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qiTeD9yjOok.html&ab_channel=JoelHaver Wish you all the best.

I would say on some level Ruki's mother doesn't understand Ruki despite her love for her.

It took quite some time for these kids to understand that their connections to their Digimon is what separates Digimon from those who have connections with Human partners and those who don’t. While this was easy to understand for the Chosen Children of the previous seriesz Here in Tamers, due to the deconstruction of the formula of the previous series, the struggles and fears of understanding Digimon ends up leading to what would eventually be the incident with Megidramon.m 9:50 It’s a slow process, but the fact that it’s happening at all is enough.
