When seeing both sides so clearly, how do you decide which is right? Having intuition on others feelings, how do you truly know how you personally feel? How do you make declarative statements in the midst of conflict without creating more conflict? Listen in as Pastor Matt and guests unpack what it’s like to be a 9 on the Enneagram.

I can’t even believe how much I resonate with these 9s right here! It’s really hilarious to see how these personality types interact with each other too. These 9s kind of kicking back until they are really asked something. And then when they do speak it’s very large nuggets of truth that are very all encompassing. When I listen to them speak I’m blown away to hear someone else think and act and move like me. I’m super shocked by this bc I hate personality tests!

The wisdom at 46:00 about how to speak to other types on the Enneagram is an absolute gem. I am not a 9; however, I am married to one and despite not being a 9 myself, the wisdom here is helpful for all types. Thank you for what you do.

9 here, and I agree. I paused the video, grabbed a pen and paper, and wrote them down. As someone who is hesitant to tell people they might need to do something differently these sentence starters are a great way to soften the advice if I feel the recipient might take offense.

Guys, this was really great information! I admire the honesty and transparency that was displayed here. It certainly was a blessing to me as a Christ follower and a 9. I am finding that the enneagram is a wonderful tool for helping us (starting from right where we are) to become more and more like Jesus as we read & apply Scripture to our lives. Thank you all for doing this series.

9s are mediators and they need to get all the facts and see all the sides before they can make a judgment. If you want to help a 9 give them as much information as possible. Or limit their options! 😂

Just to add to the laziness part, 9s laziness could just be the lack of energy that they bring. Their energy could be being saved within and therefore they don’t bring energy to the room,or in this case, to the table, even though they speak wisdom.

LOL That's because type 9's like to let other people speak and listen before we speak - one of the few types of people that are OK with a little dead air in the conversation we don't jump into the conversation immediately and it makes other types talk more.

Yes, its just fascinating that there is so much talk about declarative statements, but then the pastor will make them for the nine's without asking them if they believe that to be true about themselves. Such great content, but as a 9- it hurts to listen to their nuggets of wisdom be looked over and them to spoken about rather than too.

That’s because the guy who isn’t a 9 is an 8. They LOVE to be heard, to be center of attention, to be the “authority” in EVERYTHING. I dated one (a very unhealthy one) for a long time. Now I can immediately spot them and, unfortunately, am repulsed by their personality.

This is classic. The 8 pastor takes charge and monopolies the conversation. He’s the expert on what it means to be a 9. The 9’s here are such good listeners. Although we all want to hear from them, not the 8, they are polite, back off and let him have center stage. Funny when the pastor tells the 9’s how they feel and how they see life.

You guys have a misunderstanding of the wings. Wings are your neighboring numbers usually with a dominant wing. So as a 2, my wings are 1 and 3, my dominant wing is 3. Now you also have a stress arrow and a development arrow. In stress I go to 8, in health I go to 4.
@andrewcramer9200
@andrewcramer9200 4 года назад
You don't understand the wings either: "It is highly likely that Riso tried to avoid the criticism that it is unlikely that people would nicely ‘fit in a box’ by pulling a switcheroo: claiming each type has a “wing” of the adjacent types. Much to my delight, this adaptation of the theory was tested by Edwards (1991) and found to be wrong. Of course, one can switcheroo ad infinitum, and that is exactly what Riso did: he later wrote that it is possible for someone to have a ‘wing’ of a non-adjacent type. Okay, so any type will do now. Right." - (Vermeren, A Skeptic's HR Dictionary, 2019). The wing theory literally failed the test. For being such an "ancient wisdom tool", it sure did need to be twisted and altered to try and make any sense (and even then it still failed miserably).

The people complaining about pastor matt talking too much for not being a nine are just ridiculous. He literally has spent YEARS studying the enneagram so he can teach about it. I am a nine myself and am learning so much from this video. But I am a 9w8 and right now my w8 is screaming at everyone that is complaining but my nine is telling me to just leave it alone. lol... being a 9w8 with an extremely high 4 is an emotional roller coaster lol.

Every time i have taken the test i have gotten 3 different answers. I thought i was a 9 but i am absolutely not passive aggressive and love deep conversation. You mentioned 9's not liking hard conversation yet a lot of them are therapists. I think this test is very helpful for the younger generation but for someone mature ( late 40's) it just doesn't work imo. When i take the test i have a very difficult time choosing the answers .Yet everyone i know (who are mostly 20 years younger is perfectly typed.) If anyone disagrees please help me figure it out. I think when you get older you balance out.
@Ehlers41
@Ehlers41 5 лет назад
Nines can make great therapists because they can see so many different sides of the issue. I would also argue that deep conversation and hard conversation can be very different. I would love to go deep with someone and get to know them way better and ask intentional questions; however, the thought of trudging through something that includes conflict and hard conversations where I know people will be upset, hurt, and angry I don't want any a part of. Also, 9's are known as the crown of the enneagram and can usually on some level identify with all other types. There is a part of us that resonates with each individual one since we sit on top, this can be great but I have heard it said that sometimes 9's will identify with everyone but other 9's. As far as not being passive aggressive, I am super passive aggressive but I think it's the overall idea - 9's struggle with anger and letting it out in a healthy way so maybe you are not passive aggressive but I would look inward and see if there are other ways that you unhealthily let out anger.

You can only be one enneagramm type. Of course you will have a little bit of others, but the intentions that move your decisions have only one root. Wings from 9 are 8 and 1. Which of both wings has more influence in your personality. The arrows are 3 and 6. They stands for growth and development. It's interesting that both man's 9 are married to 6 types.

I do identify pretty much completely with all the descriptions of a 9/1 but I feel a lot of 8 in certain situations. I also test high in 4 and 2 and in many ways I do feel like a 4/5 and less so but still a bit like a 2/1

Like A Grape Oh no, this not what I meant at all! We need to call out things as they are! Call evil for what it is and good for what it is! But it’s very important as ppl living in the west(North America) to be aware of our we tendency to say what is right and wrong form the lens/perspective of out western world instead of the lenses of those who practice it! The comment about “Africa” is one example! Africa is not a monolith but it was described as one when he mentioned/talked about albinos in “Africa”. Context matter when talking about issues particularly in the global south
@likeagrape57
@likeagrape57 5 лет назад
@@heliTg I'd agree that we do have a tendency to think of Africa as just one big country. Although I think that bad things are still bad no matter what culture is doing it. Just because a certain culture says that something is ok doesn't mean that it is. Human life should be protected in all cultures.

I dont believe you can be an 8 3 there are no lines between them on the enneagram nor are they adjacent to each other to be wings. They are frequently confused however because both are assertive types, they make things happen, they direct other people and both have lots of energy, however they have different underlying core fears, desires and motivations. This is the difficulty of learning on test results, it may not increase self knowledge which has to be grown to correctly discern the self.
